TMOS Review & Speculation Thread

^ In hindsight, the chemical threat to the city element, and the "death scene of his parents" were kind of rehashed, but for the most part, it's a strongly original film. For an origin, anyway.

I think that MOS will be the BB of the 2010s. :)

BB was a great movie, but only seen by a few in comparison to the rest. It also rehashed a lot of bits from the original Burton Batman. It also suffered from being a new fangled reboot, not long after the terrible B&R fiasco. TDK came out, I spoke to many that didn't even realize there was a BB movie or that they were connected. Even when TDKR came out, they just saw it as a TDK sequel, not realizing it was a trilogy. Superman Returns played to filmgoers similar to BB and didn't over excite movie goers, either.

MOS and its hype is massive compared to BB and a lot of that has to do with the Nolan tag and the success of the TDK trilogy. People are ready to buy into a new reboot, especially with the proven rebooter (Nolan) being attached.

It's Superman. I'll buy it for a dollar!! Ok well more than a dollar, with ridiculous theater prices these days! Plus popcorn and drink even though being a diabetic I just sit and watch my wife and kids eat it while I nurse my diet coke

Heres the culprit

She also tweets profusely how monsters university will be best movie of summer even tho she hasnt seen it and it releases the week after mos

Dude, who cares? Like others have said, so what if some people don't like MOS? It was bound to happen. TDK is loved by many and even that film has its share of critics and fans who don't like it. Don't turn this into a potential excuse for other people to bash critics or folks who didn't like the film.

The Great Gatsby? 90? I know it's all about taste, but that movie was poorly executed.
I'm not gonna get on her for that MoS score though. 70 isn't terrible. AND I haven't seen it. :o

Yeah.

Man, give it up. It's just one movie reviewer's opinion. Not everyone is going to completely fall head over heels with this film. Who cares whether or not one person's rating spoils the pot.

In the end, the only opinion that's going to matter is your own.

More notes from the press person I know:

It's a good action movie ... B+.

Definitely not as heavy or dark as any of the Batman films. Russell Crowe is great (he has a considerable amount of screentime), as is Kevin Costner. There's a tragic element that goes beyond the destruction of Krypton. Heavy on the mayhem and destruction.

I won't know until I see the film for myself, but it is a bit discouraging in terms of some people saying Lois Lane may have been miscast with Adams. Everything else seems to be positive from word of mouth so far. It would certainly be a surprise with Adams' track record of performances to end up being a weaker part of the film.

^ It wouldn't surprise me, as much as disappoint me. To me, it's all about the writing. She has the potential to be underwritten or hijack the narrative, and the best approach is in the middle. Though, ironically, I'm most skeptical of her just fitting the part. There are some great actors with roles that just don't fit them (IE. Don Cheadle in IM2)

But it just might because the whole cast probably does an excellent job of fitting into their characters. Fishburne suits the temperamental nature of Perry as a person, Russel Crowe is authoritative enough as it is to channel Jor-El, Costner bleeds that All-American quality for Pa Kent, etc.

If she's the weak link, it's because the chain looks REALLY strong.

Good point. I also completely agree about Don in IM2. Howard was so much better and more fitting for the role :o

B+ is a great score. Its above average.

More notes from the press person I know:

Not very descriptive (for obvious reasons), I dont mind critics writing it of as just a good action movie and rating it down because of that. The thing is if a critic gave Avengers a 5/5 and then gives MOS a 3.5/5 for being an "action movie" then we have a problem. :cmad:

IM3 rated higher than MOS lol there is no way in hell MOS is that bad, IM3 was simply ok to down right terrible. People like this opinion should be taken lightly as they have particular taste. Cant wait to start reading in dept review as all these light ratings is starting to get annoying. Would love to see what they think the flaws of the film are.

That "After Earth" received a 70, when it was hardcore panned by any other source, is interesting.

Damn her, for giving a film she's seen 7/10, clearly she is wrong, I haven't seen the film but it's clearly the best film ever made.

Oh and for the record I do have just as high hopes for Monsters U as I do for MoS, it's time Pixar got out of that little funk and started making little masterpieces again.

No one said she is wrong as its her opinion, her track record certainly speaks for itself though.

I think it's far more interesting to see how non-fans react to this film rather than people who are likely more swayed by the "fan-moments", I mean I'm not as big a fan of the Avengers as most people here are, but it was pretty exciting to see so many non-comic book fans take so very well to that film, it told me that despite the heavy fanservice nature, it was still highly enjoyable beyond all of that.

From what I've seen of Amy so far (which is admittedly very little) I think she can fit the role of Lois. I love the whole "What's the S stand for?" exchange in the trailer.

What's been said so though? Is it that the role is underwritten or is it the performance?

And the ridiculousness starts here? Judging reviews of a film you haven't even seen yet. Really?

What, are people supposed to have zero response to the pre-release reviews? Do you want us to say nothing?

That would be... ridiculous.
