Three Statements on DC comics.

And that's very true. And you're right, that gym scene was great. It's nice to see characters like Citizen Steel and Damage able to sit back and relax and not be 100% angst. It's amazing to think how great of a series it would be just to have them sit around on the couch the whole time and just talk. A JSA Headquarters building, where the focus is on characters, not plot and action.

That's what I was telling ShadowBoxing the other day. This series has some great moments, very reminiscent of the old X-men books. (you know, back when they had Bar-B-Q's and ball games and acted like a family?)

I'm looking forward to learning more about the characters. I'll tell you, one of my favorite issues so far was the Liberty Belle issue. I loved seeing how Jesse thinks, and learning more about her relationship with Rick. (I'm a sucker for married couples, but especially SUPERmarried couples!)
It's just nice to see someone who is HAPPY in a marriage. For once...
Other than Lois and Clark I mean.

And the mentor relationship Jesse and Rick have taken with Grant. I really like that as well. They've kinda taken him under their wings and helped him get acclimated, I was a big fan of that move.

Basically the same three things I always say.

1. Superman should be a socialist

2. Wonder Woman should fight for feminism

3. Batman should beat up muggers

In the realm of less totally not ever gonna happen

1. Retcon the stupid "***** done gone crazy" stories (and I mean actually they-never-happened retcon, not any "I was drugged" horse****)

2. Make the Justice League go back to doing cool stuff that doesn't bore the **** out of me

3. Bring back Superboy, then have him throw Supergirl, Superboy Prime and that ****in' son of Zod I keep hearing about into a black hole or atom smasher or the End of Time or somewhere.

Over the weekend at the Comic shop,... It kinda rolled around to:

If you could make one statement about Each major comic company in regards to stories,... what would they be?

I was surprised at how many THINKERS I had buying books.

(You get into an arguement with a a Marvel fan over the color of Mary Marvels Socks and get back to me on how intelligent you think sumbody is,...)

Anyway,.. I think it would be interesting so I brought it here and Tripled it.

I'll Start.

1. I would buy and read monthly a Nightwing and Robin comic.

2. I would like Senior Superman to stay.

3. I want another Speester in the DC Universe.

V.

1. No comment
2. Agreed, too bad he's dead :(
3. Me too, bring back Barry!!

Different Old Superman Sparta*. Check your facts.

1. Bring back the connectivity between characters. The relationships and connection and ties between characters was always, always the strongest point of DC. Like people just said here, it used to be that you could ask Wonder Girl what she thought of Ted Grant and you could get a pretty concise, specific answer. Friends, enemies, lovers, brothers, mentors, students, etc etc etc etc etc etc, it was all so vivid and engaging. Nowadays, we have old friends never speaking to each other, new relationships that feel forced and unnatural, and it's becoming more and more common for a reader to say "Hey waitaminute, that's not the way that [insert character] should be acting around [insert other character]."

The thing is that you can't force it. The cohesion and relationships of the characters was something that evolved organically over time. It was something so fragile and therefore so interesting, and so much of it had been bulldozed over by the regime. Things that shouldn't have changed have been changed. You can't forget how characters are supposed to react to other characters. This used to be so strong, so powerful in the DCU, you could literally feel it.

And now? It's just not. And we're all the worser for it.

2. Stop abusing younger characters. I'm not talking about drama, I'm talking about abuse. It was never interesting, it never worked, no one ever liked it, and the results speak for themselves. Robin should not be darker than Batman.

3. Justice League of America needs to be a lot more fcking focused. JLA is the heart of the DCU. When it flounders, the DCU itself feels week, even if that may not literally be the proven case. And right now? The book is floundering. The book itself has very, very high standards set by a line of excellent writers. There is no excuse for the state that it's in right now.

1. I want a writer on Nightwing who is better than mediocre.

2. I want Kingdom Come Superman gone right now and for DC to forget Kingdom Come ever happened.

3. I want Wally's kids erased from continuity.

4. I want Hal dead.

This is gonna be a pretty hard year for you, isn't it, Leaguer?

Funny enough, I began hating the fact that Johns brought in KC Supes or Earth-22 Superman to JSA, but it's been fantastic so far.

