The Dark Knight Two-Suits???

Half and Half

  • Yes – Has to be half and half.

  • No- Tommy Lee ruined the half and half. Take him to The Mens Warehouse.

  • Doesn’t matter as long as his face is scared and he has a coin.

The half and half suit is stupid and would look horrible on screen - but if Nolan could pull it off, fine.

So I vote indifferent.

I'm with Two Face(user). To entirely dismiss it as stupid is...stupid. But then you say "If Nolan could pull it off", just how could he pull it off if it would "look horrible on screen"? Somewhat of a contradiction, isn't that. I'm sure you've read Long Halloween, and Harvey's split suits in there work just fine, and on the other hand, in Batman Forever it looked terrible. I'm sure if they went with a more subtle look like a slightly different color tone or as others have said, half of his suit just looking mutilated, it could work nicely. And with that said, it's not necessary to the character at all, so either way if fine.

PErsonally, I think something like the suit in Long Halloween:

Also, I'll be very irritated if we don't get that line with Mr. Face

Here's what I said about the two-toned suit earlier in the thread:

Yes, it's a staple. But to me, I think it's become one of these things where people just accept it because it's so established, and think that it's essential to the character without really THINKING about it.

When Two-Face was first created, he was one of many "gimmick villains". Post-Crisis, "The Long Halloween" and other stories did a lot to make Two-Face a darker, grittier character. But to me, the two-toned suit is one of the last remnants of that corny "Rob 2 million dollars with 2 henchmen from the Second National Bank at 2:22pm on February 2nd" era. I was thankful that Tim Sale at least toned down the gaudy orange/purple combo to a more stylish black/grey. I'm happy with them keeping that in the comics.

But as far as the movie adaptation goes, I'm all for ditching the two-tone suit. Arguing that it's crucial to the character is like arguing that grey tights with black undies is crucial to the character of Batman, which movies like "Batman" and "Begins" of course showed was not the case.

Batman's suit serves a very specific purpose. As did Scarecrow's mask. Harvey wearing a two sided suit is completely pointless.

yeah i thot that too.

AND

i also DO NOT WANT him to have two assistants, with one good and one bad.
the whole drew barrymore and (forgot her name) serving two kinds of food, in a room that had two main color themes, etc.. It's nice that BMForever went for the old 60s camp feel, but it was JUST TOO MUCH.

and regarding the batman forever twoface...
wow, talk about copious amounts of acid.

I agree, I never considered him a costumed villain, but a tragic disfigured man making life and death decision by flipping a scarred coin. Half his suit, the top part could be damaged from the acid.
I wonder if lookwise they are going to go "the man without a face" way or create something different and new ?

Yeah, I just read the Long Halloween (really behind on reading material :csad:) and it was handled well in that book.

I guess I am split (haha pun) on this issue. Seems to me Nolan would be more subtle about it. Like you say, half of the suit would probably be mutilated while the other half pressed and perfect. I think that would work.

We didn't get a full on Scarecrow (yet...?) and we probably will never get a full on villain...and what I mean by that is the costume and everything, although the Joker may be or come to being the exception. But I can probably live with that if they nail the character and make him a challenge to Batman.

I agree. As I had put it earlier, Nolan is trying to make the villains as visually simplistic as possible but put more depth into the characterizations. I personally think it's very similar to Singer's X-Men. He gave them all dark colors, nothing that really stands out, and Nolan is doing the same. He doesn't want anything too gimmicky with Joker being the only exception. Joker is the only character we have so far that is just "out there" in the visual department, and even he is wearing dark purple and a trench coat, not a flamboyant suit in every other scene like Nicholson.

maybe I'm overanalysing this one, but when you think about it; wouldn't the half of the suit w/ the injured face be the clean side, and vice versa?

for Two reasons: the right hemisphere of your brain controls the left side of your body and vice versa . . . and (if Two-Face can see out of the bad eye), wouldn't that eye tend to naturally look at the other side of the suit and vice versa? I'm sure I'm just splitting hairs here, but think about it . . .

What do you mean, that suit? In the comics, Two Face's suits are constantly different.

Same place Scarecrow got his ugly ass potato sack mask.

Completely agree.

Who made Scarecrow's potato sack?

I want to see one like in LH

I always thought all of his half/half suits looked rediculous. If they are going to do his suit like in the comics, I hope it's the TAS suit. It's easily the best looking one.

I can not think of a way for the Two Face Two Suit to come off well on screen. However if Nolan can make it look good - then great. That is what I was getting at.

You can not look at a comic book, especially one drawn by Tim Sale, and use that to justify a visual decision for a live action movie.

I think that one you quoted of me looks great. And if you think it looks ridiculous, what do you think of a clown with big red lips who wears purple?

I can use it as a basis for what I think it would look like. Look at the action figure a few posts up, I really like the look of that split suit. What do you think of it? jw

i bet we wont even get to see 'the suit' if there is one. he may just be on screen as two face for a brief moment at the end.

Why? too unreal for you? Joker without the purple suit just wouldn't look right and Nolan knows that.

Jokers purple suit also looks good on screen, while Two Face's Two Suit would look horrible. Thats why I dont want it - I couldn't give a damn about realism/nonrealism.

Truthfully - not a big fan. If they want to have a two tone suit, have one half pressed, clean and sparkly.

The other half wrinkled, dirty and perhaps spattered with blood.

ah, ok. I've heard that way a few times too.
The Joker is suppose to be flamboyant.
Flamboyant doesn't have to equal ridiculous.

The guy I quoted said all split suits look stupid then went on to say the only one he wants is TAS split suit.

A dark tone split suit doesn't have to look ridiculous(which is what the guy thinks) yet he wants a TAS suit. If anything, the TAS suit would look more ridiculous than a two tone dark suit.

That I like! One side not kept or treated well. That side of his personality not caring about how well his suit looks since he has other things on his mind.

Yeah but How would want him to look? full suit? It doesn't need to be realism or non-realism, sorry but he needs have Two suit.

As long as he's suitably scarred and has the coin, I'm not too bothered by the half and half suit.

half-suits are great for comics, but just look silly in real life or in the movies.

Two Face needs to have a scarred face. Outside of that I really don't care. Just make him look good, make him look imposing, make him not laughable.

Well we have Nolan not ****maker, this is like saying "Batman can fight without his batsuit he will be fine"

No, its like saying "Batman can have a Batsuit that's not grey tights with black undies on top," and low and behold, as the films have proven, he can.
