I think that the tone of TFA:CA is what will really hurt it unfortunately.

Actually,other things worry me more.The director and chris evans,for example.

This is a Thor thread, lets talk about that crappy (looking) movie. Good for you that you hate the hugely successful and well recieved (atleast the first two are) Spider-Man movies. I hate Kick-Ass, The Harry Potter franchise, Transformers 1 and 2, Superman Returns, Batman Returns, and lots of other flicks. I hate lots of movies and think that lots of other films are overrated...so what?

Does S.A.D.D have another account?

No offense, just a friendly head's up, judging from your tone, you're starting to sound a tad trolly too. I just think everyone should calm down and refocus on Thor.

Captain America is just being released on the worst possible release date. Ugh.

Thor has the start of the summer with relatively no competititon. Good slot.

I love how this is labeled as a Teaser Trailer and "there's more to come!" but GL's teaser/trailer is considered a full trailer and the movie is doomed, even though we have seen about one construct and Thor's trailer is actually longer than GL's.

Anyway, I saw the Thor trailer again recently and I'm still not impressed with it. There's some cool stuff here and there but I guess it doesn't look that good to me. I didn't get a "wow" from it. I did like the final shot with Thor coming at the camera, and that money shot where he destroys the ground. I'm sure the movie will be cool but the trailer wasn't anything great.

I guess peaople only labeled it as teaser because it's the 1st one we've got.
Both(Thor and GL) should be considered trailers though.

The story itself looks to be the standard superhero movie fare, I wanted something more complex. I don't know how will this movie do at box office, In my opinion, Cap America has a better chance of becoming a financial success.
Cap will need a strong opening weekend.
It opens the weekend following the LAST POTTER MOVIE EVER.
The weekend after is Cowboys&Aliens which is tracking good wom off the first teaser trailer.

I'm most concerned about Cap finding its audience cause the audience may be distracted come that point during the summer.

Actually kind of the opposite Thor has Pirates 4, Hangover II, and Kung Fu Panda 2 in the few weeks after it

All Cap has is Cowboys and and yes HP before hand. But having something come out in front is better than right after

Neither are really ideal spots, but Cap's is slightly better I think

Agreed.CA will have a hard time...

Thor,by the time Pirates comes out(two weeks later),will have made money.

When people respond harshly to me I respond in kind.

Not when that movie is Potter. That movie will have a huge $100m+ opening weekend. Even if it loses 55-60% of audience share that next weekend when Captain America opens that is still $40m+ of tickets not potentially bought for Cap.
Then Cowboys opens and if that takes off, cause Cap will lose a similar % , then it could be trouble for Cap's haul.

Thor opens summer. The next 'big' summer movie, Cars 2, opens 2 weeks later. Then Pirates which is 3 weeks removed.

Thor= sitting good
Cap= shaky ground

Ha, true. I remember when everyone in the Cap casting thread was blowing a blood vessel, doubting the makers, trashing them, arguing with each other.. then I looked at one of these threads and everyone was so chill about this thing getting made. Nobody seemed to mind that we hadn't seen the star's acting skills really flexed in a movie or show before, nobody was worried or infuriated about the lack of Don Blake, *****ing about the tiny details of the costume... it's a pretty amazing feat. Thor fans seem to get it, I guess. That or they're just happy to be getting a Thor movie :oldrazz:

heh do you know how long we've waited for this? lol

Typically the trailer is the best part of most films these days. If the trailer sucks then there isn't much hope for the film.

Just my two cents, but I think the film looks fantastic in the trailer. Not sure why some people here are having such a "meh" reaction to it... I wonder sometimes what people expect out of a two-minute trailer. I don't even know Thor that well, and seeing that trailer pretty much sold the opening day ticket for me.

But then, what do I know? I liked the GL trailer too. I'll admit this one was better, but I'm pumped for both films.

Um...not the opposite? If you're familiar with box office image, first two weekends are what counts. How you open and what'd percentage did you drop second weekend. By the time Pirates comes out, Thor will have had its time. Most movies--even Inception--enjoy three weekends of plundering at best. Hangover II isn't really even a consideration either for this market.

"yes, HP" before hand. Harry Potter is the final movie in the series, the last movie of which earned 125 million in 3 days. That's insane. Couple this with speciality screening of Part I and Part II back-to-back, individuals who will wait until the second weekend to avoid crowds, and Cap will have some serious competition come its opening weekend. Anybody who works intelligently in the industry will tell you this. Plus, on a foreign side, audiences are going to be much more interested in seeing Harry Potter than Captain America, just due to current geopolitical reasons.

Cowboys & Aliens is the same ComicCon demographic as Captain America, and with names like Jon Favreau, Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, and yes even Damon Lindelof (for all the Lost fanboys and girls), that's a powerful film combination that could pose some serious competition. Plus, and it not being technically a superhero film (although a graphic novel) could aid it in a summer packed to the brim with comic book movies. However, the one saving hope for Cap is that Cowboys may need another weekend to garner good word of mouth due to its lack of recognizability. This could change though with an aggressive marketing campaign that pushes the film's stronger market selling points like star and creative bankability--as well as just seducing trailers like its teaser.

I love Captain America. I worked on the film. However, its release date is an extremely tough one, sandwiched between two heavy hitters like that. And honestly, it's quite possible that Harry Potter may just own the entire month of July.

Thank you, smart person.

Great trailer, really looking forward to this. Have a lot of faith in Branagh to deliver the goods.
