TMOS Review & Speculation Thread

TDK is 94%. That IS optimistic. :funny:

98% is incredibly high. Even The Incredibles is 97% and I consider it almost perfect.

MOS won't beat the Knight critically, simply because: for some, it would too different for the old movies. For others, they will see Zod and origin and say "Remake!"

Keep in mind nostalgia elevated SR to 75 percent fresh at Rotten-tomatoes.
Inflexible Donnerverse fans would be quick to bash MOS.

In a perfect world, people would see the characters as being bigger than any one filmmaker's vision. But we live in a world that is far from perfect. A few critics today might bash Cavill for being too tough and serious, the same way they did Reeve for coming across as "soft."

But the general public has moved on. They want a modern superhero movie.

MOS will more than satisfy them. The main reason the Batman and Bond reboots didn't offend some critics is that they happened before, multiple times, so that the idea of a flexible universe is there. The sequel might be the one to crack the "90s" , because critics will have finally had a film to get "used" to Cavill, AND have an 'original' story with someone not named Zod or Lex.

I'm guessing MOS will get around 83-88 critically. If it gets below 78, then I'll start to worry.

I want this movie to be in the 90's status... But that's hard to do for superhero movies after TDK... The Avengers was the only one to do so since then.

Yeah, but it's been so long I wouldn't even see the point in comparing it to the old movies. We know it's a reboot, and it's a different era for movies. I can see a comparison to SR or Nolan's Batmans, but not stuff from 30 years ago.

Of course that won't stop some older reviewers.

IMO, Pixar movies get way too much love from critics. I like The Incredibles and all, but 97% is ridiculous when you consider how many great movies can't even crack 90%.

Name something wrong with the movies? I know it sounds stupid to say, but they are loved amongst critics for a reason.

Since it's Goyer we're dealing with, we will hear some cheesy and cliche lines of dialogue here and there. It'll be OK, though.

Don't tell me Finding Nemo isn't 99% status!

I think that's a pretty reasonable expectation. And good points. The negative reviews it might garner won't necessarily reflect on whether it's a good movie or not, but more on the critics' preferences for the character of Superman. A lot of TDK's negative reviews were clearly a reaction against how dark and self-serious it was.

Well, The Incredibles was a good example. The movie's geared toward the family, but strangely dark and sadistic. Like Pixar usually is until they're reigned in (see the original ideas for the first Toy Story, where Woody is a borderline psychopath).

The TS trilogy was great, but I feel they probably hit their peak with Nemo.

I consider The Incredibles to be one of Pixar's best, but I'll gladly admit it's uneven. The human drama of balancing roles takes a backseat to superhuman action in the films later half. But what good action it is ;)

The Incredibles was a fun movie, but (at least for me) it's one of those movies that I saw once and never needed to see again. I guess that's not exactly a flaw, but most superhero movies (if they're good) I can watch over and over again.

And Nemo I just found boring. I'm sorry, but I never understood the love for that movie. I was looking at my watch the whole time. I'd rather just walk around an aquarium for two hours than sit through that thing again.

Finding Nemo, Toy Story 1, 2 & 3, The Incredibles, Monsters Inc. and UP.

Those are unmatched.

98.4 <-- That number is supposed to be a radio station or something... Not the combined Rotten Tomatoes ratings on 7 movies...

Nemo's a VERY well-rounded movie. But Dory's ongoing memory loss gag takes the film down a few notches. It's like inviting an inquisitive four year old on a road trip. "Are we there yet?" "Why did we stop" etc.

It's understandable as far as characterization, but somewhat annoying. I don't think she can carry a movie, so I might not watch Finding Dory.

Yeah, I'll be trying to skip that one (even though I know my girl will drag me too it).

After MOS comes out I have to wait until next year to be excited for TASM 2... Thor 2 doesn't fizz me. I guess I have the second part of the Hobbit to look forward to. Oh, and MOS 2 in 2015!... Sigh...

I'm excited for Thor 2, but some of those rumors certainly have me a little worried.

I'm the only one excited for The Winter Soldier. :hehe::cap:

Not true, I'm plenty excited for it. It's the Marvel film I've been looking forward to the most since First Avenger, even more than Avengers.

I hope they don't make it a showcase for TA2.

They won't. They didn't with Iron Man 3 and it doesn't look like they did that with Thor 2, either.

Hinting at it once or twice is nice, but when the movie is a 2 hour commercial... That's the stuff I do not like.

I don't think they will, the whole WS plotline is pretty big so they wouldn't be able to waste time advertising TA2. :yay:

So, June 10th is the date the embargo is lifted?
