The Usual Suspects

I don't see it that way-the way I figure, pretty much everything he said was true except the names & obviously his disability.

So, if it is all true, why go through all the trouble to track down the one man who could ientify him only to give himself away at the end? He was part of a line-up in the film, so now, his fingerprints and picture are on file.

The ending was inane. There are two ways to look at the film. One, we don't believe anythign Kent/Soze said - that makes the film about nothing. two, we believe everything he said was true except the names & obviously his disability - if that is the case, he went through a lot of trouble to track down one man only to hide anyhow and give away his identity in the process.

Sorry, the ending is dumb - period. (Which stinks BTW, because the rest of the film is incredible)

I won't go as far as to echo reggie's favorite refrain of "you just don't get it", but he's correct in saying that the ending of the film ultimately negates everything cool that you'd seen previously. Keyser's story is engrossing, and thus the body of the film is as well, but when Keyser's scam is revealed, all the logic just falls apart after that one moment of "Whoa - what a twist!"

That's why The Usual Suspects is on my list of films that I'm glad I saw once, but have no desire to see again.

Sometimes, "you just don't get it" is the truth - I can't help it if most people are daft.

No kidding he wanted him to know - that is pretty stupid though since the whole rest of the film was about him hiding his identity.

get over it, the ending is inane

I think the Usual Suspects is a great film and it's one of my favorite ones.

As for the ending I think it's a pretty cool one, but it does raise alot of questions about the rest of the movie. Some of the things happened like the boat, with the guy who could identify Soze on it, exploding, but much of the rest was made up by Kint/Soze and it's not possible to know if any of it was actually true.

As for why Kint/Soze told Kujan the story my guess is that he was arrogant and wanted to play with the police before disappearing again. That Kujan learned that the story was false by looking at the board doesn't mean that he also knew that Kint was Soze. He just knew that the story was made up.
The thing that revealed that Kint was Soze was the drawing of Soze by the survivor from the boat explosion. Soze didn't know about the survivor and since he had just killed the only guy he thought could identify him, he knew that the police could never prove that he was Soze, even if they caught him again after he told the made up story.

Can't we just agree to disagree here?

So, most people who don’t have a massive ego and who go on a thread about a movie which the majority of people think has a cleaver, exciting and highly enjoyable plot goes on a complaint how they’re all daft?

Are you suggesting that Soze's not the only arrogant one?
