The Amazing Spider-Man This movie is in high school!!!

I would much rather see the story from college years, it could be a reboot that flashes back on his origin in short while moving right along. I enjoy the idea of Gwen Stacy instead of Mary Jane because thats the Spidey I read growing up. Even after Gwen is gone and he eventually ends up with MJ, his love for Gwen haunts him. Hell I'm all for Black Cat showing up somewhere in one of these new Spidey films.

See, even if the film is set in HS, Garfield can still pass for a HS without the GA being none the wiser. The only people that have a problem with it are the fans keeping a microscopic eye on the film's production. However, it does make more sense to set the story with him in college, it makes things more interesting, especially with regards to his personal relationships amongst many other things.

I am confused...I could have sworn you thought Tobey looked way too old to be playing a college kid. Oh wait, you did.
He does look too old. Garfield does not. I think he could pass for a senior in high school as well.

Yahoo Serious is the name of that guy who played the young Einstein in Young Einstein.

Cast your mind back to high school, there were always a couple of guys who looked like they were already in their twenties, the guys who were the first ones who wanted everyone to compare dick sizes in the changing rooms because they already had things going on downstairs that were of a Hulkian werewolf variety, they were a few inches and bushes ahead of the rest of us.
Garfield could be one of those guys.

WTF?

Yahoo Movies are known for being "in the know" and according to them, this movie will in fact be in high school like they've been saying all along!

In you're face nay-sayers! :oldrazz:

Thank you so much for posting what we already knew from the very start and treating it as breaking news :whatever:

In related news, Heath Ledger has been cast as The Joker in the highly anticipated sequel to Batman Begins. Can't wait!

They don't give out awards for being a jerk. But nice try.

I never paid attention to the other guys in the locker room. You weren't supposed to either

If this is high school again I'm out. Seriously, they gave us the exact same timeline the last trilogy. They even had A-list villains. Now I'm gonna have to see that all over again with some new names and faces and second tier villains in all likelyhood? FAIL... :whatever:

^this

If Peter starts out as a HS senior again ( which is about the "youngest" Garfield could pass for ), then.....well..........that's pretty much the same thing they did with the last Spidey movies. I don't want to see that again, either.

If they try to pass Garfield off as a 15-16 year old freshman/sophomore....well....then I'm not buying that either....

It can only be in High School or College, how is it a FAIL in either case, both consist of who Peter Parker is in the comics?

And who cares if YOU buy it or not, 95% of the people going to see the film won't give a damn one way or the other. Age is just something that few people think about in entertainment. If they did, GREASE, Dawson's Creek, Spider-Man films, Beverly Hills 90210, Alice In Wonderland, etc. wouldn't be hits. What does all of these properties have in common, older than they should be actors and they're all MASSIVE HITS in their various medium.

No one cares, but a select few.

One of the problems with the last series was that they took Peter out of High School way too soon. He graduates halfway through the very first movie to be exact, which was kinda dumb. Peter should have been in high school for the first two movies, and then college by the third.
This reboot will put Parker back in high school, where he belongs.

Are we certain of this?

Although, Sony hasn't said otherwise. I actually believe they intentionally was looking for an older guy to play a high school student.

Garfield still looks like he could be 20-22.

Yes, NOW, but what about when he's 30 and shooting the sequel? He isn't gonna be youthful forever. This is a franchise. You have to think long-term. He looks great now, but just wait till we get to part 3.

They were pretty loud and brash, so paying attention was not really required.
Anyway, there were guys who looked in their 20s in high school, so we can suspend the disbelief for Garfield in a hs movie.
I am not bothered either way, hs or college, I just want a good Spider-man movie, and for the guy to be comfortable in the role.

Mike: Don't worry about it, in fact don't even think about that previous post anymore. Those guys are all gone out of our lifes now, and hopefully they all look in their sixties now they are in their thirties.

Yes, there's early bloomers in HS, but doesn't that go against the Peter Parker persona? Isn't he supposed to be the weak geeky kid who gets picked on all the time? So, how are audiences supposed to believe that when he looks older and taller than everyone else? Atleast Tobey Maguire was short and had a dorky face.

I do think Andrew Garfield looks too old for High School, or especially to stay there.

I think it would be much more interesting if we started in college since that's where he meets Gwen Stacy anyway.

He could play a 19/ 20 year old who has already been Spider-Man for a while so we jump straight into the action.

Tbh, I don't think we need the origin story with Uncle Ben dying and hearing the 'great power comes with great responsibilty' thing because we already know that and we saw the whole thing in 2002.

I think they should start like the 90's animated series with Spider-Man already been established for x number of years and maybe have Peter recall what happened to his uncle through commentary.

I've already seen his Uncle Ben die, I don't need to see it AGAIN.

So I hope they stick to college setting for the next 3 films.

Did you hate the comics or something?
He doesn't need to be in high school for it to be a good Spidey movie. And Andrew Garfield is 27 and I think it'd be stupid to see him play a high schooler. (I look back at Raimi's first movie and Tobey didn't even look like a high schooler).

I don't want a lame high school story or any thing like that. If he's in college, he has more things to juggle with being Spidey and dealing with the real world as Peter Parker. And that lame crying at the pay phone stuff we saw in Raimi's movies.

Because they're a news site. They don't pick up on rumors, they only give actual news and confirmed details.

That doesn't mean they're "in the know" when it comes to movies.

If you want an example of a journalist who's in the know, look at Nikki Finke.

Here is a fun fact, Garfield playing a 22 year old in 2007 in Boy A when he was around 24... now playing a 18-22 year old between 2012-2017. It's going to be pretty comical, especially when we end up with something not much better than Tobey. Yet they are looking at actual 20 year old love interest to retain that youthful beauty... like Kirsten was back in the day. I like the double standard. Amazing how these actresses cope with intimate scenes with actors with almost a decade on them. All part of the job I get it; just has to be difficult I would think. Then again, maybe it is easier knowing a 29 year old actor isn't going to get off on a make out scene the same way a 19-20 year old Josh Hutcherson type actor would.
