Megan Fox is ditching the robots and taking her career to Western and underwater frontiers.

Fox is in final negotiations to star opposite Josh Brolin and John Malkovich in "Jonah Hex," Warner Bros.' action Western based on the DC Comics character. She also is attached to star and develop "Fathom," Fox Atomic's comic book-based underwater adventure.

In "Hex," being directed by Jimmy Hayward, Fox will play Leila, a gun-wielding beauty and love interest of Hex (Brolin), a scarred bounty hunter tracking a voodoo practitioner (Malkovich) who wants to raise an army of undead to liberate the South.

The movie is prepping for a shoot in April, with Mad Chance's Andrew Lazar and Weed Road's Akiva Goldsman producing.

"Fathom," a comic created by recently deceased artist Michael Turner, follows a young woman named Aspen who learns she is a member of a race of aquatic humanoids who possess the ability to control water.

The project was at one point set up at James Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment. When the option lapsed, producer Peter Safran scooped it up and began packaging it, eventually attracting Fox, a fan of the comic since its 1998 debut, when it became the top-selling comic of the year. Fox had been seeking Turner to investigate "Fathom's" rights availability.

Fox is now helping develop and shape the adaptation, which is being written by Jordan Mechner, the creator of video game "Prince of Persia." (The ICM-repped scribe also wrote on Disney's Jerry Bruckheimer-produced adaptation.)

Safran is producing with Steve Bessen and "Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles" actor Brian Austin Green. Fox also will receive a producer credit.

Turner will be credited as exec producer. Frank Mastromauro also is exec producing. Zak Kadison and Eric Lieb at Atomic will oversee.

Although Fox began her acting career with the comedy "Hope and Faith," it was her feature debut in "Transformers" that set her on the road to becoming one of the top female names in Hollywood. Her appearance on the cover of GQ late last year propelled her to become a sex symbol, setting records for the magazine's sales and its Web site.

ICM-repped Fox next appears in this summer's "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" and stars in the Diablo Cody-penned comedic supernatural thriller movie "Jennifer's Body," which opens in the fall. She recently appeared in the comedy "How to Lose Friends and Alienate People."

Brolin/Fox = strangest comic book movie couple yet?

I think yes

Jonah Hex just got s**tty.

What?!

Why doesn't this movie have a forum yet?
From the CA Casting Thread:
Read this Louie, comes directly from the boss ;)

Currently planned are The Avengers, Captain America, Thor, Green Lantern, The Green Hornet and possibly Shazam!. We'll begin adding these shortly.
No :(

We;re learning from things like The Spirit which had what 2 posters? If hex once filming starts attracts a lot of posters, then it will go up.

The role is for a ****e, and it isn't the most difficult of roles, per the script. She'll do fine.

Read the script. It doesnt need a big huge good actor for the role. Megan Fox will do fine. It'll just be weird to see her ****ing Josh Brolin...

This just proves my theory about how Hollywood cast female actresses in movies they aren't sure will make money. Find someone people like, someone guys are sure to show interest in, and has been seen as popular/hot at the time. Boom go!

Looking at that summary of Jonah Hex.... yeesh. Either they've made drastic changes to the (excellent) script, or this report is way off-base with the plot. I sorely hope it's the latter.

And I wouldn't worry about Megan Fox's involvement. It's not a huge role, but if she pulls it off, it's the kind of role that she could use to show her acting chops. Plus...SPOILERS....

She dies. Horribly. Surely a bonus for those that hate her. :cwink:

I'd say the latter is pretty likely. The trades aren't above using Wikipedia and its ilk to find their "plot summaries" for comic book movies :o

Hopefully the makeup department will have the sense of cover up her hideous tattoos for the sex scenes.

Her tattoos are covered in every other movie she's done. I don't think this one will be any different.

It depends. I think the tattoos make her even more hot. Or at least, she pulls it off well unlike Amy Winehouse.

Woe is Warner Brothers...
Anyway, as long as that talentless hack stays away from the DC biggies like Wonder Woman, Catwoman and the like, I will be happy...

^ Geez, she's not that bad. I've seen much worse.

A lot of good actors have started out not so good. Maybe Brolin and Malkovich could bring out the best in her. Who knows?

Megan is good for this part, and her name will attract an extra audience who might not have seen this film, so good move IMO

As for the Hex forum Chewy already answered that, but as it is apet project of mine, I'm trying for you guys.

Megan is average to me, but this is certainly a role she can do.

Well yea she isn't the worst actress in the world. But I think having her in this movie could cheapen it you know?

She's playing a ****e. One that

Dies rather grotesquely

:hehe: Ahh I see. Possibility of nudity? :D

I have been meaning to get into Hex for ages, it's pretty hard to find where I am though. Must try harder!

I'd strongly recommend this trade, you can get from Amazon or wherever

I think that there will be at least half a dozen posters in the Hex forum, not two. That's a start. Heck, Jonah's comic is much more readable than all of the books caught up in this Final Secret Dark Crisis Wars mess. A casual reader can actually pick up the book and understand it.

I can sort of understand the reluctance to start a Hex forum, purely out of a limited amount of users, but at least there would be actual news there. Unlike Captain America and The Avengers where we'll probably only get a couple of scraps between now and at least Comic Con. I don't understand how The Green Hornet really has much more interest.

I suppose not every movie needs a forum, Whiteout doesn't have one, but I think there probably needs to be a separation between General Films that are actually in production (with actual news!) and just general speculation about comic book films. Might be a good place for The Losers to go too. And, certainly would have been a good place for Persepolis.

And, really, unlike The Punisher and Spirit, the film might be good. A summer spot actually gives it potential as well. If it can make $50 million, that's probably all it needs domestically to justify a sequel.
