Sequels Transformers 6 and future sequels thread

As much as the forest fight kicked ass, I'd have to give that honor to Dark of the Moon for this:

and this:

and this:

DOTM has the best visuals for me. Also, Michael Bay fulfilled my life-long dream of seeing an action sequence involving a falling building with people inside.

I finally saw this today and, Christ almighty, was it bad. Granted, I went in knowing I should only expect a good popcorn flick, but was more annoyed by the recurring franchise characters than anything else. I still think whoever designed these movie robots should be shot. Still have to give it Bay, the special effects are some of the best seen in any movie this year.

Wait to see it at home..

Transformers 5 Drops 82% Friday-To-Friday In China

Forbes June 30, 2017:
'Transformers' Stupendous 82% Friday-To-Friday Collapse Is One For The Record Books
Rob Cain said:
It used to be that a Transformers movie release in China would inspire amazed and incredulous reactions to its awe-inspiring box office feats. For weeks after the debut, fans and analysts would marvel at the latest installment’s record-smashing numbers.

Transformers: The Last Knight is having the same impact this week, but for all the wrong reasons. Its 82.2 percent plunge today from the previous Friday’s $54 million opening (including midnight grosses) to just $8.5 million (RMB 58 million) today is the most spectacular Friday-to-Friday drop I can recall for a wide release in China.

If its daily numbers keep crumbling the way they have, The Last Knight will struggle to make it to $240 million over the course of its PRC release. That may sound like a big number, and it would indeed rank as one of the biggest totals ever for a Hollywood release in the PRC, but even so it would still qualify as a catastrophic shortfall from pre-release expectations. A $240 million Last Knight Middle Kingdom total would equate to a 25 percent decrease in revenue from the last Transformers film, Age of Extinction, which pulled in a then-record $320 million in 2014. The 25 percent drop in the context of China’s overall 50% market growth during that three-year period make The Last Knight’s collapse all the more impressive.

By way of direct comparison, Transformers: Age of Extinction experienced a 60 percent drop from its first Friday to its second. That's about what can normally be expected for films of its scale and genre.

I don’t have access to enough detail from China’s movie history to definitively mark Last Knight down as the worst second-Friday performance ever, but I can offer a few other benchmarks to highlight the sheer magnitude of the Michael Bay sci-fi-actioner's plunge.

In North America, where data is more readily available, I’ve been able to identify only 5 wide releases of 2,000 screens or more that saw bigger Friday-to-Friday drops than The Last Knight.

These include the Ben Affleck-Jennifer Lopez bomb Gigli, which fell 85.3 percent on its second Friday from a $1.45 million opening day on the prior Friday. The 2009 remake Friday the 13th fell even a bit more, 85.5 percent from its $19.3 million debut. In 2002 Star Trek Nemesis suffered an 83.6 percent drop, and just this past weekend the Tupac Shakur bio-pic All Eyez on Me suffered an 85 percent second-Friday collapse.

Most interestingly, the 2010 low-budget horror flick The Devil Inside crumbled by 83 percent from its $16.8 million Friday debut on 2,551 screens to just $2.7 million on the following Friday. But I doubt the filmmakers lost any sleep over it. Their little $1 million budget film wound up grossing $53 million domestically and another $48 million overseas. We should all be so lucky.

Went and saw this yesterday. I actually walked out at probably the halfway point. Bad , just bad. How do you rate a movie you walked out on? A 1 out of 10 maybe.

I think in a straight up fight Optimus will always beat Megatron because I think he really is physically stronger, but Megatron tends to be a pragmatist and sucker punch a lot.

In T1 Megatron was stronger
But in T2 he was weaker, Optimus beated him easily, as same as DOTM
In AOE Optimus could beat Galvatron with difficulties, before Lockdown interfered

Megatron always sucked after his dead in T1, and always escaped when Dinobots come to fight

You do get a few shots of Hong Kong in the film, so there's that.

