Tim Burton and Shane Acker's new movie: "9"

I rather liked this movie, but then again, I had just seen Whiteout, so that might have improved my outlook on it.

It's one thing to discuss the movie or even say it sucks but some posters will loom obsessively in a thread and bash anyone that likes the movie . That's just ridiculous.

Yes. If I was going.

**** this move.

****ing sucks

Trash.

But no. I am trying to create a discussion, which is not happening. Please. PLEASE disagree with me.

Even though Celtic has a problem getting his point across without bashing skulls, I agree it's a cop out to say "agree to disagree". It sounds like this movie was just an extended short. No character scenes, just a lot of pretty stuff to advance a mediocre story.

I do. I get very annoyed with that mentailty...i'm all like...

FFFFUUUUUUUUUUU :o

The way I observe it, Celtic's mentality won't allow him to accept that anyone liked the movie. His judgement stands, and it's the only one that counts in his mind. So any contradiction is a personal affront to him.

The description above goes both ways, by the way. So sometimes, "agree to disagree" is the only thing you're left with.

I'm still wondering whether I'm going to see this film or not ?

What? No. Discuss with me. Argue with me. I hate agree/disagree threads.

And no, a there is no hyperbole here Guard.

well, we keep being beaten across the head by Mod's that threads are here for "Discussion", not just for people who just "like" a movie or are positive and anxiously anticipating a film. We are supposed to be happy that people come into a thread and bash it again and again, because that's a balanced discussion.

9
I do appreciate all of the hard work that went into making 9,but aside from looking amazing there really wasnt much to the story.Just one chase scene after the other. The sapient ragdoll, storyline was original but i guess i was just expecting more.
Scale of 1-10 a 5

Yes you should. Thats how a ****ing discussion works. All positive is boring. Get over yourself.

LOL

Thanks for confirming my sentiments with your "I didn't like the movie--go ahead, try and argue with me about it."

It's a freakin' movie man. You saw it, you didn't like it. You gave your opinion about it. Leave it alone. Anything further than that is just you attempting to show off how much better your opinion and/or perception is, compared to others. Kinda *****ey, no?

Well....I was really looking forward to this movie.

And it sucked. For starters, i'm totally fine with a story not being all that deep. And I would have been fine with this one...but the characters were completely void of life.
They were boring, they weren't funny in any sort of way and they just had no real life to them at all.

We get little glimpses of personality, but that's it. Pixar is able to give real personalities to things that don't even freaking have voices, but somehow the people in charge of making this film couldn't even give life to the most vocal of their characters. We see one little scene of 9 building something quickly, showing that he's a smart being, a problem solver...and then that's it. We get the female character who's apparently a good fighter...but why? What's was she doing before this? Did she just wander around? And besides the goofy look the two characters gave towards the end (9 and her) was there any sort of relationship between the two growing? Who knows...they were was wooden as dolls and may as well have not even spoken at all.

The second thing had to do with a major moment in the plot.

Apparently 9 is pretty intelligent...enough to build something from scratch and enough to know to question the leadership of the little society they had going on....but he's not smart enough to know not to complete what the big, bad robot was trying to do in activating the giant other bad robot? Really!?!?

Here's the movie.

Oh hey! I'm awake! I'm not sure why I woke up much later than anyone else. Oh well!

Oh look! More of my kind! Hey! Let's go save that one guy.

Hey look! I built something from scratch! Go me! I'm smart.

Huh! We killed the evil robot that was trying to plug in that thingy. Ok, i'll go do it for him!

Wow! Bad stuff happens because I did what the bad robot was trying to do. I'm surprised!

Lots of bad things chase dolls around.

Dolls blow up facility.

the End.

LOL

We're on a ****ing movie forum. If we're not discussing movies, then why the hell are we here?

How is my opinion better? It's not. I'd like to see why some people liked the film. So we can go back and forth. Like a discussion. Which this is. A discussion board.

No. "Discussing a movie," is different from "if you liked the movie, I am going to challenge you and argue with you."

Your first reaction towards the first person who expressed any like for the movie was an aggressive one. You might have been pointing out specific instances in the movie to make it SEEM like it's still a "movie discussion," but you were still essentially saying: "How dumb of you to have missed this... Now, let me point it out to you, and if you can't provide a satisfying argument against it, then HAH, I was right all along."

It's one thing to discuss the artistic merits of the movie. Or its score. Or the acting. But it's another to use these "discussions" to undermine another human being's enjoyment (or lack thereof) of a movie. You can say: "I think...," "My opinion is...," etc., ad nauseum. That's okay. There's no need to impose these opinions and perceptions on others who don't want it. Have you ever thought that maybe there isn't a counter-argument to the crap you're spewing? I mean, I still enjoy Looney Tunes here and there, but if ever turn the same critical eye you're using for 9 towards Bugs and crew, I'm sure I can argue how bad they are from many aesthetic standpoints, as well.

Some people liked it. You don't. You can probably reply to the people with a differing opinion without making it a challenge to their intelligence. You shouldn't need their failure to dissuade you from your opinion to affirm yours. At least one would hope.

What the hell are you talking about...lol. When did I say anything bad about anyone who liked the movie...???

If you mean the post where I called out that one dude's defintion of the story, i'll admit to that. Because there really was no depth.

I'm not going to praise Transformers 2 for having a deep, and provoking storyline. Thats just a fact.

This is more or less true for all films that aren't universally loved.
