What is it?
A new 'sim' game for the xbox360 that Microsoft is already banking on to become the "next big thing".

Why should I be hyped?
Scroll down and look at those screenshots. Go out and buy Kameo or PDZ for your 360. Look at those screenshots again. Then go play Animal Crossing, and imagine that with a cooler visual flair. That's why.

How do I play it?
Before I begin, I'd like to say that I recognize how bad this genre sounds on paper, but really, you just need to play it to fully understand it. Basically, you play as...no one. You have no "character", you're simply an unseen hand moving about. If you've played Animal Crossing, you'll have a good idea of what to expect, but basically, you're goal is to build your garden to attract new pinata's and to satisfy the ever changing needs of the ones already there, all the while coming up with clever ways to keep the bad pinata's out and unwilling to come back. It could be called a "sandbox" game ala Dead Rising or Oblivion, you simply have far more control over your sandbox here.

How does this game use Xbox Live?
In addition to the usual acheivements and content download (new skins, new garden buildings/tools, new types of pinata's for you to collect/ward off, etc), the game allows people to "observe" your garden from Xbox Live, to "see what you've done with the place". However, as far as anyone outside of Rare knows, that's all they can do, look (and maybe talk if you let them), they can't touch or assist/hinder you in any way. Viva Pinata is strictly a single player only game.

What does the game look like?
Oh, ****ing fantastic, it's easily the best looking game out there. Not on 360, out there period. It has an amazing looking art style that really just makes the whole thing scream 'unique', from the grass thats made to look like paper-mache to simple things like the "hey, it's not photorealistic" color scheme, refreshing for a 360 title. Here, let me show you.

That's unbelievably pretty, no way it's real
It's Real

This looks kiddy
I guess you think it's childish to have fun? **** off and die of aids :down

I heard this was a crappy cash in on a TV show, any truth to that?
Not unless you're a total idiot. Here's the chain of events:
1) Rare comes up with, designs Viva Pinata, then shows it to Microsoft.
2) Microsoft sees a potential fad, contacts 4Kids entertainment, people responsible for turning pokemon and I think maybe yu gi oh into cults.
3) TV shows and t-shirts are put into products based on the GAME, not the other way around.

When's it come out?
Officially still slated for Christmas season '06, expect to see this delayed until sometime in the Summer of 2007.

I think this game is going to be great for what it's meant to do, but still, I fear I won't really "get it". I understand how it's supposed to be played, but... I don't get it.

Trust me, you'll like it. I've never seen a person give Animal Crossing an honest chance (ie not go in with a slew of "omg this is kiddie I'm 2 kool for dis yo!" crap) and not enjoy it, and this is Animal Crossing x100000. It's going to be a great game, you'll see.

They're making it, don't worry. They hinted at it in Ghoulies and maybe Conker as well, not sure, and the series was pretty popular AND in a genre that 360 is sorely lacking in and will continue to be lacking in for the foreseeable future, so yeah, it's coming. Don't hate Rare's other games in it's absense :(

Subtitle should be : ''Yes, Microsoft spent money on THIS.''

Should have brought out Take 2/ Rockstar, Billy boy.

Yeah, Microsoft should have funded another generic looking peice of **** shooter, right? Or maybe another generic looking peice of **** racer? The game is going to be fun. The game is also beautiful, and is by far the best looking game on the system. What else do you need? Oh....I think I know. You need blood and hookers and an M rating to enjoy games, right? "Oh, can't be seen playing anything that someone might say is kiddie, it might hurt my rep yo!"

Tasteless asshat, be gone.

Hey why don't you put on a lil skirt and make up while you are at it, lady boy? :o

What? I enjoy having fun more than just playing boring ass generic and derivative crap that others approve as "cool" and "mature" (because playing games for the sole purpose of seeing pixel **** and digital blood is the very definition of the word "mature"), and thus I...wear a "lil skirt"...put on make up...and am a "lady boy"? I'm not really sure which of your various mental short comings I should pin that logical abomination on

I'm sorry, I don't see how making lil cartoon animals, and feeding them and trying to get them mate is ''FUN'' in any way, shape or form.

If anything it shows me that Rare have pretty much always been overrated (play goldeneye again and see how generic it was).

So is this like the Sims?
In the sense that you play a "God" and control EVERYTHING and not just one character, yes, but it's still more like Animal crossing, in that your focus is on the environment the characters live in, improving it to keep them happy/to attract more of them, rather than on the characters themselves and making them happy by making them adapt to wherever they are. It's technically the same genre, yes, but they have a different focus. I actually think you might like it if you try it out, THWIP would probably have fun playing it with his wife if he tried it. Everyone just needs to get over the fact that there aren't explosions and guns in the game.

To prove Rare was overrated I should....play a first person shooter, just one of their games out of many that are held up as classics.....nearly a decade after release, taking it totally of the context of when people decided it was so good in the first place? Nearly a decade after every other game copied it's every move, making it seem generic in retro spect? Are you ******ed? Do you think LOTR is generic because it has elves and dwarves and stole that from D&D or something? I mean, wow, I don't think I've ever read a dumber post. You probably shouldn't try to share your thoughts anymore.

Play Perfect Dark and see how freaking amazing it was.

Then, play this teams previous games, Banjo Kazooie 1 and 2. Amazing games and platforming masterpieces.

Guy who has actually had sex, more than once, and left his partner more than satisfied with his mammoth, god like penis, the kind of penis that people will tell legends about in the future, who is also secure enough in his sexuality and "coolness" to say "hey, this game looks like fun, I'm going to check it out" = 'fairy queen'.

Guy who has a face full of acne, virginity, a lack of the kind of communication skills you'd expect of a prepubescent teen, and the kind of insecurity and paranoia that just screams "yeah, a guy will be fisting me in a few years" = not a, and I quote, 'fairy queen'.

Hmm...something doesn't add up here...

That actually sounds super fun.
