So why do Americans act like Hispanics are a different race if they are Spanish thus european like alot of Americans
Because xenophobic idiots here are afraid they're losing their jobs to Mexicans and Cubans, primarily. Even though hispanics tend to do jobs that no overprivileged white person would in a million years anyway. :o

I've never really understood the difference in terminology, to be honest. I don't mean that as a slight against either, I just literally have no idea who's supposed to be called "Latin" and who's supposed to be called "hispanic" or why.

I always thought it was like calling a black person from America,African American. It's just another term for Black. A synonym.

I prefer to be called a Chocolate American.

i mean European as in caucasian

Then you mean Caucasian. European simply means people from Europe. There are plenty of black people in Britain I believe. They're Europeans too. Like American means people from America. Hell, technically you could call everybody from this side of the world American. From Argentina to Nova Scotia. But it's not a race. It's just a term to refer to people living in a particular......Region......I wanna say?

This reminds me of when I was a kid. We used to ask each other what our race/nationality/ethnicity were a lot because my town has only about 30% black & white people, and 70% a mix of different Asians, Latinos, Pacific Islanders, and just about everything else.

You learn stuff, like how to not confuse where a person's from with their race.

I once got cussed out for calling somebody Asian, cuz there's a whole mess of different races and nationalities in that area of the world, blanket terms don't fit.
