Tim Burton and Shane Acker's new movie: "9"

Hey, sorry if there's a thread about this movie already, but I did an extensive search, and didn't find one in here.

The first time I ever heard of this movie was when I saw the trailer earlier on Hulu. It might be just the music, but I think the trailer rocked:

You can watch it in HD here: http://www.apple.com/trailers/focus_features/9/hd/

A new era in animated storytelling begins on 9.9.09. Visionary filmmakers Tim Burton (The Corpse Bride, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory) and Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted, Nightwatch) join forces to produce wunderkind director Shane Acker’s distinctively original and thrilling tale. 9 stars Elijah Wood, John C. Reilly, Jennifer Connelly, Martin Landau, Christopher Plummer and Crispin Glover and features the music of Danny Elfman. When 9 (The Lord of the Ring’s Elijah Wood) first comes to life, he finds himself in a post-apocalyptic world. All humans are gone, and it is only by chance that he discovers a small community of others like him taking refuge from fearsome machines that roam the earth intent on their extinction. Despite being the neophyte of the group, 9 convinces the others that hiding will do them no good. They must take the offensive if they are to survive, and they must discover why the machines want to destroy them in the first place. As they’ll soon come to learn, the very future of civilization may depend on them.

Saw a trailer for this with Coraline. This looks awesome!

What is that music? I know I've heard it before, and I think it's even in Rock Band...

As far as I know, 9 is not a comic book film. It's based on Shane Acker's short film.

Coheed & Cambria I think.

Oh crap. I meant to post this in the "Misc. Films" forum. I must've just looked at the "Misc." part in the forum title, and went with it. I wonder if the mods want or care to move it.

And the song is "Welcome Home" by Coheed & Cambria, and it is on Rock Band:

This has such a great look. I'm glad to see a darker animated film will be hitting mainstream theatres.

hopefully if it's any good, it'll get nominated for next year's oscars, for best animated feature.

^That would be great. Next years Oscars have a great list of potential best animated films

Coraline
Nine
Up
Ponyo (Hiyao Miyazaki's next film)
Monsters Vs. Aliens
Fantastic Mr. Fox

Should be a good race

The movie looks snazzy. I saw the teaser before Coraline. Nice looking and original.

Okay, so I just came across a 2-minute sneak peak to an upcoming movie that blew me away. If there's already a thread here already about this, I apologize, but the title of the movie is too short to search for, and I didn't find any mention of this in the first 10 pages of this forum.

Anyway...

Has anyone seen/heard anything about the upcoming movie, "9"????

Here's a description of it via Wikipedia:

Wikipedia said:
9 takes place in a world parallel to our own, in which the very legacy of humanity is threatened. A group of sapient rag dolls, living a post-apocalyptic existence find one of their own, 9 (Wood), who displays leadership qualities that may help them to survive.

The conflicted, but resilient group includes 1 (Plummer), a domineering war veteran; 2 (Landau), an aged inventor; 5 (Reilly), a stalwart mechanic; 6 (Glover), a visionary and artist; and 7 (Connelly), a brave warrior. The trailer also depicts 3 and 4 as identical, hooded rag dolls whose numbers are on their front, and 8 as a hulking warrior, whose number is marked on his right shoulder unlike the others, who bear their numbers on their backs.

And this is apparently adapted from an Academy-Award nominated short film of the same name from 2005. This movie will star the voices of Elijah Wood, John C. Reilly, Jennifer Connelly, Crispin Glover, Martin Landau, and Christopher Plummer, with musical score by Danny Elfman.

The movie is set to be released on September 9, 2009 (9/9/09).

Here's the short film that inspired the movie:

Here's the trailer to the theatrical film:

And here's the 2-minute preview that sold me on this movie:

This is like LittleBigPlanet meets Fallout. :wow:

looks awesome... but everytime i hear him... he's Frodo....

Saw this trailer back with Watchmen, it looks interesting in concept, but has the looks of a bomb all over it, most animated movies of it's nature usually aren't very good IMO. Who knows this might be different, but I somehow doubt it.

I saw the short film in the theater when the Animation Show came to Austin, it was Burton-ish weirdness, but had a spooky little style to it. I like the apocalyptic rag doll feel to it. Will definitely check this one out.

It's rated PG-13, so that should give an inkling of what to expect violence and drama-wise.

Looks like Focus Features is going to start a count down of character posters for Shane Acker and Tim Burton’s new CGI animated action film ‘9′, which is looking completely awesome! This poster introduces us to ragdfoll character number 8 who was created to protect the other ragdolls from the evil machine monsters trying to kill them. Here is what Focus features say’s about the character:
