Anyone know a good way to stop a toothache, particularly if it's happens suddenly?

Get the liquid Novocaine, worked for me when i broke a tooth once

I had a severely infected wisdom tooth once, the infection moved into my cheek and the inside (of my cheek) swelled up so much it was covering a good portion of the back of that side of my jaw. Every time I even tried to talk I'd end up biting on badly infected cheek flesh (don't even get me started on eating). This lasted about 2 weeks before I could get into a dentist (had to wait for my benefits from work to start).
This point of this entire story is this.
Take Morg's advice, I used the Ora-gel (liquid!!) and it helped A LOT!!! (though near the end I was going through it pretty quickly.
Use the liquid though, I found the gel to not work quite as well.

One word: Orajel.

Anbesol works ok, and you can just go buy it at most convenience stores.

Agreed.

Garlic also seems to be rather helpful.

Make a thread about it.

Oh, you did. Didn't help? Too bad.

methinks we're going to need a medical subforum pretty soon... what with all the medical professionals who post here at the Hype and all...

For infection, warm salt water and hot, unsugared tea work. They should be as hot as you can stand.

Same thing happened to me back in June - it was awful. I had an impacted wisdom tooth that had only partially grown out, and the gums had swollen over it. I lived on protein shakes for a week while I was on antibiotics for the infection, because I could barely open my mouth.

The following week I had 3 of my wisdom teeth pulled, including the impacted one.

Orajel is good for a toothache, and Motrin helps too. And if you can get to a dentist, go.

Also, good old aspirin helps.

I had an infected tooth just a few months ago. Dentist told me I could take 4 ibuprofen. At first I was like wow that's a lot...but it worked.

Thats what I used back when I had a horrible toothache and it kept me from seeing, cause the pain was so much.

Did it alleviate the pain for you?
