TMOS Review & Speculation Thread

Did you see the post that said she is a programmer for the Los Angeles Film Festival?

Not specifically but I heard it referenced too on here at some point. Most of her posts seem to revolve around LA Film Festival, her vegan lifestyle, and she mentioned she is openly a feminist. Not sure MOS ever had a chance with her ;)

Anyone can hate anything if they will themselves to do it. I think we're all guilty of this to some extent. If I walk into a movie determined to hate it, I'll find every fault possible in it. And if I walk into a film determined to love it, I'll be sitting there making excuses for all its problems. It's just human nature.

Anyway, I think that guy on CBM is legit, or at least I hope so. He responded to a lot of questions about the film after posting his mini review. Maybe he's just being a really good liar, but I think if he was bullsh**ing he wouldn't have taken the time to discuss the movie with people after posting his initial review.

If I remember correctly, don't they call any new and seemingly good looking comic book film as the "best comic book movie ever"?lol

Trying to boost moral, don't ruin it

lol; well in my defense, it's not really productive to boost morale with something untrustworthy like NTF. It's like a person A thinks that person B loves them because of what person B said, only to find out later on that person B has said that to just about everyone.lol

Well I've been a strict vegetarian for almost a quarter of a century, so her Veganism is commendable. Beyond that, do not let her anywhere near fantasy/SciFi/Comic Book movie screenings ever again! It would be like a magazine hiring me to be a food critic and sending me exclusively to places like Ruth's Chris or Black Angus. Guaranteed, they ain't gonna like what I tweet/write.

Bah fail, I said moral instead of morale. Slap me, it's late, going to bed :p

WTF!! B told me they loved me, and me only. Now I hear they've been putting the moves on with not only you, but every other person on these boards. I feel so used.:(

I didn't mean to bring up the fact that she was vegan in a negative light. What you do in your life is your own choice, and I respect people's choices. I just wanted to bring up the fact that the tweets she posted after she deleted the tweets in question were about wondering if the beans at El Pollo Loco were Vegan. Trying to hone in on the fact that she is not dwelling on this so called controversy like we are on the hype.

First off let me start off by saying I hope I am not violating any rules by posting this. If I am... I understand if this article needs to be deleted and will happily do so myself or be fine with it being taken off by administrators. Also, I know there will be the skeptics... But I can honestly say (after lobbying hard with some "Higher Ups" I work for) I was able to see an advanced screening of MAN OF STEEL last night. I write at a local blog/newspaper and work in the entertainment section and can't wait to review the film after the embargo is lifted. Until then (being a frequent visitor of comic book movie.com) I thought it only fair I share my thoughts about the film to those as excited as I was to see it. So let's begin....

• I think the one word I would use to describe this film (as cliche and overly used as it is) would be EPIC. The scope of this is unlike anything we have seen in a CBM. The amount of destruction in this movie is jaw-dropping.

• Those worried about action... Should not be. That is all I'll say about that.

• As far as the story goes I would say this is one of the most focused stories I've seen in some time. The writers/filmmaker knew exactly the story they wanted to tell... and unapologetically told it. This could be viewed as a negative by many due to certain characters not being fully fleshed out, although I LOVED it. Very refreshing to not have a convoluted plot.

• Zod is now the 2nd best villain in CBM history (No one can beat ledger's performance in my eyes). Michael Shannon is nothing short of sensational.

• Cavill... Is... SUPERMAN. Best interpretation we've seen... Including the animated versions. I was blown away at how this man encompassed everything we've ever loved about superman. You could tell how into this role he was. I know many were worried when the didn't show a lot of dialogue in the trailers... But you will be glad they didn't.... On that note...

• THEY HAVE SHOWN NOTHING IN THE TRAILERS. Literally all the best moments have not been shown.

• The CGI is some of (if not THE) best I've ever seen. Zack Snyder has such a way with special effects and even though it's so over the top... You believe you're actually witnessing these things occur... Which is a huge testament to the world they have created.

