"I give STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS a big fat meh, I was mostly bored by it."

I'm not a big Star Trek fan but there was too much action to be "bored by it" IMO.

For the love of God why are we giving her any attention

She's just some random Twitter person so I could care less.

She's not even a critic. I'd hate for my random comments on my personal twitter account about movies to be torn appart on some forum.

I remember when TDKR reviews were coming in and a couple were not gushing and overly complimentary. I went and saw it, and guess what? I LOVED it. Conversely, when a lot of The Avengers reviews were saying it was the best thing since sliced bread, I went to the theatre expecting to have my World rocked, and it was just really good. Imo it wasn't the CBM movie to end all CBM movies. I liked Thor and CA:TFA just as much as The Avengers, and I'm actually looking forward to those sequels more than the Avengers 2.

Good point.
This is the first time I've actually tracked a movie this intensely. Usually I see the reviews when the movie comes out. Even for TDKR and The Avengers which were my most anticipated movies of 2012.

All you needed to do was simply post one example or piece of evidence that shows that women are stereotyped for not being able to stay professional in the army due to their sexual attraction towards the opposite sex. If you had anything along the lines of functioning brain cells, you'd know the right way to fight ignorance is with information, not insults. Of course, you'd rather waste your time conjuring even more asinine, evasive responses.

The only time information can cure ignorance is when the ignorant party is open to the information. Had you engaged me as a productive participant in a civil debate, I could have conducted an open discussion with you. Instead you engaged me as an antagonist in an argument, closed minded to any information or opinion I had. And I do not wish to waste my time being involved in such a pointless situation.

So how about we let this thread get back on topic....

No, I'm just saying I was living in a bubble where there was 100% chance the movie would do well. I still think it will but I have to be realistic.

I so feel your pain! :csad: I so remember everybody being so psyched for Superman Returns and then the reality of it turning out to be a stale retread of STM. So disappointing! Strangely most of the reviews were good, but I distinctly remember when Roger Ebert's negative review of Returns hit the web. Superman fans (including myself) were shocked and clearly in denial. Instead of perhaps considering that Ebert may be giving his honest opinion most of us resorted to personal attacks. When most of us fans saw Returns we had to admit that Ebert was right. So I am not going to at all question the opinion of Jenn Murphy or anybody else who is saying MOS is terrible until I get to see the movie for myself.
Also, remember that most of the reactions to MOS have ranged from "very good" to "The Superman movie we have been waiting for". And the trailers look great and there is always going to be plants from rival studios spreading the word that MOS sucks so you will see more of that kind of negativity no matter how good the film is. Lastly, the fact that WB is having early screenings for critics is a great sign because a studio always hides a movie from critics until release day if they don't think the reviews will be positive. :woot:

Thank you for understanding :woot:

But yeah I know WB are confident in the movie :yay:

Kindly highlight where in this debate you had provided any relevant information. There was never an argument over the fact that there is prejudice against women in the armed forces. All I did was simply question your self-righteous condescending whining about a joke seemingly demeaning women in the military on the basis of a stereotype that doesn't exist.

You have failed to directly respond to even a single point I raised in my last five posts while basically going "lalalalala yer ignorant waste of time lalalalala" and ironically accuse me of being close-minded? Must be opposite day today in your little cuckoo land.

Granted this has been beat to death, but coming from former Marine who worked with Male and Female Marines for over 10 years there is nothing remotely un-professional about her comment to the Gen. He asked her opinion and she told him, and for the most part she maintained military bearing( she didn't go bonkers, and say "OH MY FREAKIN GOD SIR!!! HE IS SO HOT, I WANNA SEE UNDERNEATH THE SUIT AND POUR CHOCOLATE ON HIM!") she just said "he's kinda hot." People seem to forget that even though we are taught proper military bearing in the service, we are still human. If you were in a situation like that you wouldn't just say he's kinda hot. You would be like "HOLY FREAKING CRAP THAT'S A FLYING MAN!!" "AND HE'S HOT!!!" Unless you actually believe Superman is out there somewhere. Then you would probably be like "I KNEW IT!!!" ;)

I didn't say it was going to get 100%! I said 100% chance of it being amazing. There is a difference.
Besides I want this movie to be better than Iron Man 3 anyway.
Nothing wrong with liking both Marvel and DC. But if you think I am a troll whatever.
If I was a troll I would do a way better job than this. :yay:
If you love MoS will it then even matter what she said? no? there you go.

My 9 year old was talking to me on Voxer and she said she saw an MOS trailer and said it was gonna be awesome! There you have it folks put your fears at ease. My 4th grade daughter said it was gonna be awesome! You have nothing to fear! You can put as much weight into that as what that Jen chick said on twitter:)

FROM SOMEONE I KNOW WHO SAW IT
-It’s everything you want a comic book movie to be. Third act is ALL action. Most of the rest told in flashback … some corny dialogue but capable and moves along.

Interesting

It blows my mind that a tweet that may or may NOT be referring to MOS has caused such commotion. Let's move on from the gender issues already.

I'm sorry, but what tweet are you talking about? I haven't been online for most of the day. What happened?

Someone on Twitter named Jenn Murphy who may or may not have seen MOS said the movie is terrible and fails the Bechdel Test (even thought ALL superhero movies fail this test).

she also said the reason why reactions have been on embargo is because it's terrible.

and I think that's what really got us all upset, because she was making it sound like everyone across the board thought it was terrible.........

A big handful of people who saw the screening gave rave reviews for Man of Steel. 11/10, 10/10's, making people weep, best comic book movie, etc etc.

All it took was for one woman on twitter to label it, quote, "TERRIBLE" because of something about not following a flow-chart about women in movies or something along those lines. There was also a "abysmal" one thrown in the majority of outstanding hear-says that Man of Steel is simply AWESOME.

1 person caused the uproar. I'm almost afraid to see what a few more bad things to say about Man of Steel will do to the board....

meh not concerned. No one can sway me in my thinking that this will be the Superman that I rightly deserved! In the words of Dante in that cool animated epic "YOU WILL NOT STOP ME!! NOTHING WILL STOP ME!" from enjoying MOS!

The thing is, I didn't see anywhere in her tweets where it said MOS. Everyone just assumed she was talking about MOS.
