Things You Don't Understand Thread

Smoking. At this point we all know it's a deadly habit. Causes cancer, heart disease, and a host of other problems. Yet, I see kids, (anyone under 25), lighting up every day. I just can't understand their motivation.

Yeah, but nobody thinks it's going to happen to them. They all think (myself included), that they will stop smoking young enough that they won't get the cancer or the heart disease.

Though personally, I think I have more of a problem from the copious amounts of alcohol I have drunk in my life, that I do the few cigarettes I have a week.

I really don't understand when it became for guys who are like, 20 to date girls who are about 14. Like, that just isn't cool, it doesn't look or sound good. Just... what.
Also, I really don't understand the Beatles/Nirvana hype. They were good bands, but why them, and overlook all the other good bands around that time.
Hm.

What I don't get is why the parents of the 14yos let them do it. That just blows my mind.

Granted, here in America that stuff usually just happens among the undereducated and definitively rural class.

I have to say, due to their over-saturation, I can't really stand Nirvana anymore.

The Beatles are deserving of all of their hype though. They legitimately changed rock forever.

I admit, I probably should have just highlighted the Beatles. Nirvana has grown on me though. When I was younger, I didn't get it.
I still dislike Cobain though. But that's for personal reasons.

While we're on the topic of Cobain/Nirvana.

Courtney Love? WTF? I don't even-- ah, screw it.

I dont understand why people wear those flatbilled caps and leave on the sticker. Like that makes them cooler. And then they wear the hat way up on their head.

How the hottest top-10 songs always played on the radio can be so popular? I mean I'm only 35 and I don't consider myself an old but most of these artists and songs are plain crap.

The hell with Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Kanye West, Green Day and give me some Duran Duran and Michael Jackson.

I don't understand why he seems to be the only director WB wants for every DC movie.

Huh? He's only been attached to Batman and producer (not director) on Superman.

There's Zack Snyder and Brad Peyton doing Man of Steel and Lobo.

What indeed. If you know someone who is 20 and dating a 14 year old then I suggest you contact the police. Or Chris Hansen. I believe that's called statutory rape.

Hm.

If you don't care for the Beatles or Nirvana, I suggest you improve your taste in music.

Two suggestions. You're welcome in advance.

Nah, you're old.

Once you've reached a point where you start thinking everything that was popular when you were young is better than everything that's popular now, you've reached old man status. Accept it. It will make you a lot happier.

It's actually part of a brilliant sociological tagging system. By getting those guys to wear their hats that way, it's easier to spot the *****es. Kind of like a tag on a cow's ear. You may also have noticed other *****e tags in use. Like the underwear hanging out of the pants, the wife beater tank top, ridiculous wheels on a crappy late model car, etc.

I agree. It looks so stupid.

Not to sound racist but I don't understand white peoples love of tanning especially those people who over do it to the point they have burned their skin or they are orange from being on the sunbed like that crazy New Jersey Tan mom.

I know, it just makes no sense...what do they really percieve themselves as? It also doesnt make sense that people in Africa, South East Asia, and Indian subcontinent bleach their skins and use 'skin whitening' creams.

Um, people don't tan to look like different nationalities.

Agree with CConn, lmfao. You tan so that you don't look pastey and disgusting..

Just sayin'. :P

I work at a giant bar and arcade and last night this one ghetto couple stood out to me. The guy had the super baggy pants, classy sneakers, flat billed cap, walks like he crapped his pants. Nothing out of the ordinary. His girlfriend had super tight glitter pants on, heels, big 'ol weave, a crazy amount of jewelry, and a this fashion-y looking Nirvana shirt on.

I mean, anyone could listen to anything they please, but I highly doubt that woman listens to Nirvana.

I just imagined Cobain's yelling from "You Know You're Right" and thought there was no way that woman can get into that.

I haven't worn a Nirvana shirt since high school because when I grew up they became irrelevant to me.

Are they trendy now or something? It's about their image and not their music?

I don't understand people who act oafish in public. I went bowling last night and there was a guy who every time he threw the ball he would jump straight up in the air and yell as loud as he could. He sounded like Chris Rock and acted like a caricature or a really bad stereo type. I do not understand.

I don't understand waiters that don't refill your glass of water. Dude. It's a glass of water. Fill it when it's empty. Your job is not that complicated. 10% tip for you.

I don't understand why women in the US make a big deal about PMS. When I talk to girls from other countries, they never mention it, even if they are in pain...they definitely don't have an attitude about it. Is this a cultural thing?

I don't understand why people freak out when I say I believe in God but want to go into a scientific field. It's like dividing by zero or something apparently.
