Ok, been a while since I've posted here, but now that I've allowed a month or so for the smell of the X-Men Apocalypse movie to wear off I felt the need to say what many of us are feeling...

The X-Men franchise needs a reboot!

That's the honest truth of things! Don't get me wrong, Fox has gotten some things right over the years, but as I've ranted about in the past they've (Kinberg, Ratner and Singer) crapped on the timeline so much that they've kind of ruined things, especially now, after Apocalypse.

Like many of you I thought that Days of Future Past was going to (softly) reboot some of the mistakes, but now that we've seen Apocalypse we know that any positive changes they made have been greatly outweighed by them doubling down on the stupid mistakes they've made. From Havok's age (and being the much older brother of Cyclops) to young Nightcrawler's tats (scars actually - kind of dark for a young kid) to making this franchise the Jennifer Lawrence show (anyone else raise three fingers in the air when she started her end speech?); I believe it's safe to say we've gone beyond the point of no return.

The ten year gaps are stupid!

Having Warren forced into this movie and then not even using Archangel in a good way was stupid!

Having the Phoenix Force (is it even a "force") show itself so early is stupid!

Having Jubilee in the movie and not using her was stupid!

How Professor X lost his hair was stupid!

How Storm's hair color was changed was stupid!

How Mystique was idolized was stupid!

How Erik was working in a steel mill was stupid (we're talking a guy who could pull gold out of the earth, or better yet, create his own country, or better yet, his own space station called Asteroid M)!

Psylocke's non-telepathic abilities and her sword/whip were stupid!

The fact that they forgot that it was Mystique, and not Sryker, who pulled Wolverine out of the water was stupid!

And I can keep going...

My worry is that Singer (and Kinberg) after crappin on the X-Men in the Apocalypse movie are going to keep on doubling down on their stupidity. It's time to move on. It's time for Fox to wake up, fire Singer (sorry Bryan, I was once a fan) and Kinberg (not sorry, was never a fan) and reboot this franchise.

Better yet, give it back to Marvel, but knowing that won't happen (but I once said the same thing about Spiderman) let's focus on what is in the realm of possibility.

Look, to get this discussion going, let me just put it out there...

And they can do this while even keeping some of the decent casting choices they've made...

REBOOT the X-Men and do something crazy...

Actually make an X-Men movie with Professor X teaching 5 students how to use their powers. Have those students be Beast (not blue and not with hands for feet - freaking stupid), Iceman (not the snowman version, but regular Bobby/Iceman), Angel (an actual Warren Worthington III), Jean (without the Phoenix force yet) and Cyclops. And have them all wear somewhat correct uniforms (or at least the yellow/blue version). And have them in the present (yes, that's not canon, but it could work) and no more timeline jumping. Effectively, plan out the movies in advance, which includes spin-offs that make sense (New Mutants, Excalibur, X-Factor, etc.), and have things build over time. And best yet, stay true to the canon. Guess what Singer/Kinberg (Fox, I'm talking to you too here), you aren't better at X-Men story writing than those who created the comic book stories for decades! Some small changes, ok, but the types of changes we've seen... stupid!

Now let's be honest, the villain is everything. Magneto has been overdone, so start off with a lesser villain so the focus can be on the character development of the five students. Go with half-brother Cain Marko who finds the Crimson Ruby of Cyttorak. They learn to work together by defeating Chuck's half-brother and the franchise starts anew.

I know I can't be the only one wanting this!

sigh

Why are people so focused on the original five? There are much, much more popular casts that should be used. I think the team set up post Apocalypse is pretty good. Just need to recast Wolverine.
