NO, what's the matter with you?!

We're talking about Indy 4, don't bring your on topic discussion here. :cmad:

Hey now, relax, sailor.

*gives ya a shoulder rub*

double post to make this the 18000th post

This new trailer, in my opinion it is very bad. It doesn't make me want to see the movie unlike other trailers this far.

I think I'll do that. Where can I find Darabonts script at? Everything I heard was that Darabonts story and script were good until Lucas had to come in and ruin it again. Lucas just needs to stay out the writing process and just produce the freakin movie and let the writer(s) and director do there jobs!

Stay out of it Lucas!! :cmad:

Well, I downloaded Darabont's script and I've reached the scene where they clean Indy up from the fridge nuke. The beginning of Indy 4 is (a lot) better, but the cleanup scene is a little worse than Darabont's version.

I hear the big and important difference is afterwards, though, but to be honest, I like the Mutt Williams part and story (that Darabont doesn't include). I'll read the rest of the script and get back here with a more complete opinion.

I presume youd rather have this?

by all means, the mushroom cloud looked good afterwards, however..

That shot was a little odd for me at the time. I think I have a problem with it, not so much the nuke testing idea but just the lingering image of Indy's silhouette in front of a horrible mushroom cloud. It's marrying two totally disparate and inappropriate images together forever, and this becomes very real in the larger consciousness. Think about it as if you were a 7 year old with little to no understanding of what happened in Japan and/or why it occurred. It's puts a weird spin on history and it's not really the same as using Nazi's as stock villains.

Well, I think it was a very good way to show Indy going into an era where things are much more complicated than before, when he was a swinger/adventurer. Tie that with the similar shot when the saucer disappears in the end (and the fact that Indy only observed during the 3rd act), and that pretty much makes a more powerful theme in Indy 4 than the supposed "knowledge" deal.

^ that would been okay if they'd actually pushed it harder though, but they didn't even try. There could have been all kinds of stuff about adventuring in a nuclear armed world, how the rules have changed and how madmen and "villains" become frighteningly real when they can destroy a country with one weapon. But then that's what the Arc of the Covenant was about too, an metaphor for nazis trying to build a bomb that harnesses godlike forces. No to me it wasn't part of any theme or message, it would just a kewl visual and some iconography from the 40's thrown in to sell the 50's period. Anything serious about the nukes or the historical era was thrown out the window when Indy hid in a fridge to save himself from the worst weapon of carnage the world has ever seen and then stood triumphantly in front of its destruction while his theme music played like an ovation. I know it's a just a fun time summer movie but that's just f8cked up, it degrades Indiana Jones as a cinema icon never mind the actual subject matter. If they've treated it seriously like say Terminator 2 that would be a different matter.

I get what you mean and my above post was me trying to desperately find a theme in such a randomly written film, but my proposed theme wasn't the nuclear era. It was something much more personal, about Indy and him alone: Him venturing into different times.

who is Batman fighting in that trailer? The guy looks like a ninja or soemthin

Ok, I read the Darabont script.

He handled the McGuffin much better than Koepp did, and his 3rd act was BRILLIANT.

That having been said... the film was somewhat a rip-off of Raiders and Crusade combined. The overall story of the movie was better and more interesting, but the lazy writing by Koepp regarding the Skull and the whole quest brought it down.

The cameos... well some of them were fantastic and some of them were really idiotic. He kept banging our heads with the "fortune and glory" line.

As far as cheesy moments? Darabont and Koepp are equal. Darabont had no monkeys and gophers, but he had the fridge and the waterfalls. Instead of the monkeys he had a stupid gag with a snake (as I said, the quicksand scene was gold in my eyes. Darabont did something far lamer).

The dialogue was a bit better in Darabont's version, as well. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. Also, some characters were handled better, some didn't. Mac wasn't there, instead there was Yuri, a much better character. Marion was more important, but in Indy 4 we got the son, which is better to me. The villain was also beter in the movie, than in the Darabont script. Ox was a bit better in Darabont's version, though. I'd say that generally, the quality of the supporting characters was about the same (both scripts had ups and downs, as far as this matter is concerned).

The Henry Jones and Sallah cameos were insignificant. Connery wasn't going to play anyway, so it makes no difference. Sallah was just a snatch of a cameo (sings at the wedding).

Lucas made a good and a bad choice. He rejected Darabont's script (good choice), but he didn't keep all the good parts of his script and didn't supervise Koepp enough (bad choice). Who knows, maybe Spielberg was more behind the final script, because he's the one who works with Koepp often (atrocious War of the Worlds comes to mind). Darabont's script followed Lucas's story, and it wasn't bad at all, imo.

All in all? They should've gotten the best of both scripts and we'd have a much smaller division of opinions. But Lucas made more a good choice than a bad one, imo.

Ok, rant over, I'm gonna go back on topic and say that the Alternate trailer feels more complete than the others, but it holds almost no surprises for anyone who's seen the others. But I like it, structurally I find it the best of the TDK trailers so far.

Why are folks discussing Indy on the Batman forums? Normally I wouldn't care, but I could swear for about 2 or 3 pages people were discussing their likes, dislikes, and observations of the film. This thread is to discuss the third DARK KNIGHT trailer..not Indy 4. Perhaps we can make an off topic thread or something? Or these discussions can go to the lounge?

but to be back on topic, yes I believe it is a SWAT officer Batman is fighting in that scene. That clip is shown in many of the tv spots as well and it's rather clear, at least for me, it's a whole SWAT team.

Hey it's a nice changeup and why so worried about getting back on topic about whether or not Batman is fighting a SWAT guy? He is and thats it! No overanalysis needed. It would be nice if there was an Indiana Jones and James Bond forum....but for some odd reason....Bond was taken out??

Hey the fridge and the waterfalls were at least acceptable. The monkeys and gophers were ridiculously inappropriately dumb additions. If Darabonts 3rd act was better...than to me that would have made Indy 4 a better overall movie.....because to me the 3rd act could have been done alot better. The snake/quicksand scene was great!

There is a general movie discussion forum in SHH. But I agree, a little off-topic discussion once in a while won't kill anyone (I hope).
