Ok here is my solution.

There are clearly 3 categories of people that are discussing this show:

Category 1: People who seem to love this show. Well good for you, you are easily pleased enjoy the ride, the jokes, the 4th wall breaking and have a great time.

Category 2: People who hate this show beyond belief, and ca't and will not enjoy, and have either boycotted the show or they are about to. I say its good tot ake a stand and quiting watching this how might lead to its cancellation further down, which is what you probably want.

Category 3: Which in my opinion has the most of the meber discussing or lurking this boards including me. We hate this show yes, we find it obnoxious, unfunny, untrue to what spider-man is. And even though we like the animation, some of the jokes, it still feels juvenille and leaves a bad tatse in our mouths. do we want it cancelled, not really but we want it to get fixed and be a better show. We keep watching it because we hope it will finds its ground, fix its mistakes and give us a god spidey show.

For this last category i say let your voice heard. Tell the creators of the show what you feel is wrong about it so they can fix it for the next season. However, people from this category will soo be part of category 2 if each time they give the show a chance it disappoints them, which may lead to an early demise of ultimate spidey.

I did the same and told them that i dont want this show cancelled but it needs to get better, it needs more drama, WAY less 4th wall breaking and needs to respect the spidey character.

Not really.

I am done with the show. I gave it a chance and right now i think it is clear that it is not for me, and i am from category 3. I watched the previous episodes just trying to prove myself wrong, but after yesterday's ep im done.

I can't wait for the spiderman episode on avengers EMH, where i know he will be treated better than in this abomination of series.

Also, this makes me feel quite uneasy about HULK and the agents of smash, which, unlike ultimate spider-man, i hated its premise (i mean hulk and 5 other hulk like creatures? they will have to fight galactus on every episode to have a reason to get all of them together, maybe the show will be the first to show us that galactus has brothers and sisters, so each time they will have to fight one of the siblings. cmon thing about it Galactus and his 3 brothers: Tartagus, arachnus, and larry )

I have read all you said very carefully and I have reached a not-so-shocking conclusion: you are either a 10 year old kid (who doesn't know the meaning of quality and is easily entertained) or you have absolutely no idea who spider-man is why he is

THANK GOD! One less whiny nerd I have to deal with... As for who I am, I'm 34, been reading Spider-Man comics since I was 4 years old, and have read EVERY ISSUE of Amazing Spider-Man #1 thru July of 2000 (life got in the way after that). I know exactly who Spider-Man is.... he is the property of Marvel Comics to do whatever the ______ they want to do with. Spider-Man in the past 40+ years has been everything from a wisecracking jokester to a whiny, masochistic loser. What "Ultimate Spider-Man" is, is A KIDS' CARTOON to sell HAPPY MEALS, ACTION FIGURES, and BIRTHDAY BALLOONS. What it is not, is something to cater to the wetdreams of pissy little whiny nerds who think they have some vested interest in Marvel's property. Sorry boy, but you ain't what YOU think you are. My kids like it, and they are the target audience for ANYTHING on Disney XD, then it is doing it's job.

Nothing would please me more than to see this show not making another season. Maybe then the creators will realize what have they done by canceling the best interpretation of spider-man on screen for this juvenile and immature ignorance.

I am ok with the humor.. but when it's not grounded and a part of the scene it becomes boring. Avatar has great humor, Spectacular had it, Fullmetal Alchemist.. even the Avengers have at a times more reasonable humor than these poping pictures that are supposed to be funny only because they work in anime. But ok.. it's not a big deal to me.
What is the real deal is the ever need of explanation who the characters are and their unimportant backgrounds.. that there is no coherent story to this series, it's only hack and smash and fake laughs.. I just saw the 4th episode and it's very very VERY BAD written episode.. This show is even more bad and dumb than 'The Batman'. Even it was way more creative in it's first season.

The animation is gorgeous.. I can't deny it. But it only proves that not only good animation and art style can make a good show. First comes the writing.
I can only imagine the what would have become of Spectacular if this animation team took it for season three with the previously masters of writing and adapting all those characters and villains on screen.

I just hope Marvel realizes the mistake they made and return Spectacular in the future.. Continue it in a way. It's not hard.. Justice League Unlimited did it. Say it has gone 2 to 3 years, a lot has changed and continue the damn good story. And not this Ultimate S***

Why? Harry has a better motive for being Venom than Eddie Brock ever had. Again, this is a totally unrelated universe, so they can do whatever they want.
If Sam Raimi can put Osborn in a power ranger suit, and if Spectacular can make Doc Ock a sniveling, whiny Jason Alexander wannabe, then Ultimate Spider-Man can make Harry Osborn Venom.

Hey, Doc Ock started out as sniffeling, but then turned into a freaking badass. It only took a near death experience. That said, I don't mind the idea of Harry becoming the host of Venom. He would indeed have better reasons for hating Spidey.

I just watched the episode a couple of hours ago. Once again, another okay episode. I thought it was an interesting take on how the symbiote was created. I know that in the Ultimate comics, Peter's dad created the suit, so I guess it's very similar here, except Doc Ock created it. One question comes to mind: if Doc Ock was able to extract Spider-Man's DNA and create this symbiote, wouldn't he also be able to determine Spider-Man's I.D. with that DNA sample he collected? Just a thought. I don't mean to nitpick. lol

No, it's a good point to make. Of course, the villains don't seem to be smart in the first place.

Oh, and my review of episode 4:

The 4th episode of "ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN", called "VENOM", literally features a monster which arose from a toilet which nobody wants to go near. I cannot think of a better metaphor for this show if I tried.

