Theme: "You Know My Name" leaked!

Not all Bond themes mention the title in the lyrics. Remember "All Time High" from Octopussy? After all, it might be a bit difficult to take a song seriously that had the word "octopussy" in its lyrics.

taht's true. i was wondering how they would do the casino royale song, because casino royale would be hard to work in lyrically. but i think this song works in establishing a new feel and style for bond.

Hey, you know what, it isn't that bad as I thought it would be. Maybe it's because I visualize how the "main titles" will look like along with the song playing in the background. It's new and it distances itself from other Bond themes. I like it.

For what it's worth, I played around with the mixing on my media player, and was able to bring out the very quiet background orchestra. It definitely makes the song feel more Bondian - I hope when it's mixed for the film, they do the same.

Bleeeehhhh. It's not that is ****ing terrible but completely the wrong fit for James Bond. Has Portishead ever done music for James Bond?? I think they would have been perfect for a main theme.

Isn't that what people would have said about LALD when Paul McCartney turned in that wholly un-Bond-like composition? And I do think it's Bond-like in many respects - the orchestral part in the background is 100% James Bond.

I'm not a fan of the mixing, and Cornell's vocals leave me a little cold. But I'm hoping the mixing will be different in the film proper, and Cornell's vocals are hardly awful. And the song is pretty catchy.

Only because they're already Bondian-sounding. I think the problem is that the Bond music has often spent way too much time trying to recreate the "Bond sound" when it's really only creating shabby facsimiles of GOLDFINGER and THUNDERBALL. It's far better to be a little less constrained to "Bond music" and rather keeping it up to date.

I dont know **** about the past Bond stuff I just know what I am hearing now. I disagree and I think your just trying to stay positive since your a huge Bond fan it seems. Don't worry just because the opening theme is horrible to many the movie is still gonna kick ass. And I don't care what you say Portishead would sound awesome doing an opening Bond theme.

Before people start judging what is Bondian and what isn't, it's better if they know the history of the franchise, right? A Batman fan would take unkindly if somebody who had no history with the character started dictating how things should be, right?

But don't get me wrong - I'm not trying to be antagonistic or hold anything against you in your lack of knowledge. But, for your own benefit, I do suggest getting acquainted with some of the past Bond music though, since some truly terrific stuff has been turned out. For purposes of comparison to "You Know My Name" I'd suggest checking out Paul McCartney's "Live and Let Die" - not only is it one of the best Bond songs ever (as well as one of the Bond franchise's biggest hits), but it's also not very "Bondian" in nature. Neither is the megahit Bond song "Nobody Does It Better."

Well, I do try to stay positive, but I do genuinely enjoy the song, and do really appreciate it's upbeat nature as well as its desire to do something new. The point of CASINO ROYALE is to do some new things, after all - why just go for another "Goldfinger" retread for the title song?

Don't worry just because the opening theme is horrible to many the movie is still gonna kick ass.
Oh yeah. Even if I hated the title song (as I did with DIE ANOTHER DAY), I'd still say this movie is shaping up wonderfully (which is unlike DIE ANOTHER DAY).

And I don't care what you say Portishead would sound awesome doing an opening Bond theme.
Oh, it would be good, to be sure - just very cliched and predictable. There'd be nothing fresh or really surprising about it.

The trailer and song just don't hit the same area for me sorry and it seems a lot of people here agree with me. Oh well too bad. As long as the movie is still good. And Bondian??? What the ****??? lol.

What trailer and song? I haven't watched any trailer with the song attached - I've only just listened to the song alone (it's not like the song would be playing in the film itself, anyway - only during the main titles).

I just don't get the complaint that it doesn't feel like a Bond song... that was the point, I thought. CASINO ROYALE is about shaking up who Bond is, and it's fine that the title song goes along with that as well, at least IMHO. And I do think the verses feel pretty Bondian - it's the chorus that feels somewhat different (though the brass line behind it seems very evocative of Bond).

And Bondian??? What the ****??? lol.
Hey, give us fans our made up words to describe things. Every sect has 'em, you know. :oldrazz:

Sorry I just don't like it thats pretty much sums it up your not going to convert me to think differently haha.

I didn´t like it the first time around, but after a few listenings it´s grown on me.... very 80s in my mind, i love it

This song is almost as bad as DAD. Almost....

This song ain't actually too bad. Has some good sections in it.

It's grown on me a little bit. Most Bond songs I've listened to, with the exception of maybe 4 or 5, sound great without being coupled with the visuals from the movie. Once I see the movie, hear the song in the movie, and understand its tone, maybe I can appreciate it all the more.

I like the song but perhaps it doesn't fit the mood of Casino Royale.

If you think of casinos (in a Bond context) you imagine smartly dressed men, pretty women, nice decor, expensive wine at the bar etc...

I'm not sure Cornell's rock sound goes with that image. Perhaps a slower more lush sounding sound would have suited the film more?

As a song, I find it OK. I have become so accustommed to Cornell's voice paired with Morello's guitar that I automatically feel something is missing. Anyway, as a Bond song...I just don't know. I feel I have heard it out of context. It all depends how the credit sequence will be played out!......
