Terminator, Back to the Future, etc.
I love them, but WTF?

That crappy life the McFly family had at the beginning....it's impossible, it couldn't have happened.
Marty got involved with his parents and thus made them fall in love, right? But it was not in the "George is a *****" way that Lorraine described at the beginning, but in the "George is a badass" way, which created the "cool" present.

But, but, but...it can't be! The "crappy" present couldn't have happened!

Same with The Terminator....so John choose his dad basically? But he wouldn't exist if he hadn't sent Kyle, but Kyle couldn't have been sent if John wasn't born? Or what if the Terminator had killed Sarah? Kyle would disappear or something?

UGH!!!

so you don't like that time travel movie say that you can change time? that is what you are saying right?

Terminator presents us with a paradox while Back to the Future presents us with crap, everyone knows nerds have better family lives.

Couldn't this all be explained away by a theory involving alternative timelines and such?

Or poetic license.

You'd think instead of worrying about John Connor or Sarah in T2 or T3. They would have sent someone after baby/young Kyle Reese, or his parents or something. Instead of Jose Barrerra who worked at some drive thru. :o

you should see The Lake House........woah

Yeah I thought the Lake House was a great movie aside from some head scratching plotholes.

I think, MAYBE, he's saying that he dislikes plots in which the present is a certain way, but through a character meddling with the past, he changes the present in some form (a la Back to the Future).

The thing is, these time travel movies are total paradoxes and they're precisely the reason why time travel as depicted in popular science-fiction is impossible.

Tim Burton's planet of the apes ending !!

i still dont get it, did he go into some alternate universe or wat?

and who in their sane mind would leave that hot chick but then again the guy did smooch the ape that look like she was one of the jackson family members

I think Mark Wahlberg went into the future & the evil monkey took Mark Wahlbergs ship into the past

I agree with Back To The Future but I've never had a problem with The Terminator.

The characters are basically stuck in a loop ... a time circle.
John did not 'choose' his dad ... he knew that Kyle would be his father because Sarah told him. She realised at the end of the first film that she was on a set path and that John must know who his father will be so he can send him back in time.

John sends Kyle to the past ... he makes Sarah pregnant ... Dies protecting her in the past ... John is born ... John grows up/finds out Kyle will be his Dad ... Kyle is born ... Kyle grows up/joins John in the battle ... John sends Kyle to the past .............. and so on and so on ......

Everything the characters do in the Terminator movies has zero impact on the future.

By sending Terminators through time Skynet actually ensures its own destruction .... because Kyle HAS to follow and thus John is born.

I'm not saying I dislike them. Not at all.
I love them!
I'm just saying they confuse me, but then again, I was quite sleepy when I made this thread :o

Yeah, alternate timelines sounds about right :O

You can't actually think about any time travel movie or you'll see that they are all ******ed.
No movie that features going back in time makes any sense at all.
Going forward in time is okay, but not back.

Yeah, I guess that makes sense.

I highly doubt there is any record of who John Connor's dad is, plus I think he's born after Judgement Day.

BTTF is the only real method of time travel i can attempt to put together in a logical way(yes, i did once make flow charts:()

anyhow...T1 is a basic loop system as previously stated, but by making T2 and T3, not only did they nack up the dating, but totaly destroyed the time travel method used in T1...don;t ask me how...i worked this out jibbering to a mate ages ago

and if you think those methods of time travel are hard to wrap your head around...try the Dr Who method...crazy....

BTTF isn't that bad. Just because Marty has a better life, and George punched Biff instead of getting ran over, doesn't mean that Marty would not befriend Doc, would not help him with his experiments, etc.
