I just go by their American release dates. It makes more sense to me, especially within the context of this thread.

I used to go by American release dates, but too often there'd be great films that came out in November/December in the US but not until January/February in the UK, and so I'd miss them when doing my year-end rankings. This way every film gets the chance to be seen and ranked.

I just don't finish my list until Jan/Feb. In fairness, even posters in the states may not have seen ALL the films they wanted to see from 2014 just because it's hit 2015 now, so updating still goes on for a bit, and it's not like people are immediately going to be able to start rating their top 10 of 2015...

Aaaaand Birdman did not disappoint... it was even better than I expected *EDIT - Haven't been able to stop thinking about it since last night... so i'm upping it to first. Still adore GotG and will re watch it regularly throughout my life... but Birdman was the better movie.
