Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark

They were never gonna make this an R considering the books. The stories border on R but it's like an 80s PG-13.

I don’t know. Maybe an 80s PG-13. But not the PG-13 of late like Goosebumps.

Is anyone hyped about this?

Yeah this is on the A-list for this weekend. As a fan of the books I have to, even if I'd have preferred we got an anthology of the stories.

Now that you've mentioned that, yeah I would've preferred an anthology or mini-series too. I could see it as a series on Netflix, with the popularity of Stranger Things and Sabrina.

Really looking forward to this one too! I remember reading the books as a kid and being majorly creeped out by them. Those illustrations are the kind of thing you can't un-see and stick with you forever!

Yeah, but I prefer having a little bigger budget to play with as a feature. We hardly get horror that looks THIS good.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to checking this out. Loved the books as a kid.

Usually despise horror's but I have to admit im intrigued. Sounds like a reasonably fresh story for a change.

The marketing really did disappear. They should have released this right before October.

They weren't sure how it was gonna get rated and it backfired. Add to the fact like four other things are wide releasing tomorrow and it's not good.

I saw it last night. Reminded me of IT and the original Nightmare On Elm Street. But not as scary as IT. Still worth a watch because it is a good horror movie.

Saw it and enjoyed it. It definitely flirted with R. It's enjoyable, and they do not exactly white wash the time period. Would have liked one more story added, as it felt like there was a bit much in terms of down time.

Saw this and absolutely loved it. Just like the books were like a much darker, scarier alternative to Goosebumps, this felt a bit like the GB movie but much darker and scarier. It's not perfect, but I'll be damned if I didn't have a blast. The monsters were absolutely fantastic, and a couple are definitely sticking with me in a creepy way.

I have no idea what the studio was thinking trying to bury this movie the way they did, but it's going to be a Halloween viewing mainstay from this point going forward.

I knew what this was going to be when I saw GDT had written the screen story and I wasn't disappointed. Scary Stories bordered between pretty good/great. This film had good acting, good set pieces, but truly an amazing job with the monsters and the scares. The plot was so straightforward I didn't think there was room for many surprises, but I was wrong. There were a couple of surprises that caught me. Lots of humor in this too. Good laughs, good acting, good scares, just an all around fun and enjoyable teen horror that definitely flirted with a R rating. Should've went for it in my opinion, and should have also released this film in October. I think this is definitely destined to be a Halloween classic.

8/10

Not gonna lie, I am tempted to get the 3 books with the new movie covers.

Saw this last night and liked it. Almost certainly destined for similar cult status as Trick R Treat, I'd bet. There were quite a number of kids in the theater (and by kids I mean pre-teens), but my theater seemed to be mostly packed with 30-somethings (so I'm guessing that meant fans of the books like I was!). It was definitely the kind of movie that's pretty much guaranteed to give pre-teens nightmares, which I got a kick out of. ;)

The only issues I had with the movie are kinda nitpicks—I was hoping they'd do more stories from the books (1 or 2 more would've been great), and "Me Tie Doughty Walker" was kind of a let-down:

The creature's intro before falling down the chimney wasn't drawn out long enough, and the dog just barked, never responding with "Lynchy-Kinchy-Colly-Molly-Dingo-Dingo." Plus, where the heck did the dog go after the head fell down the chimney? It totally just disappeared after that happened.

I'm also one of those that would've preferred the movie going all-out with an R rating. But I'm glad that more kids will get a chance to see it in theaters and promptly get the living daylights scared out of them. Also I really hope this does well enough to get a sequel, because we all know what the sequel should be called!

Btw, this is the book set to get, if anyone is looking to buy one now:

Seems like the movie over-performed at the Box Office on Friday.

Yeah for me it’s
Harold and the Toe Lady

It’s very much in the same vein as Stranger Things and IT. I give it a solid 8/10 for a horror movie. The art direction hits it out of the park. I really hope they do a sequel and GDT or one of the Blumhouse people direct it.
