Tom Hardy to play famed war photographer Don McCullin

Tom Hardy’s latest role is coming into focus.

The Mad Max: Fury Road and The Revenant actor is on board to portray the acclaimed photojournalist Don McCullin in a film adapted from his memoir Unreasonable Behaviour, EW has confirmed.

A London native, McCullin served as a lead photographer at the Sunday Times from 1969 to 1984, and over the course of his career he captured the construction of the Berlin Wall, the war in Vietnam, the AIDS epidemic in Africa, and the Falklands crisis. He also photographed the Beatles at the height of their fame.

Gregory Burke, the Scottish playwright and screenwriter of the 2014 historical drama ‘71, has adapted McCullin’s book, which was originally published in 1990 and updated last year to mark his 80th birthday. Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title are producing the film, along with Hardy and his production partner, Dean Baker.

Hardy earned fine notices for his work in Fury Road and The Revenant, scoring an Oscar nomination for his supporting role in the latter film. He’ll next be seen on the big screen in Christopher Nolan’s World War II thriller Dunkirk.
