Happy Ramadhan.

May your 30-day spiritual journey be a fulfilling one.

Ramadhan Mubarak, DM and all Muslims here at the Hype.

Oh, heard on the news today that the first day of Ramadhan was greeted by a massive earthquake in Indonesia. Did you feel it in Malaysia, DM?

Those who lived in high-rise apartments did, though I did not. I could sleep through doomsday. :p

Not so much a dinosaur but more like a dinosaur-like villain who would fight Godzilla.

I am ignorant about what exactly Ramadhan is outside of the very very basics, and I am too lazy to read the wiki on it. Care to enlighten me in terms a heathen with a short attention span could understand?

From wiki

"The word "Ramadan" is derived from an Arabic word for intense heat, scorched ground, and shortness of ration."

So it's pretty much a funfest

Ramadhan is the ninth month of the Muslim calendar during which Muslims everywhere are commanded to fast throughout the 30-day month from daybreak to sunset. It ends with Shawal, the tenth month, where Muslims everywhere celebrate the Ramadhan journey during the first day of Shawal called Eidul Fitri.

I think you should take the "h" out of Ramadan because it makes you look pretentious.

I don't know about other parts of the world, but the daily breaking of fast here is like a celebration with all kinds of food and drinks. EVERYDAY!

Plus you say "breaking of fast." We call it "breakfast" down here below your pedestal:whatever:

Considering that the origin of 'breakfast' came from the breaking of fast after a whole 12 hours of not eating from dinner the previous night to the morning meal the next morning, I'll stick with 'breaking of fast' for those of us up here, if it's all right with you people down there.

^How long you been saving that one?

Happy Ramadan as well to all the muslim hypesters.

Oh, putting yourself above the rest of us, eh? :cmad:

:p

Happy Ramadhan, DM, and to the rest of the Muslim community on the Hype.

Respectfully wishing you a good Ramadan (and a happy Programmers Day too).

That's sound like a pretty easy fast, you're asleep for most of it, most of the world does that normally. I always thought the fasting was supposed to happen during the day while you're awake.

It does, from daybreak to sunset they fast.

DM was just explaining the origin of the word breakfast.

Happy Ramadan to the Muslim members of the Hype.

You thought right. They do fast from dawn til dusk (I'd imagine having to fast in the summer months would be quite a challenge since it doesn't get dark until 9-10 in the evening). Also, from what I know, they not only abstain from food and drink but from sex as well.

How'd the first go/going?

I have a few muslim friends and was talking about with them today

^I wish.
Not all Muslims are terrorists.

Yup, I will be eating food in front of all muslims I know during the daylight hours and offering them snacks etc. It never gets old.

:)
