Title says it all...this thread is where we're gonna list things that make no sense in movies.

Why would someone not be able to swim in Waterworld?

In the movie Waterworld, Kevin Costner throws the little girl into the water and the mother screams "She can't swim"

Now maybe it's just me, but I think that pretty much everyone living on an Earth where they have to live on boats and floating complexes because the world is entirely water, would learn to swim....I see no reason not too....you think it would be something taught at a very early age, just for safety reasons.

ghost rider:

why would a knife wound show up on johnny if:

a.) he melted the knife
b.) he's a GIANT SKELETAL FLAME. no flesh, just bone and fire.

well, a lot of that movie didn't make sense

If Marty McFly travels into the future, how is he able to see his future self?

In AvP, when the Alien suddenly had a tail that was twice or 3 times as long when he impaled the Predator from the Shadows.

If Marty McFly travels into the future, how is he able to see his future self?

It's like this, even though he temporarily removed himself from the present time he ultimately would've gone back and continued on with his life, thus he would see himself in the future. Now if he went to the future and died, his future self would cease to exist because he never returned to his timeline to continue his life.

I hope that makes sense lol.

It's a fine example of the age-old "paradox scenario". One demonstration is the story of the sadistic murderer, who goes back in time to kill a young boy. Unbeknownst to him, the yooungster is in fact himself, forty years ago. Therefore, if the killer shoots the boy, how would he ever grow up to become the murderer, and in turn committ the crime? The two would cancel each other out.

and it would rip a hole in the space-time continuum...Try to imagine all life as you know it stopping instantaneously and every molecule in your body exploding at the speed of light. Total protonic reversal...in short, it would be bad.

But wouldn't his future self know that he's there? I know it's like 30 years between 1985 and 2015, but it's something that's not hard to forget.

please just stop there, we don't need to get into the workings of time travel.

but heres one where does he get all those wonderful toys?

If time travel is possible, nature would have safeguards to prevent paradoxes like this. If his present self was removed from the timeline (and put into the future), there wouldn't be a future version of his self because it isn't going to be assumed he made it back, because he hasn't yet. So no, I don't believe it would have been possible to do this.

As far as a wtf part, in Jaws when they're performing the autopsy on Chrissy, Hooper says "now this is what happens" and stops there. The scene looks out of place like it doesn't belong or wasn't finished or something.

Why can't a detective ever solve the case without first being suspended?

Where do bad guys learn to shoot? They could unload entire crates full of bullets at the green monster at Fenway, and never hit the damn thing! Yet good guys are expert marksmen.

Who in the hell finds parking that good? I've been to L.A., and you can't park directly infornt of anything!

Why do large groups of thugs always wait patiently to attack the hero one at a time? Why not just dog-pile the guys and get it over with?

Where do hero find these guns with the magic-reappearing-bullets? They never seem to need reloading. I once saw a six-shot revolver get off at least 10 shots without reloading!

And his suspension was due to his inability to follow orders from his superior and such attitude was caused by his recent divorce and/or the death of his long-time partner which drove him to alcoholism.

Such detective also has a son/daughter whom he is estranged with and who would inevitably be taken hostage by the bad guy.

The good guy, having no professional training in explosives, manage to disable a bomb one second before detonation, usually after having to choose to severe one of two wires.

The bad guy almost NEVER immediately kills the good guy upon successful apprehension.

Okay, that's bad. Alright, important safety tip. Thanks, Joker.

If the aliens in Signs were hurt by water, how could they live for even a day on Earth?
