Tim Story (Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer) is set to direct the big screen adaptation of DC-Vertigo's gritty comic book The Losers for Warner Bros. Jamie Vanderbilt will adapt Andy Diggle's comic, working from a first draft by Peter Berg.

Berg and Weed Road's Akiva Goldsman and Kerry Foster are producing. Also producing is Sarah Aubrey, Berg's partner at Film 44, and John Cameron, who brought the project to Film 44.

The movie will center around a small band of elite and highly trained commandos who are set up to to be killed by their own government. They set out to avenge the wrong, as well as avenge other injustices.

The Losers was published by DC Comics imprint Vertigo in the 1970s. It was revived several years.

Story's feature adaptation will be set in contemporary times, with the special ops team carrying out missions around the world before the members are left for dead. Flying under the radar, they return and move around the U.S.

Certainly a change of pace for him

Hmm, not sure if I like his appointment as director. I think I would prefer Peter Berg to direct.

Wow, they want this movie to suck then?

Ill give Story a second chance. He didnt have that much freedom. The clips for FF4 look really good, but I said the same about S3 :whatever:

Other than F4 movies, he has Barbershop and Taxi under his belt. Not really something to jump for joy at.

I didn't like what Story did with the Fantastic Four, so I don't think I'd like what he would do here with DC material.

Why does this kind of sound like the plot to the A-Team?

I would like to have seen Berg run with this or a host of names other than Story.

If FF2 proves to be the dud people are already hinting it to be, then this movie is going to have a double meaning in it's title.

Tim Story?
ppffttt...
might as well hire Mark Steven Johnson while they're at it........

LMAO

Talk about hacks, Story and Johnson don't need to be anywhere near anything that is affiliated with the words "comic book" or "graphic novel"

Story is going to ruin it. How he continued to get work after Taxi is beyond me.

Honestly, was he the best name they could get?

Truth is WB is trying so hard to copy Marvel's movie success, with the exception of Nolan, they seem to only hire guys who worked on/Marvel movies.

From what I've seen Story's quality when it comes to film depends on the script of the movies, so depending on how good or bad the script for this is, Story might be able to pull it off.

Wow. I don't even read The Losers and I'm pissed. :down

This has bad written all over. I mean really Tim Story and Akiva Goldsman.

Just in case anyone's forgotten, Akiva Goldsman is the Academy Award winning screenwriter behind Batman Forever and Batman and Robin.

Yup, he won an Academy Award :) .

I'll just sit and wait. If this one is more of a gritty film as mentioned I'm willing to give the man the benefit of the doubt. He's not working with Fox anymore, who seem to be the ones chopping up any film he makes.

Wow. I've never read a post that single-handedly killed any interest I had in a film from the very getgo. Congrats.

I've noticed that even when given freedom some directors just don't make it up to snuff. For some reason, Story is turning out to be that director. I'm not entirely certain it's FOX involvement that ruins this guy's work.

Akiva Goldsmith also wrote the award winning film 'A Beautiful Mind' and later 'Cinderella Man' years later in his career.

His recent action film was 'I, Robot.' Which, imo, is LEAGUES better than his Batman films.

His other recent film was the Da-Vinci Code.

I don't know, but personally I'm letting BF and B&R slide. He was hired by WB to write films that were similar to the old campy 60s kid-friendly live action Batman TV show after parents became furious at how dark BR was. So, more or less, it was writing what the studio wanted. The later films in his career proved that he could harness his talent and so far he did, primarily with dramas, one of which- I believe actually won an academy award (Beautiful Mind) and seriously earned and deserved it.

This will never be made - so I don't care.

Possible. Hard to tell with WB. We did get Constantine and V for Vendetta and now, thank the maker, we will be getting Watchmen. But they have so many comic book based films in the pipeline, who knows which ones will actually see the light of day: Flash, Shazam, Wonder Woman, JLA, Teen Titans, Metal Men, Super Max and now The Losers. It's possible we will only see a few of those actually get made and released.

you should read his revised draft of andrew kevin walkers batman vs. superman. its pretty funny reading it, as to how completely obiouvs it is which scenes are AKW's and which are Akiva's. but akiva pulls the same crap he did in the batma films. i dont know what it is about him....when he's not writing a comic book film, he can be nothing short of brillaint. but the second its comic book related, he's like the craptastic film version of chuck austen.

^Because for some people in the biz, comic book films are slumming. That's why I always have to question the hatred toward Akiva for that script. Everything else he's written is great, yet the one comic film sucked. That should tell you something.

Yeah it tells me that not everyone who can write a great drama can write a comic book film.

This Akiva Goldsman man for example.

I've give Story one more chance with F4: ROTSS. If it sucks then I'm done and will never watch another film of his again. People like him give black people in Hollywood a bad name.
