Apparently they're going for a live action version of the animated series with some production value behind it.

I was interested when I thought it'd be a live action way over the top gory romp, like others have said finding out it's meant to be family friendly rather dampers my enthusiasm.

You know, a live action Toxic Crusaders might work. Kaufman wrote in his book, that New Line was supposed to produce a live action Toxic Crusaders movie back in 1993, but it was only a ruse New Line was using to pressure Mirage to do a 3rd TMNT film.

Ha !! I could see that. Who would play Bonehead ?

I'm picturing somebody like Johnny Knoxville?

I think the attraction will be right now that it is so different from every other superhero property out there. It's the ridiculous one and prides itself on being ridiculous, which I think will help it stand out. That's partly why I remember it from when I was kid - it was just really different from everything else. Plus, he looked cool.

As for who could headline it -- what about Jay Baruchel? I could also see Justin Long possibly (the director also did 'Accepted' with him). Somebody who can play a nerd, has great comic timing, but can also handle the action side of things, and is somewhat well known.

Ive never seen the sequels but the original is an amazing b-movie. I always wondered if the cartoon was kind of like the Robocop and Rambo cartoons, I never saw it either.
That said, I won't see a PG-13 Toxie film. It's just all kinds of wrong, just like watching an edited version of the original on cable.

I think Arnold's campiness would fit in well here. Comically it's the one superhero property in which he can camp it up.

I thought this so called news was a joke. What a horrendous idea.

Toxic Crusaders was awesome.

I really wish Arnold was playing Toxie. He kind of looks like him.

Toxic Avenger...........a film for the family...............are we talking about The Toxic Avenger full of nudity and gore?

Nope. Although they didn't explicitly state it. There's the cult film and the Crusaders which would fit with the PG-13 level thinking and superhero genre of today.

Derek Mears (F13 remake) should play Toxie. He's the right size and Toxie always reminded me of Jason anyway.

I could see that definitely working for appearance. For voice I'm seeing just the appearance changing while keeping the same actor behind the voice with alterations after the shift. Kind of like Doug Jones and Laurence Fishburne merged to create Silver Silver.

HA YEP !! I always said Toxie looks like Jason without the hockey mask. That's basically what he was, a " heroic " version of Jason.

He was Jason with proper guidance.

Apparently Arnold's character is training Toxie to use his powers for good, I like that idea.

http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/27107/schwarzenegger-in-toxic-avenger-remake

"In a surprising move, Arnold Schwarzenegger has chosen to star in a reimagining of Troma's classic 1984 low-budget horror movie "The Toxic Avenger".

The new version sees an average teen join an environmental club to impress his crush. While doing some investigating at a waste plant, he is thrown into a tub of waste and transforms into a radioactive hulking mess who fights bad guys.

Steve Pink ("Hot Tub Time Machine") directs from a script he co-wrote with Daniel C. Mitchell. Akiva Goldsman and Richard Saperstein are producing.

Schwarzenegger will play former black ops agent "The Exterminator," who trains Toxie to use his powers for good.
