HARVEY DENT / TWO-FACE (Some Spoilers)
We all know that because of the death of District Attorney Carl Finch Gotham City must elect a new DA. Who will this be? Harvey Dent, of course. I personally feel that Harvey Dent's abusive past should not be shown in detail. Maybe have one of his friends tell a supporter that as a child he was abused by his father but miraculously escaped the torment as a hero. Assistant District Attorney Rachel Dawes has fallen in love with Dent and eventually they become engaged. Harvey Dent, with a face of flint, fights the criminals of Gotham (including Salvatore Maroni and The Joker). Now what does Joker do about this? Well he personally finds a way to stop him by raiding Bruce's penthouse during a party and threatening to kill Rachel. Harvey is powerless to stop him, but suddenly Batman arrives to save the day. However, despite Batman's attempts, Joker throws Rachel out the window. Batman jumps to save her and succeeds. Harvey Dent now comes down harder than ever on Joker and almost destroys his operations. The whole while Joker sees the mob's power weakening and weakening due to Dent's campaign. Now Joker is a cunning person with some foresight. He knows that if the mob is taken out then all the heroes in Gotham City will focus fire on Joker. Knowing this he comes before all the mob bosses of Gotham (big bosses and small leaders). Joker convinces them that Batman must die and Joker decides to "help" them (but what the mob bosses don't know is that Joker owns a big deal of their money due to many robberies of mob banks).
A war breaks out in Gotham as Batman, Harvey Dent and the GPD (who are against Batman, except Gordon) fight off Joker and the mob. Throughout the city Joker takes his own goons, places them in fake Batman suits and hangs them or kills them in some horrific way to send subliminal messages to the real Batman to watch his back. At some point Joker is captured and put in an interrogation room and interrogated by Batman, Gordon and Rachel (Gordon and Rachel watch from outside the room as Batman mentally looses it and brutally beats Joker near to death). This is when Joker tells Batman that the only difference between the both of them is Joker is willing to kill... Batman then realizes he's becoming no different than Joker! Joker is put in prison as the detectives talk about the condition. Miraculously Joker escapes.
Where does Scarecrow fit into all this, you ask? Well his experiments with toxins lead him to a very dangerous acid that he planned to use as a weapon. Batman killed Scarecrow, but Maroni found his acid. Maroni supplies Joker with this acid as he waits for Harvey Dent to take his bait. What's the bait? Joker has two barges. On one barge is all the low-life criminals of the city, but placed alongside them is Rachel Dawes. On the other barge are all the higher class citizens of Gotham (including Dent). Both barges are rigged with explosives.
Now personally I feel that Batman's sense of responsibility outways those like Spider-Man (who jumps for MJ first and the children last). Batman tries to save the upper class citizens first and the low-lives (and Rachel last). Joker pushes the button and the barges explodes! Yes Batman has saved hundreds of good citizens (including Dent, and maybe even Alfred and Gordon) but he has lost Rachel!
By this point Joker has discovered Batman's identity. Joker manages to start a fire in Bruce's penthouse (on the outside the fire forms the shape of the bat symbol). Batman jumps out of the window of the penthouse towards the streets, gets on his batpod and begins the chase sequence after Joker in the truck. Finally the truck is wrecked and the fight ensues on the streets by foot. The GPD and some of Joker's goons join in the chase... Finally Joker is captured and brought to the asylum (famous first Joker-shot of the 2nd trailer)... That night Maroni bails Joker out by force. Harvey Dent learns of this and goes to Maroni's warehouse. There he personally tries to kill both Joker and Maroni, but he is overcome. Joker throws acid on him (but it only hits half his face).
Having gone through the death of his fiance as well as the burning of his face, Harvey Dent spends a whole night without sleep as demons enter his life (as it seems). Dent becomes emotionally unstable as he decides to become a vigilante who will do ANYTHING to bring down a criminal (including Batman, who he blames for Rachel's death). Like Batman, Harvey Dent takes down Maroni with such class and swiftness that it's shocking! In a final scene Gordon and some of the GPD go to stop Dent, but Batman has already arrived. Before Gordon and even Batman arrive, however, Dent has met Joker and almost killed him, scarring his face worse than before (he now has a scar on his forehead as well as on his throat). Joker's jacket is ripped up and blood runs down his face as Dent fights him. It seems Dent has found Joker's weak point but then Batman arrives. Using his brains Dent manages to wound Batman and then Gordon arrives. He sees what Dent has done and it takes 5 men to hold Gordon back from putting a bullet through Dent's head! Batman crawls away wounded as Dent shoots the cops one by one until all that's left is Gordon. "You always said the Gotham Police was corrupt" says Dent. But because Dent has respect for Gordon he doesn't shoot him, he just turns around to shoot Batman. Gordon takes out his gun and shoots Harvey Dent in the leg sending him down to the ground. "Judas! You backstabbing fugitive! You're just a two faced freak!" says Gordon before shooting his right arm (with the gun in it). This dis-arms Two-Face. Batman escapes and Gordon goes to look for Joker but he cannot be found! He has disappeared (leaving some Joker cards behind). Gordon spares Dent (he cannot bare to kill him completely).
By the time this film has ended Bruce Wayne has rebuilt his mansion and Lucius has a Batmobile in production (he knows Batman's identity). Bruce also makes mention of a girl he dated named "Vicky Vale" (who will be introduced in Batman 3 played by Mika Boorem). Edward E. Nygma is discussed about in a Wayne Enterprises meeting...
In the final scene Batman and Gordon are on the roof talking about Two-Face.
