Comic-Con: 'Transformers' Animated Series Coming to Machinima (Exclusive)
The series will be based on the 'Combiner Wars' toy line and comic books.
Borys Kit said:
The Transformers are coming to Machinima.

Hasbro, the toy company now play brand, has partnered with the online gamer and video platform to produce a new animated series based on its Transformers: Combiner Wars line.

Combiner Wars is a storyline that has been playing out across Hasbro’s toys and IDW comic books for the past year and the upcoming Activision video game Transformers: Devastation.

Insiders say it’s the first time these synergistic elements have been combined by Hasbro to tell an overall story.

Additionally, Habsro is creating something a segment of its large Transformers audience has been demanding for years: an animated series aimed at an older audience.

“Our audiences are huge fans of the toy, comics, movies and video games, and for us to continue the legend with the Combiner Wars is a unique story-telling opportunity,” said Daniel Tibbets, Machinima's chief content officer.

Said Hasbro’s senior vp of the Transformers franchise, Tom Warner: “[Machinima is] the perfect partner to help launch a totally new kind of Transformers animation — one that, for the first time ever, is specifically designed for the teen and adult fans who’ve grown up loving the Transformers brand.”

Without going too deep into the complexities of the Transformers universe, Combiner Wars saw groups of Transformers interlock to form one giant robot, known as a Combiner. Superion and Menasor were among the new robots that held the fate of the Transformers’ home world, Cybertron, in their hands.

TRANSFORMERS TEAM TALKS "WINDBLADE," NEW FEMALE CHARACTERS

Machinima Transformers: Combiner Wars 8 Episode Cartoon Coming July, Show Summary Revealed
Taking place 40 years after the great war on Earth, Transformers: Combiner Wars introduces new lore and all-new characters that, combined with the characters fans have known for decades, will bring the Transformers storytelling in a new direction.

The Autobots and Decepticons have disbanded and returned to Cybertron. With the days of Optimus Prime and Megatron over, Cybertron is now ruled by a triumvirate. However, an ancient technology has enabled a new threat, the power for multiple Transformers to combine into one massive, dangerous form: Combiners. Who will stand-up to this threat to ensure that the fragile peace that was 4 million years in the making remains?

I enjoyed it. A lot of people complaining about it... It's only 5 minute episodes. It's hard to get a deep story with 8 five minute episodes. The writing could have been better... but eh. I enjoyed it. I'd like to see a full blown series with this tone.

I watched this series last year and almost forgot it exited until recently. I know it was low budget and all, but I don't feel it's hyperbole to say that Combiner Wars was probably one of the worst pieces of storytelling media I've ever had the displeasure of sitting through. The voice acting ranged from tolerable to atrocious. I didn't hate Jon Bailey as Optimus as much as I thought I would, but for some reason all of the Decepticons sounded like teenagers with lisps. There was no actual combining in the entire series (aside from ol' Dormammu at the end). Any kind of backstory for the plot or characters was vague or nonexistent, and the storyline and character reasoning was nonsensical. The whole thing felt like a bunch of cliches written around '86 movie references.

There was one single moment I enjoyed. Just watch up until the 26:48 mark: https://youtu.be/CGX5qN4947A?t=1579

Sort of. A problem with the Transformers brand is that there is a lot of stuff labeled "G1", but that doesn't mean it all necessarily fits in the same timeline. So yes, this series (and toyline) is technically G1, but it may or may not take place in the same timeline as the '80s cartoon, or the Marvel comics.
