Transformers Transformer TV-Spot

Just to save me the grief of sorting through all the posts I have missed, can someone confirm what has happened in the last several days. So far I have it as two Spots that are on IGN and the 3 pics from Yahoo, is that all or is there more? Cheers.

other than a few articles that don't hold any REAL news...yeah, that's about it.

Everyone was going gaga over Starscream transforming and jumping on the bridge. It did look cool... even if at the end of the transformation he still looked like a Gobot Renegade instead of Starscream.

Also, Peter Cullen said they've tried to make Optimus speak in more colloquialisms. He's not so stuffy and boring anymore. More like awkward-funny.... like the Terminator or something.

That's about it, I think.

Did anyone notice how quickly Starscream transformed into his robot mode while approaching that bridge-thingy ? It was way too fast........ it seemed unreal... defnitley CGI cheating....

I'm also not sure how well an overpass or bridge would take several tons slamming onto it with that force.... especially on two legs (pressure per square feet thing). They'd be the equivalent of two piledrivers.

It still looked cool tho.

Everybody is trying to be Spider-Man in movies these days.

that didnt even pass by me...

if you really think that much when you see a movie...wow. lol:oldrazz:

Ok, people complaining that there to slow, people complaining that there too fast. You guys never make up your minds. :whatever:

Good grief. :whatever:

This is arguably going to be one of the most difficult uses of CGI in the history of movies...considering it takes the ILM crew 38 hours to complete a single frame, I seriously doubt they're half-assing this film...give em' a break, It looked fine.

Watch it frame by frame. He is in mid-transformation well away from the bridge. Heck, his arms are even already out when he appears on screen. Chillax.

Didn't bother me so much. I was just thinking out loud. But it did seem a bit cartoony. I thought this was one of the very things that kept Fantastic Four from being a better movie.

But, then we've all seen Bay's The Island. So we know just what type of cartoony looks-great-but-incredulous things we should expect.

Starscream's transformation isn't as difficult as the Autobots so it's going to be faster anyway. The majority of his wings are still intact after transformation while all of the Autobots' hoods, trunks and sides of their cars are split apart multiple ways, causing their transformation to last longer. My whole point is, it shouldn't last any longer. They seem to be applying earth technology to the transformations which slow them down. However, these beings are from another planet. A Cybertronian's transformation shouldn't be any different or any slower than how a human being goes from sitting on the floor to fully upright. It's simply a function of their existence, not some hardship that they have to concentrate on every time they do it, and therefore should be more instantaneous not step-by-step.

Lots of people noticed that...mebbe you should pay attention more.

as for the transformation speed...yeah, they did cheat with starscream but I'd prefer that speed of transformation as opposed to what looks like a slow Blackout transformation. Their transformation should be akin to a living movement...natural and at a natural speed. Almost like a human rising from the ground...unless you've got serious issues, it shouldn't take you 5 seconds to rise from the floor.

It's a friggin jet that morphs into an orangutan!

I don't give a flying turd if the transformation is accurate, I want it to look COOL!!!!

Good point. However I apprechiate ILMs effort to make the transformations realistic nonetheless...

let me guess bay or someone from ILM said this right? :whatever:
come on this is to long. this movie coems out this year not in 2 years. :cwink:

lol, I agree...38 hours for one frame is ridiculous. That be 792 days for just 500 frames, and Im pretty sure there will be more than 500 frames of CGI in this movie

Some quick ILM factoids:

HULK (2003) arguably one of their best efforts:
- 6 months to render 36000 frames.
- Avg. frame render time: 4 to 13 hours (depending on the complexity of the shot)
- Hulk model had 100 layers of skin, 1165 muscle shapes
- It took 200 ILM employees and 2.5 million computer hours 1.5 years to produce

Star Wars Ep 3 (2005)
- 170,000 frames
- 750-1500 computers
- 49 seconds of the Mustafar duel took 26 shots, 1185 frames, 910 artists a total of 70,441 hours to render.

Poseidon (2006)
- Opening sequence was 4000 frames (3 minutes of movie time)
- 1 hour for pre-pass, 4-5 hours per frame (7-8 for night shots)
- 5 to 6 days of non stop rendering
- 300 computers used

Hulk in 2003 took up to 13 hours to render some complex shots. Double the CGI models and complexity and I can easy see it being 24 or so hours.. add in pre-pass time and yeah, it sounds about right.

Yes, the 38 hour quote came from Bay in the Empire interview, but no one seems to be contesting it. I wouldn't doubt it given the complexity of the project. He's probably counting pre-pass and design work in that 38 hours.

...considering that it's a blatant lie, unless ILM are still using old 386's...

I don't think it's a lie. What's more likely is that the 38 hours is spread out across a bunch of computers. It's a total of the work done by a group of machines rather than just one.
