This movie was over before it got started

OK so I just found out this is going to be a reboot right? This is ****ing ridiculous, the movie came out in '04 so there's no ****ing reason to reboot the series.

It's not like with the hulk where the original sucks so hard you just need to start over. There's no damn excuse for this.

Abort this film before we're forced to give birth to it in a bathroom stall. :

Yes. This film is doomed because it has no connection to a 2004 film that wasn't even that great to begin with.

Listen, I liked Thomas Jane, and I (kind of) enjoyed Jonathon Hensleigh's take on the mythology, but the Punisher is bigger than both of them. It wasn't even like they completely hit the nail on the head with that film or anything either. Sure, they did a bunch of stuff right, but they also did a hell of a lot wrong, and it's stupid to think that this movie won't be any good just because it isn't connected to that. Did you cry this much when you found out Batman Begins would have nothing to do with the Burton films? Let the past go an move on, not only will you be doing yourself a favour, but we'll all be relieved that we don't have to listen to the whining anymore.

Are you kidding? The type of movie-goer who would enjoy a Punisher flick in the first place isnt stuck up enough to scoff at a reboot even if it is 3 years later. People will see the trailer and if its kick ass people are gonna say "Holy crap, that looks kickass I'm gonna see it" regardless of the Thomas Jane version (which, im sorry to burst your bubble about but wasnt NEARLY the definitive Punisher film or even that entertaining for that matter).

If the trailers suck they're gonna say "why they hell did they re-make that crap?". The Punisher is one of those properties that is supposed to be a concentrated shot of badassness (making up words) and as long as this movie looks like its gonna be that people are going to flock to it regardless (lets hope it does right by the character for once).

This reboot is necessary. '04 sucked HARD. It's also a sequel combo, so it's not there not retelling the orgin with a faithful adaptation of YEAR ONE or anything. Though I wouldn't mind that either.

Actually the 2004 movie is the definitive Punisher movie for now because it's so much better that the 89 Lundgren one. I don't understand why it needs to be a reboot all over again. Just don't mention the first one much and go right into the action. If I see his family getting killed all over again I'm going to flip out. I won't mind a flashback though.

I think both the Jane and Dolph films had good and bad stuff going for them.
I'm glad this is getting a reboot cause the last film was nothing special and this new guy looks 100X more like Frank Castle.

Aaaaaaaanyway...I don't see what the fuss is all about, because this isn't going to be a reboot. Maybe a mild rehash...but emphasis on the mild. What it'll be is a sequel that doesnt' acknowledge the first movie at all, except maybe flashbacks of the origin.

I don't think the studio would make the mistake of doing ANOTHER origin movie. That would be a really dumb move on their part. Not to mention, from what we've heard, Frank is on the run from the cops and stuff. So, it'll be a "sequel" per se, without really acknowledging the other film.

I love the 04 Punisher, but I still think this is a smart move, especially since they are recasting.

Now this may be a quite a shock for some of you who may happen to be ******s, but SHH isn't the only place on the net (or real life) for fans to discuss Punisher related topics. Nor even the best.

That's what a "reboot" is. It creates it's own internal continuity without acknowledging what came before. "Reboot" does not mean a redoing of the orgin. If there are any flashbacks in this movie, they will be new scenes with STEVENSON, which means you wouldn't have needed to see the first film to understand or appreciate this one. By starting off with Castle as the Punisher and providing scenes that tell you why Castle does what he does, this could have easily taken place of the '04 turd.
