OK, let me start by saying WOW...I used to absolutely love this and still do, its such a great song and video, and the best part about it is that its such a happy-themed song/video for the meaning of all of it--someone's probably going to die. I used to be a die-hard Michael Jackson fan and I can still listen to some of his music and watch their videos (particularly this, "Beat It", and "Billie Jean")...but I wanted to get the general opinion on what you think of this song and music video. It is no doubt one of the most, if not THE most, popular videos of all time...and I find myself wanting to dance everytime I hear the song. So, just tell me what you think...

And for the VERY few who haven't seen it, here you go:

BTW, I don't think this needs to be part of the 'Music Video thread'...only because it is not JUST a music video, its much more. But if you want to move it there, thats fine.

and who doesn't know the dance steps? or at least partially.

It's way too cheezy to arouse that kind of passion in me.
At least Beat It has a wicked EVH solo.
Billie Jean kicks Thriller's ass, hard.

The cheese factor is what is also great about it for me...when you watch it, ask yourself "What the hell would I do if I saw a whole load of dancing zombies?!"

Billie Jean is great, but Thriller is a bit more exciting. Much more exciting actually.

Yeah, I like the cheeze too. But that makes it just sort of a novelty song to me, whereas I'm highly excited by the sexy drums, bass and guitar of Billie Jean.

Like, what other song can you be in a coffee shop or at the grocery store and just hear 2 bass drums and one snare of a simple 4/4 beat start up and get that excited?

Mmmmmmmmm....cheese.

I may have to re-think this "Thriller" thang. Basically up to now I thought it sucked only slightly less than ... oh lets say... "Safety Dance" :oldrazz:

Thats right.

I see what you're saying Wilhelm...I don't blame you, BJ gets me excited too, as does Beat It...but Thriller, IMO, is the best because its a great little storyline and what ISN'T funny about a musical with zombies?

Thriller is something I can watch over and over, and still smile each time...and maybe the only reason I like it (other than the great beat it has) is because I'm a big BIG fan of horror/John Landis/etc.

I don't get the big deal with Thriller.

I like Billie Jean better...and my fave album of his is Off the Wall.

Its just something that a lot of people like...take for example, Star Wars. Thriller is NO WHERE NEAR SW's popularity, but they are both loved by many audiences.

Vincent Price

Ive loved the song and video for as long as i can remember

And there HAS to be some little white kid break-dancing!

Kids love Thriller remixed by gay Scandanavian DJs at 400 BPM.

I really like the video because of the horror aspect.

It was really cool.

I remember seeing it a long time ago when I was a kid, I still love it.

I loved the making of Thriller where John Landis and his crew show all the special effects in the wereJackson transformation.

I like the part where Jacko was pretending to have the hots for that attractive adult woman. Now that's acting.

I like "Beat It" more than "Billy Jean" or "Thriller". It's got that wicked guitar riff of Eddie's (and the solo is off the hook, too) and the video has the whole West Side Story knockoff thing going on. I like the guy who almost snaps his girlfriend's neck by yanking her hair back to kiss her as he's leaving the bar. And the gang leaders strut up in front of their gangs in terrible outfits and then they have the whole "tie our wrists together so we can dance with switchblades but not really stab each other" thing before Michael Jackson shows up out of nowhere and shows them that he's a better dancer than both of them so they should just both get along from now on and then they all dance together. It's beautiful. But mostly Eddie Van Halen saves the whole f**king mess.

"Billie Jean" is probably my favorite Michael Jackson song, let alone being one of my favorite songs.

I know about 85% of all of the steps to Beat It and Thriller...I went through a Michael Jackson phase a few years ago and I'm pretty sure a lot of us did..

Jackson did make some tight music, back in the day.
Billie Jean has to be my favorite song of his, Thriller taking a close second.
