"Total Recall" is totally coming back.

Neal H. Moritz and his Original Films banner are in final negotiations to develop and produce for Columbia a contemporary version of "Total Recall," the 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger sci-fi action movie directed by Paul Verhoeven.

The original, based on the Philip K. Dick story "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale," follows a man haunted by a recurring dream of journeying to Mars who buys a literal dream vacation from a company called Rekall Inc., which sells implanted memories. The man comes to believe he is a secret agent and ends up on a Martian colony, where he fights to overthrow a despotic ruler controlling the production of air.

The movie explores one of Dick's favorite topics, reality vs. delusion, as audiences never knew whether or not the story was a dream. Either way, the movie grossed a very real $261 million worldwide.

Carolco was behind the original movie, which was distributed by TriStar. Dimension picked up the rights for a reported $3.15 million with the aim of developing a sequel. Columbia secured the rights from Miramax, which retained them when Harvey and Bob Weinstein left to start their own company.

Calling Dick's story "prescient," Moritz said he hoped the advancements in technology and state-of-the-art visual effects can help tell the "Recall" story in a fresh way.

Toby Jaffe is overseeing on behalf of Original Film. Matt Tolmach and Sam Dickerman oversee for Columbia.

ANOTHER ONE?? lol...craziness.

i have fond memories of watching the original, but seeing it now-a-days DOES make me wish for a remake. the original was great in itself, but a fresh take would be cool too. like the Never Ending Story remake, i'll remain cautiously optimistic.

The Golden Age of Remakes

Though, I'd like to see where this Total Recall remake goes and how it's done. As long as it's R. If it's rated R...I'm down. Action violence based on Mars...Loved the 1990 version, but I could see a really amazing image remake.

Any truth to the rumor that Krull and Metalstorm: The Destruction Of Jared Syn will be remade??? I mean, I just made that rumor up, but surely its just a matter of time...

lmfao.

We need a remake/reboot forum.

Nostalgia just isnt what it used to be

So the time has come to remake big movies from the 90's now? I wonder when the Jurassic Park remake will come, or the Titanic remake.

Actually, I'm completely for this on one condition. Bring in David Cronenberg. Cronenberg was originally supposed to make the original Total Recall, but had a falling out with the producers. Cronenberg is so completely perfect for Philip K. Dick, its a damn crime that it hasn't happened yet.

Anyone up for a Remake Pool?

Like a dead pool, except you pick 10 movies from the past that you think we be remade, and then whoever has the most points/officially announced remakes in a period of time wins.

i doubt they can find anyone as good as Mel Johnson jr who played "benny".

the guy who wished he had 3 hands!! for that 3 boobed woman!

yipee!

I find it ironic that this is being done by a company called "Original Films."

BULLS**T

After being inspired by your post, I'm gonna start a rumour about a Condorman remake.

Yeah! more remakes! I have so much money, I totally wanna pay for the same movie again. And time, I have even more spare time, a remake should fill 2 hours that would have been totally wasted...

Sooner or later, Hollywood will run out of original films, and would have to resort to remakes of remakes, or adaptations of novelizations from movies adapting books...

I stroke the chin of contemplation on this one......

The production and effects of the whole movie could of course do with an updated and modern twist. Why not right......

But I would worry about who they could bring in to fill those big shoes of Arnies.

I'm stroking it too, mate.

It's nowhere near as bad as some remakes mentioned recently.

I think the themes can be explored more and with a great actor in the lead it may become more of a sci fi piece than a big action movie.

I'm hoping it isn't a shi**y actor with big feet.

Indeed

This type of reality vs. delusion story has been done before and since to some degree anyway so it would not be terrible if it was bad.

Here's hoping
