The Video Game!

The gameplay excerpts that have reached the internet look promising. I am excited about it for a few reasons: a) it is canon b) it has the film's cast c) Kirk and Spock having unique skill and weapons sets d) being able to blast the Gorn into oblivion. With that said, I am concerned about the sections where the player can pilot the Enterprise, as that option has not been executed well in the Star Trek games I have played; but, I will be open-minded.

Jonathancrane, for its time IMHO, it was executed well in 25th Anniversary and Judgement Rites.

You know, I still have most of the Star Trek games and "interactive" titles which I have accumulated on the PC over the last 20 years or so. Going back all the way to "25th Anniversary" on lots of floppy disks...

I have recently come to realise that most of them are useless with today`s Windows OS. For giggles and laughs I have been trying to get the oldest ones to run using a combination of DosBox and Virtual workstations running DOS 6.22 and Windows 98SE

So far I have managed to get 25th Anniversary, Judgement Rites and A Final Unity to work. Although they are great games, boy oh boy have they aged! Or rather, it shows just how far along PC graphics capabilities have come along.

But just so I can actually run one Star Trek game (directly) on my, reasonably decent, PC, I am pre-ordering this one for sure.
Anyway, it looks fun.

If there's an open-world/exploration element in this new game, I may be interested. Otherwise, I'm probably skipping it.

Don't think its open world. Judging by what we've seen.

Ign has about 10 minutes of gameplay. Eh does not look great. The animations are very stiff, and the graphics are subpar

When you say "subpar", by what criteria are you judging?

Trekmovie's review seems very promising. I like that the game isn't as heavily shooting based as the trailers show. I've been excited about this game for while.

Co-op mode not working for PC players. Paramount and Bandai blame Steam. But it looks as if there is already a fix as I am, right now, downloading a 2.5Gb update for it...

Sheeeesh!

I remember way back when, if an entire game filled up one CD that was good... Now we have 2.5Gb downloadable patches. Wow. Just wow.

It's okay. Perhaps I set my own personal bar too high. As Star Trek is one of my favourite things.

No more than a 5/10 from me.

My advice? Wait until it comes down in price. A Lot.

Ah brings back memories of my Star Trek Armada days. Based on what folks are saying, might wait until the price comes down before buying this.

I Gameflyed this game. Beat it as Kirk within a day or two. Sent it back. Good enough for me
