Anyone read or reading this? I think it's a good concept but with Bendis writing it, the 1st issue was kind of meh-ish. Anyone share the same sentiment?

Never Meh with Greg Land and lotsa hotties.

maybe a stupid question but I'll ask it anyway, who was the team that they showed at the beginning of the issue? Are they a group of villains from the squadron supreme universe or ultimate versions of some 616 team?

Most of them are from the B.A.D. Girls, I know that much. Mercenaries with a snake theme. Black Mamba, Asp, Diamond Back. I don't know who the rest are, but they are based on 616-goodness. Althought... was that story really necessary? couldn't we have told that six-page fap-fest over as a one shot in normal UFF and then just picked up there at the briefing Reed held with Fury.

It just seemed like a cover that promised to dive into the cross-over action and goodness, and failed to deliver entirely.

They where a complete waste of time in my opinion, and its typical of Bendis having the only thing in the slight bit relevant to the plot happening on the last page. The idea of a Supreme Power/Ultimate crossover is brilliant in concept, but i can tell already that it will sink like many of the other big Ultimate events (i.e. Ultimate War, Ultimate Galactus).

Its when I read posts like this that I really begin to wonder about the reading skills of the world in general.

A quick break down of how the first issue worked:

-fight scene
-ben gets injured in fight scene
-injury makes reed redouble his efforts to cure ben
-reed needs more information so wants to explore the surrounding dimensions
-fury says no (sets up the standard "tampering with forces beyond our ken" type plot)
-reed does it anyway and sends some probes out
-(guesswork here) the squadron supreme discover a probe and follow it back.

The entire issue was relevant to the plot. You may like it or dislike it but to say it was irrelevant is beyond ignorant.

If people read the work then made up their minds instead of vice versa life would be so much easier.

I'm disappointed in my lunch.

I mean come on, six bucks for a ****ing sandwich and you can't even remember the hot peppers? What a rip!

I'm curious as to how Nighthawk joined the Squad. Didn't dude refuse to join them in their comic? I think this comic has potential but Bendis tends to drag his comics into the soap opera area and waits til the final issue before we see a confrontation. As I stated earlier, this issue to me is meh-ish but i'll continue to read the arc.

The general reading skills of the WORLD, based on my ability to interpret a comic ? Its hardly the Bronte sisters or Jane Austin ?

Maybe the word i was looking for unnecessary instead of irrelevant. Either way, its wasn't exactly what i call 'cutting edge' literature !

Kinda my point actually.

Don't underestimate your importance ;)

Perhaps but 99% of stuff in comics could be derided as unnecessary.

I'm interested in seeing this turns out when it comes to tpb...how many issues is it? Has there been any fights between the squadron supreme and any ultimate heroes yet?

I disagree, I hardly regard 99% of JMS's Supreme Power serries as 'unecessary', as with Millers Ultimates serries or Bendis's Ultimate Spiderman. All of which are going to intrinsic to the fourthcoming plotline.

I dont even know what you are trying to get at here, although im quite sure you are suceeding at being pretentious !

In what way was supreme power necessary and the first issue of this series not? (note, i'm not criticising superem power thought it was great)

As far as I see it supreme power provided the characters and this issue provided the reason for meeting up.

No, not at all. The guy at my store let me take a copy no charge, mostly because he owes me some comics from like 2 months ago still.

The first issue was pretty much all build up. It'd be interesting to see where it goes from here. Although, I wonder why Nighthawk, an uncontrolable, non powered vigilante would join a government squad designed to fight threats too big for conventional forces. And I wonder why the government would let him join.

The government will eventually want him, and he'll probably join for some reason to probably monitor the Squadron Supreme or something.

Either way. It's a build up. Liked the fight scene, good use of the girls translation, the looks were cool. But I wanted to see some action between the two premier teams. Despite the fact they're also meant to have other superhumans and such other than the FF.

But they can monitor the team themselves. And Nighthawk is a loose cannon, overly violent vigilante with authority issues. That, plus government, = bad.

Who's the leader of the SS? Can't be Hyperion, he's not a leader. Ha! I'm lookin for between a fight between Hype and Thor, Cap and Nighthawk, and Spidey and the Blur.

That, like the 616's government, is not really an issue. They don't seem to care WHO'S on the team, as long as there are results.

But that's really really stupid. Not only would Nighthawk not want to be on the team, but if he were, the only result would be a major disobediance of orders and probably a few bodies the government doesn't want on the pile. There's no role on the team that Nighthawk could fill that a special ops agent could not also fill. And a special ops agent would follow orders.

Kyle has already rejected the offer to join. i don't know why he would be with the team. but why wouldn't the government want him? he's a tactical genius and an experienced operator. keep in mind that he has no powers but has been a successful vigilante for years; a one man SWAT team. they might not consider him a big a threat as Hyperion but he could definately hurt them, if provoked. remember that he took out two operatives they sent after him, already. Kyle's also the one who came up with the idea on how to disable Redstone.
