Tim Burton to Direct Amy Adams/Christoph Waltz in "Big Eyes"

Sleepy Hollow, Big Fish and Sweeney Todd are all excellent movies... even Frankenweenie was remarkably stellar work. So 20 years seems like a stretch.

He's leaned on Depp a little too heavily in recent years, but this movie should show what he's capable of again.

I would say Sleepy Hollow is the exception. I do enjoy that film quite a bit.

Any thought given to a possible release date?

I'd assume fall 2014, if only to get Adams and Waltz a little Oscar attention.

i don't about you guys, but i would love to see Burton work again with Michael Keaton

There's a role in Miss Peregrine I think he'd be absolutely perfect for...

Right on. Those four are excellent. Lest we forget that Depp was Oscar nominated for Sweeney Todd. Corpse Bride is pretty good as well.

And I may be in the minority (on the internet at least) but Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is actually pretty solid and much closer to the spirit of Roald Dahl's book. Little too much nostalgia for the 1971 version caused the backlash methinks.

I always liked Corpse Bride... but because it's not quite as good as The Nightmare before Christmas, people have a tendacy to dismiss it too quickly.

Is this supposed to get Oscar attention?

I'm confident it will especially with Weinstein backing it and the Waltz/Adams combo. Weinstein's already pimping this at Cannes and it hasn't even shot a single frame. I think this will be TWC's big Oscar movie next year.

I really do hope this leads to more old school Burton works. I mean, I've liked a few of his recent works (I, for one, thought his Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was quite enjoyable), but they just lack the flavor of his Edward Scissorhands/Ed Wood kind of stuff.

Bruno Debonnel is the cinematographer:

I am preparing to film Tim Burton’s new film in Vancouver in July. Even though he loves physical film, nothing has yet been decided from a production standpoint. The closing of the laboratory in Vancouver means that we would have to send the dailies to Los Angeles and we will probably end up choosing digital, just because we don’t have the choice anymore.

The film is getting released on Christmas Day in the States it's been confirmed.

Exhibitor Relations @ERCboxoffice Follow Tim Burton's BIG EYES will drop Christmas Day 2014 from Weinstein Co. Amy Adams, Christoph Waltz star.

Finally... we have some news.

Could this be Burton's Oscar moment?

I think so Harvey Weinstein seem pretty confident placing it in December and very early report's saying this is a great script and if it is Oscar noms all round Director, Actor and Actress.

I'm definitely hearing rumblings that this will be Amy Adams' year.

Hopefully... Weinstein can definitely go for the "overdue" card with her. The early screening reactions said though that Adams' character is a quiet one (aka not Oscar baity) and Waltz completely stole the show so I could see Adams getting nominated and losing yet again.

Early screening's this early?

If Amy is nominated again she'll win it unless there's a Cate Blanchettesque performance from someone this year. Like you said the "She's due one" card will be played.

That didn't do Leo much good. :woot:

:funny:

Haha no it didn't but he was in a very strong field with a clear favourite and Matthew McConaughey performance was outstanding he wasn't going to miss out.

So I don't think the field will be as strong this year. So unless it's on that level( McConaughey/Blanchett) and she's nominated i think they'll give it to her.

Who's the early runners in the Actress category for Oscars 2015?

Yep. There was a test screening about a month back.

LOL good point. :hehe:

I think Pike (for Gone Girl) will be a serious contender. Witherspoon I guess (for Wild) and your usual suspects - Williams (Suite Francaise), Swank (Homesman), Chastain (she has like 3 movies coming out this year I think :funny:), etc.

This year doesn't seem too packed so that will work for Adams' favor. Unless... someone under the radar from one of the festivals (like Cannes) could emerge as a strong frontrunner. Like Binoche.

As a fan of Margaret Keane, Tim Burton and Amy Admas Im seriously looking forward to this movie!