As the one-the-nose title suggests, this episode introduces Venom to the audience and the show's dynamic. Let the record show that this is the first actual Spider-Man villain to be showcased on this show, and we're almost a 6th of the way through the first season. Spider-Man begins the episode riding his Spider-Cycle through the subway system trying to flee a tentacled robot which has attacked him off screen. It apparently seeks to gain a blood sample from him, and destroy him if possible. Spidey manages to destroy the thing, but not before it accomplishes it's objective and he gets a tear in his costume in a very uncomfortable place. The robot was naturally sent by Dr. Octavius, who has been tasked by Norman Osborn with obtaining a sample of Spider-Man's blood to mass produce to create a race of super-soldiers. By extracting all of the aggressive qualities of Spidey's DNA, Otto creates a "venom", which is a symbiotic ooze monster which jumps from host to host, ultimately seeking Parker himself. Meanwhile, Harry Osborn feels threatened and jealous now that Peter has other "friends" at Midtown High - his four SHIELD teammates in their civilian forms - and vents by turning what was supposed to be a movie marathon at his father's penthouse into a school-roster busting party. Promptly, the "Venom" monster oozes from a toilet (and "its" first line of dialogue is "NNEEERRRDDDD!", as if it were Ogre from "REVENGE OF THE NERDS", but even THAT is generous) and starts jumping from host to host, leading to a climatic final battle on the penthouse roof.

To a degree reviews about this show are starting to bore me about as much as the show itself, because the same flaws remain in the narrative structure. The show seems to be produced and written by people who have a low regard for the attention span of their audience. No moment - whether terrible, stupid, serious or genuinely funny - is allowed to speak for itself without something louder and more over the top heaped upon it. We can't just get a moment where Spidey uses his science knowledge in the battle; he needs to stop in the middle and make a lame joke to the camera as if to remain "in character". We learn that despite the serial format, the characters don't seem to learn from week to week; Nova is still the same idiot he was in "DOOMED". Tom Kenny's Doc Ock has some mildly amusing lines, but it doesn't help that the Osborn he is working for is a fairly bland and generic mastermind villain - he makes me yearn for the Shredder from TV animation circa 1988. The gimmick of Venom possessing different characters becomes obvious and worn through very quickly - and while it is possible to make lame jokes about a monster that is also supposed to be seen as a serious threat, this show is too crude and incompetent to pull that off.

In fairness to the show's creators, the version of Venom as depicted is closer to his incarnation from the ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN comics crafted by Brian Bendis, so things such as being an alien were never supposed to be there by design. The problem is without building up an Eddie Brock character, all Venom becomes is what some critics have long berated him for being - a generic opposite number monster that doesn't know when it has worn out its welcome. In USM, the "symbiote" was an attempt to make living armor which could cure illnesses gone horribly wrong, but this version even makes that look inspired. The monster is simply a gimmick; even the metaphor of it representing Spider-Man's dark side (which the third film utilized) is done in a cheap and nearly non-existent way. It may be surprising that Venom is depicted as merely a gimmick who exists as the source of combat or jokes, but most of the characters in the cast exist for this purpose. I have long heard Venom as a character criticized because Eddie Brock wasn't originally a long term character and how he needs to be "fixed", but every time some new incarnation seeks to "fix" him merely makes Venom more crude and simplistic. The very notion of Spider-Man driving a hi tech motorcycle in high school and having SHIELD weaponry seems to strip away some of the appeal of the character.

Highlights? As usual, I like that Spidey's design has a hint of John Romita Sr. involved in the mask. Iron Fist has a few decent moments, and the show gets slightly less annoying when the other heroes are on screen as opposed to Peter and his high school cast. This is perhaps the first show where I agree with J.J. about how much of a reckless menace Spider-Man is.

This show is a show only in the technical sense. It seems to have no life, no ambition, no respect for its audience or the source material, and no self respect that even some of it's decent bits can stand alone without attempting to over and triple compensate for them. Everything is a gimmick atop a gag atop a pun atop a reference atop a fad. Every instant seems to have been approved by a dozen contrasting focus groups of howler monkeys and mental patients. It is a box wrapped with 27 different types of wrapping paper and scotch tape in awkward places which has nothing at the center for a reward. Yet none of this surprises or disgusts me anymore; I know what I am getting and my expectations are thus that at BEST, an episode may attain mediocrity. I genuinely feel sorry for all the talented people whose time is wasted producing this, much less those of us wasting our time watching it. There is no point to comparing it with "TSSM" - after this episode, comparing it with "SPIDER-MAN UNLIMITED" (the last Spidey show with a crappy version of Venom) is far easier. I made it through 12 episodes of that show; I don't think my nerd stamina can take as much of thus. If Marvel Animation seriously believes Jeph Loeb will be their Bruce Timm, then hope seems futile.

The A:EMH page on Facebook (the one petitioning to renew for a 3rd series) posted someone's blog entry on why this show supposedly sucks and they got some pretty good points.

While the show seems okay with me (great animation mostly) and I still find the jokes shallowly funny, i think a lot can be improved here and they should get on with making it more serious because the Heartbreak part of Peter's life is one of the most characteristic things about Spidey and if it gets any worse the younger kids watching the show may grow up not knowing the real Spidey at all.


Also, what is the deal with Luke Cage and Iron Fist being teenagers?? Nova being a jerk?? WHITE TIGER THE ONLY FEMALE?? I'm sick of kid's shows One-Girl Policy!

I thought this was the best episode so far.. Mainly because of the action. Having venom jump from hero to hero was neat, and the final fight with Spider-Man was cool. harry as venom, has potential..hopefully they will execute it well and it will pay off...and we could get Carnage since venom was a 'first prototype'

I thought of that, but reading it posted by someone else reminded me how Ock saw Peter's face and heard his name while taking his blood sample
Here he doesn't really have something to match it up, so not really a wrong thing, unless they made him a psychic
