I'm REALLY loving the Venom comics. Honestly I'm a lil peeved that Steve Rogers in both Ultimate and 616 world seems to be getting the short end of the stick but honestly this comic was pretty amazing, the latest issue I mean. Anyone have any thoughts?

I like the idea of Flash getting the symbiote, but I miss Eddie Brock's villainous days as Venom I.

With this new series, for the first time since ASM #317, the symbiote actually has me wanting to read more...

:yay:

The Venom series by Rick Remender is very gripping is something I've been waiting for for a while.

All of it...I can't find a single flaw. Even the bit where it seemed to drag on between Flash and Kraven was still so enthralling.

I will read a Venom series if and when Eddie Brock is back with the symbiote.

Eh, Eddie is a pretty bland character to me. I don't get the love for the character. Im really liking this new Venom series, but I wish Tony Moore could keep a regular schedule.

Similar for me. Although, I don't think that Venom can really work as a Spider-Man in the same way as before Brand New Day thanks to the fact that not even the symbiote knows who Spider-Man is. Both Venom and Green Goblin have been compromised by that stupid retcon.

Do you mean Eddie Brock himself, or his Venom?

I disagree.

The Green Goblin has more impact nowadays than he has had since the 60's... Similarly to Venom, you can only do so many "he knows my identity... oh noes..." stories before they get boring... and we hit that storyline with Norman back in 1973 where Marvel had no choice but to kill him off (there had been 3 GG stories in 5 years where Norman would get amnesia... zzzzzzzzz), and the same thing happened with Venom where they had to move him to San Francisco... and we all know how lame Venom became during those times...

There now is an element of "them finding out" Peter's identity with Norman & Eddie that now adds a touch of suspense when they are in the books... a touch that I personally approve.

I was referring to Brock, not "Venom". I actually like Venom, cool design, but I just could care less about Brock. Im sure a writer could come along and do something great with him, (Like theyve done with Flash Thompson), but I just haven't read a story with Brock that left any kind of impression.

There's a bit more to the symbiote's intimate knowledge of Peter Parker as element, beyond simply knowing his identity. For example, this means that Venom can read Peter's playbook, know which tactics Peter will try to use to defeat him, and then take action to prevent him from doing so.

As far as Venom stalking Peter stories getting old, there's other things that you could do with him to prevent him from getting boring without breaking his character like turning him into an anti-hero did. For example, let Venom develop a grudge against someone else, and hunt them down. Or Venom just starts kicking people's asses for the hell of it. Venom is great power with NO responsibility. There's a lot you can do with that.

As for Green Goblin, in my opinion, Norman Osborn isn't Peter's archenemy without mutual knowledge of each other's secret identities.

To me, Eddie Brock works best as an antithesis of Peter Parker. Where Peter is weak (without his powers), Eddie is strong (without the symbiote). Where Peter takes responsibility for his actions, Eddie blames others.

As far as I'm concerned, the symbiote would still have intimate knowledge of how Spider-Man operates based on their intimate relationhip... the symbiote would still "know" Spider-Man... it just no longer knows his identity. The above scenario would still work... imo.

I agree.

However, that's a lot of shoulda, coulda, woulda... the development of Eddie Brock as Venom did not go that way, hence the boring Venom that followed... with the exception of ONE story where Eddie killed a nurse in the hospital during Civil War, Brock has been a very boring one-trick pony in my opinion... and his becoming Anti-Venom (lame name, btw) is the most exciting thing with Eddie Brock I've read in a looooooong time, barring a few exceptions.

Venom could have been GREAT... but Marvel decided to water hiom down instead.

And I believe that Venom kicking people's arses for the hell outta it is called Carnage. :oldrazz:

Yes, because killing your "true love" doesn't cut the mustard anymore... :whatever: :whatever: :whatever:

Not really. My question is "Who does the symbiote remember being bonded to?" Spider-Man or Peter Parker? It doesn't make sense for it to know all of his secrets...except who he is. It doesn't work as well anymore.

I agree.

The thing is, you could still do that with Eddie Brock as Venom if you brought him back. Give him a comeback, then go that way, and you can put the character back on track. Or at least, I would consider him to have returned to greatness. I don't believe it was irreversible. The character would just need a direction and stick to that direction if he were brought back.

