The Last Knight Transformers:The Last Knight Official Thread

When all is said and done, they will have done it a million times better.

Tell me something that ain't obvious.

Still planning on checking this out. Hopefully it's at least better than the trainwreck that was Age Of Extinction.

That is my only gripe with these things, is that Bay doesn't know quite when to end it. After like two hours and 10 minutes you're like, "well they should be wrapping up the final battle soon, then its another half hour of ********.

Yeah AOE was like 2:45 hours :wow:

Same running time as The Dark Knight Rises, right?

You do know Transformers: Prime did this plotline, right?

And you do know that this is the film thread and I was probably referring only to the film universe and this crosses the line with any realism or believability established in it (as far as realism can be established in these series).

Not all Transformers fans have seen the Prime cartoon, so I assumed you hadn't.

Not sure how I feel about that particular spoiler, I mean wow. I never saw the cartoon but what a twist! I guess that's why we "love" these movies :hehe:

A couple of letterboxd reviews (here be spoilers)

https://letterboxd.com/film/transformers-the-last-knight/reviews/by/activity/

Even IMAX couldn't save this.

I wanted to like this so much. I really did. I genuinely love the first film, but this was almost unbearable. It opens with what feels like the third act of an entierly different film, and then the film decides to continue this trend by making many scenes feel like the third act of something else. Its due in part to the music which is mostly generic final battle music and THE CHARACTER INTRODUCTIONS which Bay decided for some unknowable reason that every time a new character enters (there are far too many characters in this. Like for no reason too if you take out every human except Cade, Hopkins and the British girl, you'd have the same film just with a bearable runtime), they must be introduced as if the film was going to end right there leading onto a sequel.

These criticisms aren't even near the biggest problem. Oh my God is the plot awful. Like its so far up its own ass at this point its emerged out its chest like a chestburster then goes back in. Its absolutely ridiculous. Theres one moment when they go back to WW2 (FOR NO ****ING REASON OTHER THAN TO GO "remember the first film? Yeah you liked all that? Go **** yourself") which is when I knew I hated this film. Its so convoluted I dont even think Bay knows whats going on. Oh and just so you know they decided to make loads of historical figures autobots. In this film LEONARDO DA ****ING VINCI (among others) IS A ****ING AUTOBOT. Who thought this was a good idea.

This isnt even mentioning the forgotten plot points here, my favourite being a half hour scene which is literally suicide squad with decepticons. At the end of this half hour we never hear about this agaim and im pretty sure they just went free. Like thats a thing that happend here.

But dont worry, you're still in for some good robot on robot action. Oh wait no your not. You're in for a bunch of people trying to say things that make no sense, then a few brief hits from transformers then back to talking.

Honestly I hated this. I laughed once and that was when Mark Wahlbergs Cade Jaeger said "I'm an inventor" I still dont believe that one bit though im sure Wahlberg does.

Please dont pay to see this film (or just dont see it, youd be doing yourself a favour), we dont need more of this.

I got to see a preview of the film, and I wasn't expecting too much. In fact, what I got just might have been the most story, shots, and plotlines with multiple Point of Views from at least 10 different characters which all mish-mashed together a story involving...Transformers fighting each other to obtain a staff that, for some reason, is needed to restore Cybertron to life. Somehow, this intertwines with the many, many human and robot characters we meet throughout this film, some of whom appear then disappear for no reason apart from being needed in the action when necessary. In this one 2 hour 29 minute film (which I had sworn felt longer) we got: War zone battles, the sexualization of a 14-year old girl (which I was really uncomfortable with), an oppressive government task force lead by Mr. Fergie, Native American jokes, a bunch of London car chases, quite a surprising amount of sex jokes, Optimus Prime being evil for a while before getting better with the Power of Friendship (TM), King Arthur and Transformer knights, a Submarine battle (!!??), a psychotic robot butler and a third act that's reminiscent of Saving Private Ryan with none of the subtlety and finesse of that particular film...I have no idea how I should approach this film. It just feels like one insane action ride with no sense of tone, story, or even letting scenes breathe before getting started with the next action-packed sequence. This might be one of the craziest, most chaotic movies I've ever seen. It will definitely make over a billion dollars, no doubt.

My favourite part: Anthony Hopkins saying straight to the camera..."Isn't it a bi***ing ride"?

:csad:

I mean, I really thought that writers room will help something... or something... I don't know. :whatever:

You could have a Michael Bay movie with a script written by Mario freaking Puzo and it would turn out crap.

Once he gets his fingerprints all over a script, there's not gonna be much depth or anything of substance.

And I say this as someone who likes these movies as guilty pleasures (minus AoE), but that is pretty much the truth when it comes to his movies.

Didn't this guy work on Armageddon and The Rock? I loved those movies. Is he on drugs or something?

Those guys wrote the first iron man so I was sure we'd get something coherent.

so I guess the big planet looking this in this movie is probably Cybertron not Unicron? Dang

From Forbes:

TF5's lackluster ticket presales numbers suggest that the record books aren’t about to be re-written. In fact, if the early pre-opening sales trend holds, The Last Knight won’t even come close to taking bragging rights as the highest-grossing film of 2017, let alone all-time. While it's still far too early to predict with any certainty, box office watchers shouldn't be too surprised at this point if the fifth film in the franchise doesn't even match the fourth film's grosses.

Precisely 72 hours before its midnight Thursday China release begins, Last Knight's presales were running at barely half the level that Fate of the Furious (aka "Furious 8") had enjoyed in the run-up to its PRC debut a few months ago on April 14th. The presales numbers for midnight screenings on one prominent sales site stood at 8.4 million RMB for TF5 versus 17.2 million RMB for Furious 8. Presales for Friday and Saturday screenings were running similarly far behind those of Furious 8, at 29.1 million RMB for TF5 versus 62.2 million for Furious 8 on Friday, and 16.1 million for TF5 versus 28.1 million for Furious 8 on Saturday.

Maybe the streak is over and we can finally get some fresh blood directing these things. I seriously think Bay was like, since this is my last one **** it...I'm just gonna throw a bunch of **** at the screen, more than usual I mean.

For more clarity

Fate of the Furious opened to a spectacular $193 million 3-day debut weekend and finished with $392 million, the second highest box office total in Chinese history after The Mermaid. Things can change swiftly in the fickle PRC market, but as things stand now it looks like it will be a stretch for Transformers: The Last Knight to top $150 million in its opening weekend and $330 million for its total run. That would be far short of the $382 million that one Chinese investor told me distributors are guaranteeing to the film's financial backers.

I was going to post this. :woot:
Just the title of the video made me laugh. He really took it apart... The videos are just gold.

I am interested in how Stuckmann will tear it apart. I smell a Hilariocity review.

Perhaps Bays much vaunted writers room would have worked if it was full of fans creating their own stories.