• Keep your eyes (and ears) peeled... There are in fact references to the DCU (however minor they may be)

NOW FOR MY NEGATIVES (though this is nitpicking)

• Amy Adams didn't fully sell me on Lois. Though it's not necessarily her fault. She surprisingly didn't have a ton of screen time. Hopefully she will be more developed in the sequel.

•....... Well... I guess that was my only negative.

I will be writing a full review as soon as I am able and dive into the million things I loved about this movie. Is it the greatest CMB of all time? If it's not... It's pretty damn close. Snyder should be embraced by fanboys across the globe when this hits. I know I can't wait to see it again and again.

From the comments section.

I will say it's a very fresh approach. Definitely not a standard CBM. Tone wise I'd say it's somewhere inbetween the "grounded" Nolan movies and the fantastic cinematic spectacle that was the Avengers.

The fact of the matter is Lois is a huge part of Superman's story and I felt it was a slight negative that she wasn't incorporated more.

As far as the characters go I think I spoke wrong when I said Lois is underdeveloped. The fact of the matter is this is 110% a story about Superman. The rest of the characters add to the story but never are the focus.

I will say this... If you liked BB and TDK you will LOVE this. There has been so much emphasis on Nolan's Batman being in a seperate universe but to be honest the feel of this film feels very in line with those movies. I will say this IN MY OPINION this is just as quality of a movie as the Nolan movies.

It is inspirational. Honesty it sounds so corny but I teared up a few times. It has this very strong undertone of hope. Some of the scenes mixed with Hans Zimmers score gave me chills (that's an understatement).

Zimmers score could not have been more perfect. Better than his work on TDK trilogy in my opinion.

I don't want to give anything away but you will not be disappointed with how Krypton is portrayed.

I would say this is definitely a masterpiece. Snyder clearly respects the character and mythos very much and you can feel it throughout the movie.

I think the Pinto beans at El pollo loco are vegan, but the spanish rice is not! Go Figure lol. I get a sense that she would be very judgemental about meat eaters and I'm not. I chose to be a Vegetarian, but realistically it isn't for everyone. Just like MOS and STID aren't for her I guess.

Second time reading this, and it makes me extremely happy.:yay:

Taking everything with a grain of salt so far (better safe then sorry) but darn this is all sounding awesome.

Both of you are a bunch of oversensitive little crybabies. One finds Big Bang Theory offensive. The other finds a tongue-in-cheek remark to be offensive. Neither Big Bang Theory nor that joke are meant to be taken as a serious, genuine representations of either the nerd community or of women. It's because of such prudish political correctness that comedy gems such as Mind Your Language will never again appear on television - that show was one massive racial stereotype after another, and even though it made fun of my race, I absolutely loved it, because it was hilarious. People really need to grow a thicker skin these days.

Agreed... everyone gets offensive over the littlest things today... and that's why the world is living in utter falsehoods and denial... PC (politically correct) has totally destroyed free speech... No one dares to speak up over anything anymore today... You can't critisize women, religion, the government (even if they go to war and kill hundreds of thousand of people), blacks, the minorities, nerds, superheroes, etc without getting into serious problems it seems... even if the criticism were real...

For God's sake, just chill out over the small things...

It would be a travesty if Superman Returns gets better reviews due to the Donner nostalgia  I really hope MOS ends up above 80%. Most of all I hope I love it :D

:barf::wall:

Come on people can't be that insane. :woot:

i highly doubt that's going to happen

I did get a private message that MOS will be getting a fantastic review from The Atlantic referencing it as being at the top of the list for superhero film genre. I guess we'll see in the coming weeks. Regardless of reviews, I just hope I love it. Everything is pointing to me enjoying it thus far.

Out of curiosity, how did the person who messaged you find out?

Predicting 98% for mos on RT. an optimistic hunch. But a film's greatness is how it stands up years later. Not too many comic book movies to me do in terms of greatness. perhaps sm2. ledger's joker is a performance that is great. perhaps this film can reach higher. fun to find out. seems the film sounds inspirational which is a good sign

98% is incredibly high. Even The Incredibles is 97% and I consider it almost perfect.
