Sequels Tobey Maguire is still Spider-Man

it'd be nice if a "news site" could spell the subject of its article's name ****ing right. It's been eight years since TOBEY MAGUIRE became a house hold name, seriously how ****ing hard is it to check on imdb?

Anyway, this means that Sony is keeping soft on Maguire and will likely make him an offer by the end of the year and will not begin recasting unless (or until) he turns down the role or prices himself out of range to be brought back.

Seriously though, the writer editorializes with his (mis)understandings of Maguire's acting style and spells his name incorrect. The fact that it is linked to a more credible source is why I'll take this for what it is.

Considering how fast Sony themselves squashed rumors of Fugit being considered made me believe that they still were pushing for Tobey.

Nothing is set in stone of course, but I for one am happy that there is still a chance he'll return.

Great news. And I hope it pulls through. Don't really think I liked either of the previous choices from a couple days ago. Either way, nice for all the rumours to start pouring in. The hype has begun it seems.

This made me happy. I wouldn't mind Fugit as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, but I prefer keeping the same cast above anything else. I like the cast the way it is, and I love Tobey as Spider-Man.

Agreed. The dude IS Peter Parker for me.

Not to me... his best performance was in sm2... and that's it... that's the best movie to me..... and that's the only movie I seen parker in him...... I'd rather than reboot...but I'd also want them to recast.... he doesn't represnt the spidey from the comics at all to me... I read a comic and I don't see TM as the real life spidey... I want someone to be like its straight out if the comic... like RDJ did with Tony Stark/Ironman.... that's the way its suposed to be

I feel TM was perfectly cast for SM1 because you get a equal glimpse of both the nerdy Parker and the heroic Parker, both of which Tobey portrayed magnificently. I think Tobey's performance was good in SM2, but that his character was written perfectly to suit his comic counterpart. The third was also pretty good, but the direction they put his character in seemed to skew away from the what the first two portrayals had created. One can easily argue that MJ and Harry were done well in SM1, but didn't seem the same in the sequels. The possible reasons for this would be either the actor/actress did a lousy job, or the creative team did a lousy job at characterization.

In short Ladies and Gentlemen of the Board, the problem does not lie in TM, but rather the way the character is written. I think each of the actors did the best with the script and lines that they were given, and if there was anything wrong, it begins at the root of the movie, which is the script. After all, it's not like they have Stan Lee or any of the other comic writers for Spidey writing the scripts for the movies. They have Hollywood writers who write for live action. Big difference between between the two, so obviously the character is going to be written differently too.

Meh, and again a boring Peter Parker/Spider-Man for the next 3 Movies. I hope Maguire is tired of the role and declines.

I got kinda bored of Maguire by the end of SM3.

And Sony might want him but he might not want to come back. He has his own production company now.

I'd like a new Spidey, but not a reboot; just a new cast.

I twittered on about all this here, including some references to what the Hypesters want...

No way, you write for the Cov Telegraph! Do you know Dayle Crutchlow? I'm from Cov!

Um... that's because Sony is no where near close to the casting process as of yet... they aren't going to confirm casting changes for a while.

Lmao. It annoys me that people still can't get his last name right..:o

I agree with the new casting idea. I think it is time to take the character to a more mature age group and make the movie more serious. Grow Spidey up a bit.

Good.

Tobey is a fantastic Spidey.

God, I'd wish people would stop suggesting Shia for Spider-Man. He isn't a bad actor at all, but he is so wrong for the character.

I think they want Tobey but I really don't see him coming back unless he comes back to earth and realizes that people like him mostly from being in the Spidey movies not for being in Seabiscuit and Pleasantville, the critics know him from those. Why does he want to move on from the role? I like Tobey but really...he should not throw in the towel. I would like to see Marvel shop for a director after watching the 3rd movie.

If Tobey is quiting the character, whether Sony thinks so or not, he should let the world know so we can consider a new actor.

Bring on Spidey 4 and 5 and bring the heat like the first two did!

if it was just coming back for 4, that would be one thing, but, i really think it would be pushing it to try to get him to return, and shot 4-5 back to back, as has been recently rumored (though that would help alot with the age issue, as after just 4, by the time they finish shoting 5 he'll be almost 40 lol)

Well, this is certainly a turn around from the latest rumors. Of course bringing back the previous cast (especially Tobey) and director would be extremely expensive for Sony. We're talking a movie costing about 300-350M without marketing. Tobey will be the highest paid actor in movie history and his backend deals are going to be huge. Tobey's agent is going to get him a piece of everything with "Spider-Man 4" on it. The real question is, is he worth it? Financially, I'm thinking no.

SM4 would cost a lot less to make (and they could produce a much better film) without Sam Raimi, Tobey and Kirsten. Personally I would love to see Tobey and Dylan Baker/Curt Connors (THE LIZARD) together in the next film. But it seems everyone surrounding the Spider-Man films are too money hungry. They've lost focus, and that is a trend that cannot continue.

I'd like to see them bring the heat a lot better than the first two movies. A much cheaper costing film, less CGI, but a great film that breaks new ground in writing, creativity, action, complexity, intensity, maturity and non-children oriented.
