Top 10 films of 2011

So, i've just been back through this thread, and not a single person has even mentioned Water for Elephants...

I gotta ask... am I the only one who's seen it, or just the only one who liked it?

I mean, i'm aware I have unsusual tastes, and a lot of people hate Robert Pattinson cause of Twilight (couldnt give a stuff myself)... but it's an lovely story, based on a beautiful book, and I enjoyed it more than any other film this year.

It's a simple story in terms of character expectations, but that's the kind I love. Kind of like Moulin Rouge if it wasn't a musical and had an elephant in it :D

I haven't seen it, but honestly, not that excited to either.

I kinda liked it, not one of my favorite movies of the year though.

My rankings of the films I've seen this year:

Super 8
Rise of the Planet of the Apes
Captain America: The First Avenger
X-Men: First Class
Paul
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2
Bridesmaids
Paranormal Activity 3
Thor
The Thing
Green Lantern
Horrible Bosses
Apollo 18
A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
Cars 2
Battle: Los Angeles
Scre4m
The Mechanic
The Green Hornet
Transformers: Dark of the Moon
Bucky Larsen: Born to be a Star

This year has been rather weak for movies, so it'll be tough to make a top 10 list. From the top of my head, the only film I find worthy is "50/50" with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen.

The hardest part of my top 10 is the 3 superhero movies, which I go back and forth on all the time.

1. Drive
2. Bridesmaids
3. Midnight in Paris
4. Warrior
5. Thor
6. Captain America
7. X-Men: First Class
8. Rise of the Planet of the Apes
9. Hanna
10. Attack the Block

And the rest.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Part 2
Super
Black Death
Ip Man 2
Hobo With a Shotgun
Immortals
50/50
The Adjustment Bureau
Super 8
Fast Five
Hesher
Source Code
The Beaver
Conan the Barbarian
Battle: Los Angeles
Paul
Sucker Punch
Unknown
Transformers: Dark of the Moon
Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides
30 Minutes or Less
Horrible Bosses
Cowboys and Aliens
Green Lantern

I'm pathetically behind this year. I plan on changing this in the very near future. I'm going back to the old film goer I used to be, who saw two movies a week at least.

I'll pick one as the "it" movie of the year for me:

Bellflower

I'm still chewing on it, and I imagine I will be for months to come. It's a film I have to share with people. I want to have long drawn out discussions about it. I know it's a great film in my gut, a film that hit me like bus. But it's one I must return to, share, talk about. I want to crack it.

If that isn't a sign of a great film, I don't know what is.

Number two is Attack the Block.

Drive, Tin Tin, Tinker Tailor, Attack the Block, Thor, X-men First Class, Captain America, Stanley Ka Dubba (it's an Indian art house film... you guys MUST see it, it's such a sweet gem of a film, please watch it... really it's quite superb)

Still need to see Descendants and ides of March and Skin I live in, in the middle of Tree of Life at the moment.

What about Moneyball? or 50:50 or Tyrannosaur?
