Things You Don't Understand Thread

Bitcoin and how its used to purchase items makes no sense to me. The fact someone can write a program and go "this is going to be the new world currency" I just don't understand how thats possible. What I don't understand more, are businesses that accept it.

If you go down that road you could say the same with our current currency.

The main difference here is that official currency like dollars, euros, etc are backed by a government with real assets and a proven history of reliability.

Bitcoins are something someone made up and are more like the seashell version of future digital currencies. A simplistic barter token that will be supplanted by a superior one. They are just the first step toward a more reliable and realistic one that has not yet been created.

Well yeah, Just because it's backed up by a government doesn't make it any less made up. In some out of ordinary dimension, we probably use rocks as currency. :o

At one point whether our $ or Euro is not backed anymore it used to be backed by gold and silver. It's been a long time but that's how it started. It was a note and you were able to go trade it in for precious minerals. I want to use monopoly money to buy a PS4 :o

Don't tell me, i've tried countless times. :csad:

The difference here is a government is an official entity with stock and value in it. While currency is no longer back by gold or silver, it is still backed by material value. In theory there is still gold, silver, mineral rights, property (land, buildings, material possessions of various sorts) and so on to validate the currency issued.

What does bitcoin have in value? There is nothing to possess for it. There is no government backing and no one held responsible if it fails.

***** about government all you want but at least it still has a value. Bitcoin is a digital currency with no real world assets to prop it up.

I'm talking in more of a philosophical stand point, not much so literal textbooky stand point.

They closed it? Why?

Too many fans of Bryan Singer being ******** about the accusations as if they, themselves, were accused. I don't understand those crazy X-Men fans sometimes.

There is the people cosplaying thread in the community section, and the photo album thread
You should be able to post a photo of yourself in cosplay in either one of those threads
I don't actually cosplay. I want to, but A: Haven't been able to afford it. B:Can't decide who to be C: Afraid of Mister Winky showing up in spandex.

I was just making a joke.:oldrazz:

I have no idea why I quoted you...

I don't understand the hate for Joe Besser. Granted he was no Curly or Shemp but he did his best when he became part of the Three Stooges with what they gave him.

Mr. Winky can be held in check with a good pair of compression shorts or a dance belt worn underneath the spandex... :woot:

You have your right to fear
You can cosplay wearing something less sticky to your skin, dress like Zorro
He does not wear tights

One I started noticing that I had never paid attention to before is people hanging out at gas stations. Of all places to hang out with, why hang out outside a gas station when it is hot and humid. What is the point of getting drenched in sweat, smelling like sun and hanging out at a gas station?

I've noticed the same thing in lower income neighborhoods where people hang out outside their homes like on the porch or backyard even in warm weather. If it is cool outside, I understand that. But when it is 80+/90+ degrees, why would you go sit outside when it is probably much nicer and cooler inside your home?

As far as internet trends, I also don't understand the trend of using memes and gifs and how people find them that quickly or if they make them. I don't even know how they get a gif from a movie and add a caption or why.

Well, I bet he knew what he was getting into regarding the Three Stooges act & style of comedy. If he knew it was slapstick & physical comedy, he shouldn't have signed to do it. Anyway, he's the least funny Stooge, followed by DeRita for me.

I don't understand how Honey Boo Boo and her family are famous and some people actually like them.

They are the most grotesque worst displays of human life I've ever seen. It makes me angry just thinking about it.

As for Honey Boo Boo and Co. I'd assume that the idea is "Look at these freaks. They make me feel better about me since I'm not them." and that they're profiting off of that. I imagine they get quite a bit of money that they wouldn't otherwise just to do their thing and act like idiots on occasion. It's not a bad living.

agreed it seems each fandom on here wants to out to do the other when it comes to crazy

as for the cosplay debate i'm on the other side of it, i would never cosplay dont have the confidence for it or body but i'd love to do a photography shoot with some serious cosplayers unfortunately its not that big a thing over here

I agree with Nick about Honey BooBoo, and reality TV in general is pretty awful. Honey BooBoo and the late, unlamented Jersey Shore each displayed the worst of rural and urban America respectively.
