Tobey's crying

He's a good actor, but holy crap he cannot pull of a crying scene.

When the entire theater erupts in laughter in Harry's death scene, there's something wrong.

Everyone in my theater laughed as well and it was mostly the ladies who were losing it . . . brutal.
I think they laughed at that scene because it was kinda like homo, you know? "Hihihi, Peter and Harry are gays! Hihihi!" I heard lots of girl-laughter at my theater in some Peter/Harry scenes...

By the time the butler lectured Harry, everyone in the theater was laughing. There was too much crying, too much lecturing, all laid on way too thick.
Everyone laughed when Harry died. It was very unfortunate.

Although I did react accordingly to what I saw on screen, I will admit that I had to force myself from snickering when Bernerd said, "I loved your father."

That was kinda weird mainly because they never really established who he was...I guess they were going for an Alfred/Batman kinda thing but still...

My Solution to the Bridge Scene:

MJ: I can't see you anymore

Peter: Ofcourse you can see me.... I am standing right here... got you these flowers... I'm with my GF... its a beatiful day.... whats not to see

MJ: I'm sorry Peter... I can't do this anymore

Peter: Are you breaking up with me?

MJ: Yes... Yes I am...

Peter: Look... MJ, I may have neglected you the last couple of months... but there have been some complicated things getting in the between us... from Harry's accident... to the revelation of Uncle Ben's killer...

MJ: It just isn't working anymore Peter

Peter: Look we have come to far to throw it all away like this... I'm sorry if I hurt you in any....

MJ: I have fallen in love with somebody else

Peter: (Silent)

MJ: I'm sorry... goodbye

Peter: (drops the flowers... gets on his knees THEN sobs)

in my theater the audience was laughing during both scenes, but the break up one was the winner in my theater. that was one piece of very bad acting.

Reminded me of you know who from the prequels... Anakin confessing to Padme about the Sand ppl ring a bell... thats how bad Tobey was at times

Same exact thing in my theater. I loved the flick- but Peter breaking down immediately like that was too much. One of the points where Sam and Tobey really missed the mark. but of course- Tobey made up for it in the fight at the mansion. Some of the best acting I've seen from him. "Goblin Jr." Love it.

I think the Tobes is a good blubberer, he makes it look realistic. He doesn't look dramatic or sophisticated when he cries, his face just scrunches up and he weeps like a little kid.

You idiots talking about the bridge scene have OBVIOUSLY never been in love before. If the love of your life broke up with you, you'd be doing the same thing. It was just a reminder that Peter is still very human in a lot of ways. SO seriously shut up.

Overall i think Tobey is great at onscreen crying i just which there weren't so much of those type of scenes.

he is, seabuscuit was amazing
his crying is kind of out of character for him
well not crying, basically crying with weeping
which is what they shouldnt have had him do

everyone laughed at his crying BOTH times i saw spidey....

now THATS sad!

"You don't like my face while crying? Wait till I'm running"

You people have obviously forgotten that goofy face, Tmags makes when MJ notices he has blue eyes in the cafateria scene (sm1). Its just smething he cant help...lol

They laughed HARD at both scenes....the breakup and Harry's death. I was like, oh lord....there goes any amount of emotion they may have been feeling for these characters before. Maguire just cannot do crying well...he did good in part two when he admitted to May about the robber killing Ben, because it was so subtle and that's how most guys actually do cry...here he just started blubbering and it didn't work.

My theater broke out laughing at the break up scene, and broke out laughing when harry died.

Sorry, but tobes was just not good at the crying. And its not because you had immature kids at the theater. people laugh at bad acting, simple as that...

He pulled off a good cry after the Graduation scene in the first one, when he's sitting in his room remembering Uncle Ben. He should have been more like that.

I think some of the issue I had with the crying scenes was how quickly Tobey went from normal then to the extreme in a split second

I mean the breakup scene for example, he was okay then as soon as MJ says "break up" he pulls a complete 180 and is ballin' like a baby.

Now I don't know about other guys but from my own personal experience, when I recieve REALLY bad news or something to that effect, the tears always start out as very subtle before eventually "breaking down".

And also, us guys usually have a tendency to fight the tears (look up, bite your lip, look angry, etc.) and hold it in...not Peter though...when he's sad he LETS you know. :wow:

Tobey went to that extreme from the get-go, no buildup just tears...it was like, "DAMN dude...control yourself!" There was simply a lack of subtlety which is why the audiences prolly found it funny.

Just like this kid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ZKrs-V0vX4

There was some giggling during both the crying scenes at my theater - not terrible though.

Personally I don't think the acting was that bad...though I do think there was something weird about how he did it...idunno, I've always thought there was something a little weird about Tobey's acting.

i thought it was convincing , he cries differently at certain scenes , he was devastated by mj and he cracked a little bit , i guess its funny if you dont give a **** about the character or the story

There was some jackass doing running commentary during the break-up scene, but other then that, the audience didn't laugh for either of the crying scenes. I agree though, he does make a pretty weird face when he does it.