It's not that. For me, what made their rivalry great and unique was that Green Goblin and Spider-Man had a personal connection as Harry Osborn's father and best friend, respectively, and they knew about that connection. Without that knowledge, they're just some *******s dressed up as a goblin and a spider, respectively. Now Norman Osborn doesn't know exactly why he killed his son's high school best friend. Gwen's death loses some of its significance for that reason, in my opinion.
The arch-rivalry is severely undermined by Norman forgetting.

I can agree to disagree... but remember, that knowledge still exists within Peter, and knowing how ruthless Norman is... Peter's fears about him finding out his identity still makes Norman a mighty dangerous adversary.

I know that, but it's not quite the same. There's not as much tension as when both know who the other is. And Norman can't really go after Peter's loved ones any more. Peter knows the devil that Norman really is, but Norman no longer knows who his enemy is. The personal connection works better if both parties are aware of it. This is a big part of why I found the battles between Peter Parker and Harry Osborn in Spider-Man 3 more engaging than the battles between Spider-Man and Green Goblin in Spider-Man. The lack of mutual knowledge of secret identities between Peter and Norman made me consider Venom to be Spider-Man's arch-enemy in The Spectacular Spider-Man.
Plus, some of their best moments are when they take their masks off. Spider-Man and Green Goblin are not the archenemies, Peter Parker and Norman Osborn are.

It's that important to me.

I'm loving Venom these days, and the only thing I would like to see change is have some perspective form the symbiote. It's been around for a long time. I know it doesn't talk per say, but I'd like to see more with what's going around in its mind.

GammaAzazel: #7 is quite good in my opinion, Brock and Flash have a rather good moment about the symbiote and its influence. It also sets the stage for the future of AV.

There's going to be MORE of Anti-Venom? God I hope not.

Spoilers:
Unfortunately for me, but somewhat fortunate for you, no actually. Brock appears to be the one who makes the sacrifice, but it doesn't look like he's the one to die (if anyone is to die.) Reed has been absolutely clobbered by this pandemic, and he learns of Brock having the healing touch. He later talks to him directly (nice moment for me. I never thought Reed would ever talk to Brock in a respectful manner and request aid. In the past he would have looked at him like scum.) Anyways, he says he's going to need EVERY anti-body Brock has in his suit, thus he'll no longer be able to become Anti-Venom. We haven't seen this go into action yet, but that's where things left off for Brock in this month's reads.

This fits with rumors and speculation that Brock will no longer be Anti-Venom [at least for some time] but in the mean time he'll join the book as part of Flash's supporting cast and act like a mentor. We saw hints of that in the book today during the Flash vs Brock fight. I know you're going to disagree, but I find that to be an interesting direction. Even though I liked AV, I love Brock's character first, so seeing Eddie stick around and continue to, in my opinion, grow as a person is great. He wont be web slinging, but he'll have a place to hang his hat. I just hope we see Jenna. I'm wondering how she's been. According to what I've heard here and there, she would've been in the previous ASM story if there was a bit more time, but things ended up going in a different direction.

Thank God. I hate this idea of making Eddie Brock into some sort of anti-hero. It's an idea as repugnant as doing the same with Norman Osborn or Otto Octavius. It's a direction based on missing the point Eddie Brock's character (and that of him as Venom).

Eh, agree to disagree, but then again, we've been disagreeing on that very subject all over this forum lol.

About the future issues, the Cap vs Flash issue should be interesting; the battle itself I'm curious about since I've never seen Steve fight a symby, and also, I'm really curious about Flash's mental state.

Wouldn't Venom tear Captain America to pieces?

I would think so as well but you never know.

Issue 7 was so great, I absolutely LOVED the Eddie/Flash moment. Where Eddie was informing Flash about everything, about how he thinks and what's actually happening is two completely different things and how Flash comes to realize he's right...It really was perfect. I'd hate to see Eddie lose anti-venom to be honest, he was REALLY growing on me, but I also think that Eddie is going to be an interesting support character in the Venom comics if he sticks around.

Captain America would have no chance against Venom, especially the Eddie Brock incarnation.

As for Eddie Brock and Anti-Venom, I think that Eddie Brock has been forced into a role he was never conceived for for a long time now.
