He's a good actor, but holy crap he cannot pull of a crying scene.

When the entire theater erupts in laughter in Harry's death scene, there's something wrong.

The theater i was in, the audience didn't laugh at that scene, therefor i think youre full of it.

Everyone in my theater laughed as well and it was mostly the ladies who were losing it . . . brutal.

Yea Tobey looks like he himself is laughing whenever he tries to cry.

Some people were snickering during the scene where MJ breaks up with Peter. I personally didn't find it funny.

People were howling during the break up scene.

The break up scene, yes (I didn't think it was that funny, given how much they both put into this), but during Harry's death sscene, no. In fact, most people seemed genuinely upset.

The breakup scene would have been fine if tears just gradually fall down his face during the conversation, instead the second MJ said "it isn't working" Tobey started busting out a barrage of wacky faces. It's not the situations that people are laughing at, it's Tobey.

actually in the theater i was in, a lot of people if not most of them laughed, but mainly when mj is breakin up with pete, at harry's funeral they didnt though

They didn't laugh at the funeral for me either, once again, just when Peter started "crying".

People in my theater laughed both times he cried. To be honest, I thought his crying was very convincing, especially when Harry died.

No one laughed in my theatre, everyone was pretty quiet except for the scene where he knocks down MJ, Stan Lee showing up etc. No one did anything during Pete's crying

People laughed during the break-up scene...the petunia's comment started it...and then Tobey's crying....and some snickering for Harry's bravo comment. Lot of high schoolers at the midnight showing in my town, I think it was more ADD at the 2-hour mark, then bad performances.

bad acting = bad crying.....hey i was pro-Tobey til this pile of uninspired crap they tried to sell me, he DOESNT sell any of the crying.....i liked this guy, but he just did this movie to finish the contract and it showed with these fugly faces he called acting....it wasnt sad cause i didnt believe that it was real, u gotta sell the moment, they didnt.....

I just think it shows how genuinely immature most people are and the kind of expectations people place on a "comic book" movie. I was pretty convinced that he was upset. Any laughter stems from a general disrespect and misrepresentation of the genre.

While people laughed in the theatre, I didnt. I thought Tobey was great during those scenes.

the immature people at my theater laughed...

...but i agree, Tobey cries weird. he's better at acting happy than acting sad.

Everyone in my theatre laughed at Harry's death. Part of it had to do with everyone laughing at Peter crying so much during the movie.

Unfortunately, everyone in my theater laughed during Peter and MJ's breakup, and when Harry died, and at the funeral. I couldn't even focus on the movie because I was too busy trying to ignore the audience. It sucked.

Part of the issue is the facial twitching both he and Dunst do. At times it was so bad it made the scenes unintentionally comical. People have mentioned it before- when he has to emote Tobey reveals his weakest point. Even his angry face doesn't go beyond the contorted look. He's very one-dimensional in execution...not in character, but execution.

And as a sidenote- while it is immature to laugh, I did snicker when it got really bad.

I mentioned this in the review thread...the breakup scene was bad IMO and some people were laughing in the theater we saw the film.:o

For the most part people remained silent during the other crying scenes especially Harry's death and the funeral scene.

Overall i think Tobey is great at onscreen crying i just which there weren't so much of those type of scenes.
