I mean I think it's safe to say that this holiday season is gonna be crazy in terms of consoles. PS3 slim? Woah. I know there were rumors but I didnt think they were 100% true, that it would be released this year, and that its only $299. And then if Im correct the 80GB.

I think it's actually gonna be the full swing Console War because it seems that all of the systems are gonna be on equal playing levels price wise.

I'm a Sony man at heart. I had PS, PS2, & the only things keeping me from buying a PS3 were the price & the lack of exclusive games. But now at $299 I get Blu Ray which Ive been dying for and free WiFi. The only thing that bugs me is the lack of backward compatibility. My PS2 broke a while ago and I just have these PS2 games gathering dust like Kingdom Hearts, Jak&Daxter, and I would love to play them again without having to buy a new PS2. I dont know if Im gonna buy Slim or regular. Slim has more memory, but I like the look of the regular more.

I think Xbox really is starting to fall out of favor a bit. 54% fail rate, that's terrible for a HUGE product. Everyone of my friend's Xbox has died or RROD'd, luckily my elite is fine. No big exclusive games for Microsoft this year either except Halo:ODST (Im not buying). Alot of good games that were coming out for Xbox got pushed back like Splinter Cell Conviction. SO I dont think Xbox has any kind of trump card, or at least not one they've revealed yet.

And then Wii always I think will have the younger/family audience so that's that. I dont know how much Wii will sell this holiday, probably still well, but I dont see any BIG exclusive games coming out for it except maybe New Mario Bros.

I mean the holiday season is not the end all of sales, but I think this year it will be real interesting to see.
I'm guessing it'll be 1)PS3, 2) Wii, 3) Xbox. Sony has the new hardware, Nintendo has the family sell, Microsoft has really nothing besides Halo:ODST. Overall 1)Nintendo, 2) Sony, 3)Microsoft. Nintendo has DS & Wii, Sony has PSP/3000/Go & PS3/Slim (which might factor in some way), Mircosoft has Xbox and PC gaming (which is unfortunetely not what it used to be).

What do you predict?

I think they'll all do fine. The 360 hasn't shown any sign of losing the consistant sales that it has had for a few months, the PS3 should pick up in sales due to it finally being on the cheaper side as well as early adopters of new tech with the slim, and the Wii will sell, as it always does. New Super Mario Bros I'm sure will sell fantastically, as did the previous one on DS, considering that one is still hitting the top 20 in sales and it's two years old.

The PSP Go I'm not so sure how it'll do as it's way overprices considering it's cheaper to make, heck even Sony knows the price is high, but it's that way to rip offtake advantage of early adopters.

The DS will rule the holiday as it does every year.

If all goes well all three companies will do well this holiday.

Wow, where have I been? PS3 Slim? For about as much as I got my PS2 for back in the day? Heck yes.

I love the title of this thread, the console wars have just begun? Really? Just because Sony finally decided to get on a level playing field? Sony needed to lower their prices a while ago, this move will help PS3 sales, but I doubt this Holiday season will see a huge upswing in hardware sales, I'd actually expect it to be the lowest Holiday season for hardware sales since before the 360 was released. With the current economic climate parents will be buying their kids software for the decent investment in a system they already made.

Good point, and I agree with your thoughts. The current economy will effect console sales in an interesting way, it'll be great to see just how the NPDs look.

I got the Red Ring of death two days ago, bought a new Xbox 360 and just yesterday I find out about the PS3 slim with the $299 price tag. :cmad:

Surely you can return it should you want to

Why would u do that? MS repairs the RRoD for free.

This new model and price will help Sony, but I dont quite see the negative impact it will have on the other systems

I can't believe Sony is still going to try and sell the PSPGo for $250 when the PS3 is now $299. Really Sony? There is just a 50 dollar difference between what each of them offer? What a joke.

LOL. I did not even realize that.

That is...odd. You would think Sony might have learned a thing or two about pricing given all the trouble they've had trying to sell the PS3. But supposedly the PSP Go is not aimed at the average consumer and more at the core gamer. Although I personally don't know anyone, core gamer or otherwise, who would pay that much for a handheld.

I'll get a PS3 next year. I'll wait for the price to go down more, I'm more into online gaming so I'll only play my PS3 for the single player games.

Wii and Xbox will continue to outsell PS3 Slim, due to the fact that PS3 has no good exclusives, other than inFamous. Will will continue to outsell Xbox as "casual gamers" are god damn idiots.

I could say the same about "hardcore gamers". :o

Either way, $299 is still too much for it.

whats this big moan about casual gamers. On IGN and Gamespot comments everyone always b***es about "casual gamers". What are they exactly. They seem kind of self explanatory, but there must be more to it if ppl complain about them so much

Casual gamers are idiots who only own a Wii and mostly play Wii Sports. It's rare for them to buy any new games, and when they do they are usually shovelware minigame collections. You can't blame them for their poor taste, though. They are either too short sighted or simply don't have the intellectual capacity to enjoy more cerebral games like Gears of War and Devil May Cry. Core gamers despise these casual chuds because game studios are pandering to their every whim. Dumbing down their games for them and so on.

Of course everything up to this point is a ridiculous stereotype that exists only in the nightmares of fanboys.

Real casual gamers are people who, by choice or by circumstance, simple don't have the time or the desire to become invested in the more complex games.

That's simply not ture

Umm....sorry dude, but the PS3 Slim is not backwards compatible with PS2 games :csad:

i just dont like casual gamers mainly because it gives companies more of a reason to devote more time to making crappy mini game like wii sports, wii resort sports instead of spending that money on quality games. Im worried that Natal and sonys motion stuff is just gonna end up having sony and microsoft falling into the same kind of pattern where all they make is minigame stuff.

Either way, $299 is still too much for it.

It's going to cost just as much as the Elite model for the Xbox 360 while having the same amount of hard drive space, a blu-ray player, an internal Wi-fi adapter, and internal bluetooth capabilities.

If you think that $299 is still too much for the PS3 Slim then you must be a fan of the Wii or Xbox 360 Arcade.

I've already got a 360 harddrive, so it's pointless for me to waste money on the Elite. I have no use for Blu-ray, Wi-fi, or bluetooth. Yes, I enjoy the Wii.

I am the dreaded casual gamer, fear me! :cmad:
