Time for stricter gun legislation in the US yet??

Stricter laws on guns?

  • Hell yeah. We need a big ban covering alot of guns and how people get them

  • Not a ban. Just more legislation

  • Gun control isn't the problem

  • DON'T TAKE AWAY MY BIRTH RIGHT COMMIE!!

i find is disturbing that anyone could possibly think that the answer to gun violence is more guns. if that seems to be the best solution, then theres a much great social problem going on than the guns themselves. the idea that we would need to live in a heavily and readily armed society to be safe is extremely sad and warrants us to take a look at whats wrong with society itself.

Beautiful

LOGIC:

While more people are Killed in all ways thru the USE of cars,.... Cars are not "designed" to damage other living creatures.

Guns are,... period.

Serious Apples and Oranges to bring a vehicle that transports more than it kills.
A better choice would be Knives.

V.

also your average person spends significantly more time behind the wheel than they do with a gun in their hand. Simple law of averages that car accidents will outnumber gun accidents

this is why women drivers get cheaper insurance.

But a gun's SOLE PURPOSE is to kill

Axes are tolerated as they are important tools

you're clutching at straws in order to defend your illogical obsession with "security"

can you chop wood with your gun?

Good stuff guys

So I realized that I've never had a photo taken of me holding guns before, so I grabbed a couple and took this baby here:

dorkwithguns.jpg

Yeah! Aren't I a f***in' badass? Aren't you scared and respectful of me now? I'm going to right all the injustices that have been heaped upon me!

...or maybe I'm just a dork holding guns...

Not to mention well equipped to fight off the countless intruders that attack your home and establish your manliness

Defending your home has nothing to do with manliness. If I got a gun, it would never be with intent to kill. I also will not stop going to the shooting range, it's fun.

I didn't equate the two with each other. Just that most of the people who claim to need their guns to protect their homes just radiate machismo.

I see no need for the gun to ever leave the shooting range if you like going there.

I don't know where you're getting most from. I know people who just have a bat and they radiate machismo.

It's your gun, why would you leave it at the shooting range? I put enough trust in the bank to leave my money there and I don't really trust them either. I'm not about to trust some old fat guy at a shooting range.

I'll get a desert eagle and get someone to help me lift it everytime I want to use it.

What I'm saying is, you enjoy shooting it at the range right? That's cool, what does it do for you outside of the range.

Guns were meant to injure things, plain and simple. I can't see myself deriving enjoyment from using it, even at a range where I'm shooting pieces of paper. I might as well go play with a missile or a tank.

God oh god how I wish they'd respond to the nation's drug problem with a solution like that. "There are too many drugs out there. Let's make sure everyone gets some drugs! "

That'll make people do less drugs obviously

Defense, we just went over this. If you don't go to a shooting range or take gun safety classes, etc, you should have no business with a gun.

Yes, it's so terrible that some people use them to aquire food. You don't get enjoyment from using it, who cares? This isn't about you, it's about the rights of everyone. No one is saying you have to go shoot a gun. You like playing video games, do you not? This is closer to a video game than playing with a missile or a tank. You're reaching and overexaggerating.

I'll go tell my uncle that he's a horrible person because he has rifles...and had never injured a person. He burned himself once while making popcorn on the stove, let's ban oil and popcorn.

I can only argue my own stance so you'll have to excuse my personalization of my argument. You were actually the first to bring up your own enjoyment of the shooting range.

I don't need to "reach" to make my claim of "guns are made for injuring things/people and have no place in civilian hands; whether you're the robber or the poor person defending their home".

That last part about oil and popcorn was completely absurd, just like all the "let's ban cars" rebuttals. I'm not here to judge you or your uncle or any gun owners just because they own a stupid piece of metal that fires bullets. People do harmful things to each other all the time.

When do you imagine that you'll ever need your gun for defense?

I realize that and who are you going to convince? no one. I'm not trying to convince you to love guns or to get a gun. However, you're trying to convince me of how terrible they are and that there's something wrong with me for liking them. You say you're not and you're not a bad person. I can absolutely understand your reasoning for not liking them but I don't hate guns, I hate people.

I'm going to add that until I shot a gun, I was deathly afraid of them and hated them. I don't "love" them now but I would've been more afraid if I'd never shot one, I respect them now and what the can do.

Ofcourse it was absurd. The part about tanks and missiles was also absurd, guess we're even.

A few years ago, I enjoyed going to a bow and arrow range once in awhile, trying to hit the target with an arrow and stuff.

They never let anybody take the bows or arrows home with them

I think this is the last anti vs pro gun convo I wanna have for a long time. Both sides are quite firmly planted in their beliefs and hey, that's America. That's one thing about this country I do support.

What I do want, is for everybody to make a decision on their 18th birthday on whether or not they support gun ownership in this country. Maybe put it on their license like how they put the organ donor info. That way, when somebody gets shot and they're on the news; the reporters will say whether or not the person was in favor or not. That'll make it a lot easier for me to decide who to feel sorry for.

Sorry Fuzzy, wasn't my intent to convince anybody of anything or say that there's something wrong with ya. Guns are something that you can make a pretty good judgment about when you first hear about what they are and what they do, no convincing required.

I didn't need to shoot a gun to respect them, I'm pretty sure having them shot around me did that. But I'm glad you came to that realization eventually.

Ofcourse it was absurd. The part about tanks and missiles was also absurd, guess we're even.

Guess so

I seriously don't see any changes happening to our rights OR the amount of guns in this country, despite this being the worst mass killing to date so I guess this is all quite futile

I just want to point out, while it hasn't been brought up on this page as far as I can see, the common pro-gun argument "criminals ignore the law" is completely ******ed, and I'm surprised ANYONE uses it.

If criminals ignore the law, whats the point in making ANY laws? If criminals are just going to ignore gun laws, ****, lets throw out the whole ****ing judicial system. The judges, the juries, everything. We've clearly been wasting our time making laws for society to abide by.

Changes I'd like to see:

1) Outlaw assault weapons, military grade weapons, or any that can be easily converted to automatic fire (there are actually a few semi-auto pistols that fall into the last category).

2) Eliminate all gun show sales except for antiques that don't fall under those listed in #1.

3) More thorough background checks, and make testimonials from 2 to 3 people (who are non-relatives and w/o any criminal or mental health record) mandatory.

4) Full US citizenship

Edit: One more :)

5) ALL transfers (even if it's from a father to his son) have to go through a FFL and be subject to the same background checks as any FFL purchase.

Damn good suggestions

Believe it or not, that's the easy part. Now we just have to stop whackos from goin crazy years after the gun purchase :(