He's handled it pretty well, I agree, but I still would have preferred him to just leave well enough alone and keep KC Superman on Earth-22.

Why do you want Supes as a socialist?
I thought WW has always fought for the "common sense" level of Feminism,... You want her Rabid instead like what the worst feminist foam at the mouth at?
And,... Batman already beats up Muggers.

And it ain't no worserest if it ain't as worcester as the worstestism.

Yeah, that behavior's pretty much universally condemned as child abuse.

1. I too would like to see figures like Batman and Robin actually working together more, whether it be a new title, or in both of their own titles. After all, Robin is his side-kick...only on the weekends would it make sense for them to not see a glimpse of each other due to the Teen Titans. One of the things I loved about Hawkman was just how much you did see Hawkgirl in it. I think they did an awesome job giving both the title holder and his "side-kick" figure attention.

2. I'd like them to cease making so many damn Batman or Superman themed/based appearances in the media. This is coming from a life-long fan of one of those two characters, and yet I'm sick of it. I'd love for a new animated series, or film, where they are not in it. And I'd like them to go the route of Marvel Studios, by taking some risks making films for characters less known than their most known characters. There are so many awesome ideas for animated shows/films or live action films: JSA, Flash, Green Lantern, Birds of Prey, Aquaman, Green Arrow...

3. I want them to bring back Aquaman in the majestic and mystical way Tad Williams was trying to set up. It seemed like it wouldn't be one of those "cliched" comicbook resurrections. Then, I'd like either Johns (who showed great interest, so I doubt he would do anything bad to the character), Morrison (he made Aquaman respectable for a large audience in his JLA run), or some other writer who can portray him as he should be. For art, I'd love Alan Davis (those covers he did for the Sub Diego art were gorgeous), Jim Lee (I just really liked those few appearances he drew of Aquaman in that Superman story), that artist who worked on SCW with Johns (Evan something, I forget, but mainly because they are already used to working with each other, and well), Jose Luis (I've seen little of his work, but the three or so Aquaman sketches I've seen have been amazing).

I thought about all of you this weekend (No off color comments plz):

1. Bring back the connectivity between characters. The relationships and connection and ties between characters was always, always the strongest point of DC. I think this is the third time this week where you said something I've been thinking for a bit,.. thank you.

I think one exception would be Green Arrows comic which ADDRESSED the Batgirl flip and while not resolving it, it was a step toward getting back to that era of characters knowing each other.

2. Stop abusing younger characters. I'm not talking about drama, I'm talking about abuse. It was never interesting, it never worked, no one ever liked it, and the results speak for themselves. Robin should not be darker than Batman.
Or when it gets that ugly,.. IMHO Batman should've stepped in and started smacking folk around.
I agree and blaim it on editorial control.

1. I want a writer on Nightwing who is better than mediocre.
? It's been better? I've enjoyed the last two issues?
2. I want Kingdom Come Superman gone right now and for DC to forget Kingdom Come ever happened.
I thought it was a nice touch (His arrival) that could only get better is if Grouchy Old Batman and Hot MILF Wonderwoman come looking for him.
3. I want Wally's kids erased from continuity.

4. I want Hal dead.
??? I want his kids either depowered/cured or given the current standard DC Speedster abilities.

Hal? He's been there,... Done that. Let me see if DC can really float him and Johnm Stewart operating at the same time. Prior to this current one - one or the other was out.

Like I said in a similar way earlier - I would really expect Batman to keep closer ties on what's going on with Robin with the taken option to step in and whoop on some of these hard cases that have almost killed him in the last twenty issues or so.
2. I'd like them to cease making so many damn Batman or Superman themed/based appearances in the media. This is coming from a life-long fan of one of those two characters, and yet I'm sick of it. I've not bought an Aquaman comic in years,.... I guess like about twenty or so characters that I've dropped in the last two decades,.. I'm waiting to hear about real improvement.

I see. Well, I'd rather have a title than no title, so I try to support the character no matter what. Was I crazy about Aquanewb for example? No. But I didn't hate the guy and wish he would die. But Tad looked like he was onto something before the rabid fanboys caused the plug to be pulled before he could finish his work.

No heat - I can respect a fan fav like Aquaman having loyal readers,... I'm just budgeting my ducets.