Megatron was a beast in the first one, but there were also a lot of complaints about Optimus getting his ass kicked. That's probably why he was so almost unfairly overpowered in the rest of the films while Megatron was made considerably weaker.

Ah yes, I forgot about those since they really were blink and you miss it shots.

Just came from watching it in IMAX 3D today. Honestly I don't understand the hate the movie is getting. I enjoyed it. Loved the action. Didn't bore me at all and I found it very entertaining. Quite frankly I thought the story for this movie was very easy to follow unlike DOTM or AOE (although I still enjoyed both of those movies). Anyway I give this movie 8/10 stars. I hope we do get a 6th movie and at the very least, let Michael Bay produce and let someone else direct and continue the storyline that TLK planted at the end of the movie.

I would like a sixth movie with Unicron (been waiting to see him in live-action for ages) before maybe rebooting.

Heck, you could even do the soft-reboot thing with the Bumblebee movie and build another Transformers universe from then on. Of course, that would require actual effort and thought put into the continuity, at least.

So with a $217 million budget and the China collapse is this going to lose money?

Eh, I've been dying to see Unicron in live action myself, but if they're just gonna go the Earth route, I'd rather they skip it altogether.

The problem is, Bay made Prime too overpowered (Bumblebee as well). There are very few instances I can count after the first movie where Prime was truly near defeated by another cybertronian's hands.

I was really disappointed with his fight against Infernocus in TLK.

Well, he was actually killed in ROTF. Given he had just taken on a horde of Deceptions, and he was basically sucker punched while he was looking for Sam. I'd say he was in genuine danger a few times, but the main protagonist isn't ever gonna be in true danger unless they're willing to shake things up majorly and bring in Rodimus or some equivalent.

Optimus being 'killed' is one of the few instances I was referring to.

Him defeating Infernocus so easily in The Last Knight is another good example of how overpowered he became in this series.

I really hope they don't go the Rodimus route. Especially the way the have set Hot Rod up in TLK.

I went in with no expectations & I actually liked it better than DOTM & AOE.
I've watched it twice so far & I really really dislike the Arrested Development guy. I wish in movies they would stop with the condescending scientist/engineer role. The actor played it way over the top in that aspect. Cringe worthy to say the least.

The movie felt very very long. That made me sad because I like long movies, but when I notice they are long, that's usually not good. But most of it was entertaining. For me anyway.

The scientist guy served no purpose other than to give off exposition and act annoying.

Which you could argue that's what Anthony Hopkins did in this, but imo even he's phoning in a performance he's still great. Plus, I actually liked his character and Cogman. Those two were the highlights of the film for me.

I did like scientist guy getting pissed at the a-hole government guy who kept dismissing his findings.

"A threat? No...a threat MIGHT kill you. This WILL kill you....in three days."

So,
when do we think Sam and his parents died if this woman is the last surviving member of the Witwicky "clan"? I mean, that's pretty much the only possible explanation right?

I don't remember an explanation for Sam's absence in Age of Extinction. So I guess that was supposed to be it.

I would have liked the scientist guy a bit more if he was missing a hand.

I really hope they don't go the Rodimus route. Especially the way the have set Hot Rod up in TLK.

If they went that route, they'd almost certainly set up Bumblebee to be the new leader.

Scratch the 'almost' and keep the 'certainly'.

Have any of you guys read Lorenzo Di Bonaventura's recent comments about Quintessa's origins? 'Cause it's a major reason why he also needs to get pushed away from the franchise as far away as possible.

What did he say?

"You never know, that's part of what the discovery is gonna be. But actually, if you look at the mythology, the mythology of The Quintessa is that she very well and was probably human. So when you go back in time and go through that 6 billion years of mythology, there's certainly a current of thought within it that says she was a human character and perhaps was actually the first one who built the Transformers. So ironically, if that's accurate, then humans built Transformers."
