Jim Carrey in Ripley's Believe it or Not!....directed by Tim Burton

Apparently, Jim Carey or Jim Carey's agent knows what they are doing. Jim Carey has evolved from a comedic actor few can watch to a comedic actor most can watch toa serious actor people are curious to watch. Let's examine the evolution of Jim Carey post 'In Living Color.'

Early Carey(unwatchable but a box office draw):
Ace Ventura
Ace Ventura 2
Dumb and Dumber
The Mask
Batman Forever(a very annoying Riddler in a very annoying film)

Mid Carey(watchable and still a huge draw)
Cable Guy(watchable; dark and more serious but still goofy)
Liiar, Liar(watchable; zanny character but not ridiculous)
TheTruman Show(watchable; serious role done well)
Man on the Moon(watchable; biopic done masterfully)
Me, Myself, and Irene(watchable; crazey yet plausible)
How the Grinch Stole Christmas(watchable, back to earlyold Carey but done right)
The Majestic(watchable;serious role done seriously right)

Newer Carey(gaining critical acclaim and money)
Bruce Almighty
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Lemony Snickets A Series of Unfortunate Events
Fun with Dick and Jane
Number 23
Ripley's Believe It or Not
Horton Hears a Who(2008)

He keeps getting better and dare I say 'he hasn't peaked yet?'

Spank you, Helpy Helperson.

I still reel back in shock when I discover that the African princess that showed him her boobs in When Nature Calls was a young Sophie Okenendo of Hotel Rwanda fame.

I agree. I usually don't like to say someone sucks because of their movie preference, but if you hate Dumb and Dumber, then you have major psychological issues.

Plus, they suck.

He also hates The Mask. How can you hate The Mask? :cmad:

Am I the only one who thinks Steve Oedekerk is extremely unfunny?

I love Carrey, comedic and serious roles alike.

You're Crazy.

I agree with BF, though.
I hate that movie with a passion.

I think everyone (especially critics) sucks, who didn't like masterpiece like Dumb & Dumber.

Interesting find, Galactus. Good job of digging up this old thread.

Now we just have to wait another 3 years to see the film. :D :(

Chris Columbus in Talks to Direct Ripley's
Source: Variety October 24, 2008

Paramount is negotiating with Chris Columbus to direct its long-gestating Ripley's Believe It or Not!, reports Variety.

Jim Carrey is still set to star as newspaper columnist-explorer Robert Ripley.

After being unplugged months before a 2007 production start in China with Tim Burton at the helm, Ripley's Believe It or Not! is getting a complete overhaul, based on a concept that Columbus pitched. Both Paramount and Carrey sparked to it, and the China-based storyline will be scrapped.

Once Columbus' deal is closed, the studio will hire a writer to draft the project, which remains a Paramount priority: The studio is aiming for a 2011 release and is hoping the film spawns a franchise.

Believe it or not this may come out in the next 20 years :p

Too bad Columbus sucks... Burton may have terrible narrative flow and direction, but at least his pictures are pretty to look at as well as being imaginative and inventive... Columbus is a pedestrian hack :(

When burton was attached I thought it would turn out like "Big Fish" with all these people and their amazing real oddities

Eric Roth Penning Ripley's Believe It or Not!

Source: Deadline
January 13, 2011

Oscar-winning writer Eric Roth (Forrest Gump) has come on board to do a complete rewrite of Ripley's Believe It or Not! at Paramount Pictures.

The site says that the project is currently without a director (Tim Burton and Chris Columbus previously circled), but Jim Carrey is still attached to star in the film.

The movie is expected to pick up with Ripley at the time when he gained celebrity status through a "Believe It or Not!" column that chronicled his search for the greatest oddities in the world. Along the way, he starts to respect his unusual human discoveries as more than mere conquests to be documented

Damn, this thing is still alive? Let's hope it actually gets made, this time.
