The Top 10 Worst Accents In Film

Butler uses his native accent in like every movie he is in, so what are they talking about?

I think because it's assumed that he's playing an American guy in most of these romantic comedies or action flicks. It does tend to sound like he's trying to not use the native accent in some of the roles.

He played in a movie where he used an american accent. It was bad. His accent in his new movie doesn't sound that good either.

In law abiding citizen he sounds fine to me. I was actually a tad impressed with him. The ugly truth I believe he just spoke normally. So huh maybe I just have bad ears.

I think unless you actually have the accent or a lot of experience with an accent you shouldn't be so quick to judge. I have heard so many times that Gerard Butler 'slipped' back into his Scottish accent in 300. When in my half-Scottish opinion, he was Scottish all the way through.

The article even says that Connery sounds like a haggis-eating, bagpipe-playing Highlander, when he doesn't have that type of Scottish accent at all.

Pitt makes every movie he is in worse than it could have been w/o him.

Don't want to start an opinion debate here, but Fight Club, Snatch, Inglourious Basterds, 12 Monkeys, Benjamin Button, Se7en, Meet Joe Black, Oceans Eleven and Burn After Reading are all very good films. And Pitt is great in all of them.

Pitt great in Benjamin Gump? And Benjamin Gump a very good movie..? Oh well.. where is that facepalm smilie when you need it

The worst ever didn't even make the cut.

Steve Guttenberg's Kiwi accent in Don't Tell Her Its Me.

But then it wasn't as big a film...

I don't know if it counts but my girlfriend was really pissed at Tom Hulce's American accent in "Amadeus" whereas everybody else had a refined English/European accent.

I don't really get the Forrest Gump comparisons with Ben Button. So they made another movie about a somewhat naive southerner that spans across a few eras of the 20th century. Oh, and he falls in love with his childhood sweetheart. Yeah, man. Total rip-off.

Nicolas Cage's country bumpkin southern accent in Con-Air, the movie had way over the top action scenes but everytime he talked it just threw me off.

Okay, so after reading that I had to go check it out... :woot:

To be fair, Guttenberg was playing the role of an American pretending to be a Kiwi and the whole mess was hammed up for comedic effect. I was expecting the worst and found that he actually didn't do all that bad.

For the worst Kiwi accent on film, try out this little gem. :woot:

Faaaar worse than Guttenberg's. :wow:

I'm not sure if it's an attempt an American accent or not, but every time Dolph Lundgren tries to tone down his Swedish accent, he sounds like he has a really bad sinus infection.

I always hear about worst accents in film, and yet I've never seen a list on the internet about the best accents in film.

And also I always wonder why people attempt to attack American actors on their accents. I have yet to hear about an American actor "His accent made him very convincing". Not mad, but just curious why good accents are almost never praised, especially American actors.

And it's funny because usually I hear reviewers compliment an actor's accent in a film and those same actors will often appear in a "worst accents" list somewhere on the internet.

Colin Farrel in Miami Vice! I had turn on d subtitles to understand a word he saying!
Dicaprio in Gangs of New York! I thought he was suppose to play an irish immigrant?!

Because most people feel that a non-American pulling off a competent American accent is more impressive than vice versa.
