LORD OF THE RINGS: A real good look at Legolas (aka Orlando Bloom)

An open letter to Peter Jackson

Give up. Seriously. Pack it in, fire the actors and tear up the script. Throw away all the art work and pretend like you never started on this insane venture. No matter what you do, this movie will never work. Think about all the time you spent casting. The hundreds of actors you tested and retested. The number of head-shots and videos you had to review. And after it all, what was your reward?

Do. Not. Trust. Them.

We are talking about the AICN Talkback guys. Quality posters in there are a rarity.

True, but my goodness hindsight is too funny. You should of seen the Batman Begins 2003 threads, especially when [ironically] Heath Ledger was rumored to play Batman.

I actually did breeze through the Batman boards during that point in time and I can remember questioning the casting in my head myself. But a small part of me just told myself to wait and see how it would turn out in the end. It was a mixed blessing that Heath was so good as the Joker, but tragic he never lived to see the accolades for his performance.

That said if I know a movie will suck, I will tear it a new hole like nobody's business, like Michael Bay's movie scurrilously tagged with the name Transformers.

At this point, I just don't care

Too many rumors. Too many still-born plots. Too many flavor of the month casting trial balloons.

Keep hoping

But it's not gonna happen. Heath Ledger has the jaw and probably the guts for it, but I still don't think that Warners are gonna risk a big marketable franchise on anything half as dark as the fanboys want. Having said that, Year One is slightly more possible than, say, Dark Knight Returns, but I'd imagine that golden boy was discussing one of the many other possibilities mentioned.

Who could be a better choice than Heath Ledger?

Christian Bale. Jim Caviezel. Billy Crudup. Wes Bentley. Anyone with more than one expression.

why is heath ledger a good idea again?

Does it concern anyone else that the guy is skinny as a rail? And that he's been quoted as saying that he "hates going to the gym." Sure, Micheal Keaton wasn't too muscular either, but at least he could play psycho and had those weird quirks. I can't imagine Ledger bringing anything to this role at all, except screaming teenage girls. Also, does anyone know if he's even able to speak without the accent? It would be pretty weird to hear Batman speaking as if he came from down under. I really think this is just a case of one person seeing two people having lunch, or just bumping into each other, and someone trying to make something out of it.

FOR GODS SAKES, WHY START AT THE BEGINNING????

Batman I, and Batman Returns were excellent. Batman FOrever was pretty good, aside from the cheesy one-liners. So Batman and Robin sucked. BIG DEAL. Why does that mean we have to write off the first three?? For God's sakes lets drop this "back to the start" origion story YEAR ONE ********. Just do a good BATMAN story. We don't need continuity reset back to square one. Pick it up a year or so after Batman and Robin, have Robin leave to go to Bloodhaven in the opening scene and just make a dark movie with Batman (and no sidekick) vs. ONE villian. Continuity revamps are a stupid gimmick. Just tell a good story.

The horror..the horror

Heath as Batman? Can the guy carry a movie? Isn't he on a roll of box office duds to rival Charlize Theron? Hasn't proved himself as an actor either. Definately needs some maturing, but at least Nolan and Goyer are top drawer talent behind the camera. Now if only Warners could get that kinda batting line up for Superman...

I second the first poster

who cares? It won't happen, and even if it did, it'll disappoint, just like Spider-Man, X-Men, etc...

End the pain and suffering WB.

Theres no need for another Batman film.

seriously, what do these people SEE in Heath Ledger??

I mean, "10 Things I Hate About You??" Followed by "The Patriot, "which had all the dramatic subtlety of an atomic bomb (oh, I know what will make this really deep!! Let's kill somebody in every scene!!) and was but a desperate attempt at integrity by Emmerich and Devlin. Then stupid wannabe excuse for a star vehicle Knight's Tale, then the Four Feathers, a dated, miscast ****ing story which added little to the original and deservedly flopped hard at the box office. Shows just how much we really care about ol' Heath. That guy's only legacy was ****ing both Heather Graham and Naomi Watts. Please. Cast Bale. Cast Bentley. Either of them will have the talent, the integrity, the fanboy faith so lacking in that schmuck Ledger.

new batman movie

why in the hell r they going back to year 1? I blame smallville for this. We know the story. Just give us a real good batman movie. Frankie Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns" might make a hellava good movie. They cant seem to get the DC comics right on film. Well the first batman movie was great, and the second was good. But they got away from what made those first 2 movies good. Bring back Keaton or cast someone similar and make a dark movie. Don't cast some flavor of the month actor in a year 1 movie.

Come on now, you've gotta show the real meat of those AICN Talkback boards by displaying the rampantly confusing, unintelligent, poorly spelled, grammatically horrifying posts.

Hey, I (used to) post in the AICN talkbacks :o

This was pretty much what I thought. All the fanboy love for Ledger and the whole "he's the james dean of our generation" is just because of the Joker role. Nobody really cared for him before TDK. Don't get me wrong, I thought he did fantastic as the Joker, but this just shows that the fanboy love has been pretty much fake this entire time.

Do we have any flipside versions of this of a really strong following for a crap film...

That site is crap anyway. I don't see how they get news and interviews and such. I thought you had to be professional to get a press kit. :whatever:

i was actually going to put at the end

'oh wait, i could just look in the spidey 3 boards'

but i thought i would be flaming...

Nope, just a sad truth. That film had a massive following before its release, with many saying it would be almost Godlike. A very obvious display on how fan predictions can be VERY wrong.

but it could have been godlike eggy, it could have been godlike...

*sniff*

:(

Someone should track down -and post- all these wrong predictions :hehe: it'd make a fun little thread.. maybe.

I know. Wouldas, couldas, shouldas :csad:

I just wish they could have treated Venom with just a bit more respect instead of just shoehorning him in like they did. Proof positive that producers shouldn't be trying to compromise a director's intentions for the film. They should just stick with all the behind the scenes production stuff as the name producer implies.

But can you blame people for thinking Spidey 3 would be great? After the awesomeness of Spidey 2, pretty much everyone thought the third movie would top it. I hope the Batman franchise doesn't fall victim to the same fate.

Not at all - I had high hopes too.

No...it seems you just have to kiss the right butts....and Harry Knowles has done that....it's also about longevity, they've managed to survive for a fairly long time, so people consider them reputable
